The list is for what I don’t have in Emerald. My Pokedex is maybe 20ish caught 60-70ish seen in Diamond right now, but mainly because some of the Japanese players are being nice and making GTS offers like Starly for Chimchar. This is probably the first time I’ve played through Pokemon with a party including all three starters. Though now my Staraptor has become an HM slave.

I haven’t even connected my system to the internet yet so I have no idea what my friend code is or anything, but as soon as there is a decent list of them I will start editing them in to the first post.

And as for Smokey’s question… I personally have been very close to playing the game nonstop since I got it, only taking short breaks… and I don’t know how Garamond got as far as he did. The fellow is a machine, apparently.

That’s mainly what I’m using with Infernape/Torterra/Empoleon. That along with Staraptor gave me enough to pretty easily go through every Gym so far with little trouble. That, and I’m really not catching Pokemon and more concerned with just seeing them so I can get the National Dex faster so I can just import what I already have.

Whatever you trade should be fine. Now that I have my False Swiping Sceptile that I use for catching Pokemon it’s really easy to get what I want.

I think I’ve gotten all the Pearl exclusives that are new Pokemon, though. It’s just Glameow/Evolved Form, Palkia, Mismagius, and Shieldon, I think.

Also: How long before any of you d00dz and d00detz are gonna be interested in competitive battling? It’ll be a long time before I have a real competitive team that’s all properly bred and EV trained, but I will be putting something together in the meantime to try playing people with (I accept no responsibility for losses because it will not be optimized for competitive strategies!)

Hey, also, question about GTS. If you have to have seen something to request it, how do people request things like Jirachis and Manaphys and whatnot? Are they all people who have already gotten them somehow and just want another one or something?

Anyway, I should be able to transfer Pokemon from my GBA carts to Diamond within the next couple days, so if you haven’t gotten one still, I should be able to send you a Suicune at that point (you can keep it if you don’t mind a clone, which I assume you don’t), but I don’t think I have any of the others you are looking for unfortunately.

Maybe once I get that scorpion pkmn (forget the name at the moment….toughest little sob to battle w/ though, b/c even at lvl 30, he’s getting the crap stomped out of him by lvl 20 wilds….grrr) to evolve into his dark/dragon evolved form….and getting a few other dragon pkmn caught, leveled and evolved.

I’ve gotta say that the Shinx evolution train is pretty powerful, though when played right. It’s one solid voltage source when battled with smartly. Charge + any good electric move does solid damage to any pokemon that doesn’t have electrical resistance…let alone woe to any gyrados (sp?) that it happens to battle.

I think my party may be too slow now. Hopefully that Jolly Chimchar I just bred helps things. Decided that I’m going to use Infernape and probably Jirachi and a Manaphy. I checked Jirachi has a neutral nature but his IVs look pretty good. Infernape, not so good IVs but not exactly HORRIBLE, so whatever. Manaphy, I have like 16 of them in my box, one should have a decent nature.

Also, I may be ready to actual real type battling within a week or so. Maybe. For my fun Shiny party, I just need to EV train my Deoxys and Eeveelution for a 3 way party with Shiny madness.

I was lucky enough to get a Shiny Beldum which became a Shiny Metagross when I evolved it.

My other Shinies I’ve traded for, and I’m looking for starters. Specifically, a Shiny Chimchar. I’ve got some Shiny Legendaries, but they’re either hacked, cloned, or at level 100 and impossible to EV train.

Manaphy’s IVs are decent, around 20ish for everything. Good enough.

And getting a good nature with your Shiny is even harder, not to mention IVs and whatnot. Most they’re just for show, unlike in the 2nd gen where they had to have a set IV set that was actually pretty decent and with no natures, you didn’t have to worry about that at all.

Like my Infernape went +24 in one battle for ATK or something after EV training for a few minutes with Pokerus/Macho Brace

how teh fuxorz did you do it. I was planning to do that for when I eventually catch mesprit since you can see that one without having to catch it, but I don’t get how you could get Uxie and Azelf in your dex without catching them (or KOing them which obviously I don’t want to do.)

And those are all really good sweepers. I’d pick two, and include Cresselia like you’re thinking about. They are all physical-only sweepers for the most part except Infernape, so I would pick Infernape to special sweep and one of the other three for physical. (And I’d pick Weavile but biased because it’s a favorite. But seriously, choice band + stab pursuit = broken.)

