Trade mag New Media Age (http://www.nma.co.uk/Home/Default.aspx) is reporting that Virgin Radio will be the first radio station to make content available on the PS3 (also the Wii). The service will include content from other Virgin stations – Xtreme, Classic Rock and Groove. Next to the radio content, it will be possible to buy downloads, CDs and tickets, and watch videos.

NMA goes on to say –

The station, which prides itself on technological firsts, said that the MP3-streaming capacity of its Virgin Radio Player has made the deal possible as it is one of only a handful of broadcasters using the technology. The consoles both have Flash capabilities, which allows them to handle the MP3 streams, whereas there are no embedded players for Windows Media or Real Audio files as yet.

James Cridland, Virgin Radio director of digital media, said the move was taken to strengthen Virgins availability in a changing media consumption market.

People are used to having control in their media consumption. A lot of that comes down to us offering the right content, at the right time in the right way. The content will always be the same whether youre accessing it through Sky, Virgin Media, online, on DAB or now through your games console, he said.

Discuss.

I know my friend Angela who owns a Wii will be happy.