Though if you want I can send you over those if you need the dex data.

I’m leaning towards Weavile or Electrivire because I like those two the most, but I may just go with another Special Sweeper entirely over Infernape. I know Scizor may not be all that good, but that’s a Pokemon I’ve always wanted to use ever since G/S/C and I never did, so I may test him out as well. Just because I like Scizor.

Anyway, that answers my question! I’ll do the same thing for catching Mesprit when I get around to it. There is a whole fuckload of cloning I need to do in emerald actually. All my linoons for pickuping, a bunch of leftovers and choice bands and of course master balls, and lots of other pokes I want to migrate and also want to keep in emerald.

I sure wish there was a cloning trick in LG/FR, it would make things so much easier. ;_;

I’m pretty sure Dusk Balls are better than Timer Balls. I think Timer Balls max at at 4x, while Dusk Balls stay at 4x during the night/dark places. Pretty sure. Timer Balls take like 30+ turns before they even reach 4x. I’ve heard that Quick Balls or whatever work pretty well, but haven’t tested it myself.

The only thing I’m really cloning now is Rare Candies and the like, so I can just level up my Pokemon real fast after EV training them.

I honestly feel like the cloning process for rare candies actually takes longer than leveling up a team of pickup pokemon and getting them that way.

Unless there is some cloning process in D/P that I’m unaware of besides the Ditto trick.

Fight Elite 4 for fun after EV training with Lucky Egg and then candy it when it’s too high of a level.

I don’t know of any cloning trick in Diamond/Pearl, except that glitchy may not work GTS thingie where you have to corrupt your data.

I’ll catch a Pokemon in a Cherish Ball for fun soon.

In fact… how would you do twelve a day. I thought you could only upload six a day. Do you trade more pokemon over to another game pack for six more? Because that would be even another step. I think I’d go insane doing all that on a daily basis.

Cloning items are pretty simple, though. I usually clone like 40+ candies at a time, it takes like a minute or two to do it.

You don’t have to clone Pokemon to clone items.

And if anybody wants anything I can do it now. I’m not sure if I can do it later.

I have several fossils I can quickly turn into pokemon, for anyone who wants diamond’s fossil pokemon.

That’s not entirely true. A pokemon freshly hatched at level 1 and the same pokemon freshly caught at like level 98 will have the same stats at 100 if you EV train them both the same way. That is, if you ignore IVs and Natures….

And I can’t ignore natures, b/c that is a feature in the game, and worth considering when raising.

It has nothing to do with level-ups. It’s entirely about EVs. The only reason a trained Pokemon will have better stats at the same level than one caught in the wild is because every time you make it fight another Pokemon, it gains EV points in a particular stat from that battle. If you were to level a Pokemon up in the daycare, for example, and then get one in the wild at the same level, their stats would be the same except for whatever differences are inherently in their IVs.

IVs are a number from 0-31 in each stat a Pokemon has that they are born with and never change. A Pokemon with 31 IVs in attack will always be able to have a higher max attack than one with any less. This basically allows for variation within the same species, so that two Pokemon EV trained the same way still will not be exactly the same.

IVs and Natures are the only wild cards. Everything else you have control over.

Question, does it help for stats if you have more battles bet. lvl ups than less. I.E. does it help stats any if you have to battle 10 lower level pokemon before next level rather than battle just one higher level pokemon in order to level up. If yes, then this could really impact WHERE I train my team.

Yes, but it does not make a difference if you start training them at level 50 or level 1. Levels are irrelevant.

as for your question, I’m not sure I totally understand what you’re asking. But in terms of EV training, all that matters is the species of pokemon you fight, not the level. i.e. if you fight ten zubats you will get the same amount of speed EVs regardless of whether they are level 5 or level 50.

I recommend reading the FAQ I linked to on page 7. It will tell you everything you need to know about how Pokemon training works.

Like every Zubat you face gives you 1 Speed EV. IV/DV should be the same thing. Serebii uses IV, Smogon and others use DV. 255 max EV for each value, 510 max total. Each 4 means +1 for that stat. Each IV/DV value basically you’ll have x more stat at level 100 for what your IV/DV value is. Breeding with good IV/natured Ditto is the way to go. Had some really good ones I caught in Diamond/ported that really makes things a lot less time consuming.

I.E. does it help stats any if you have to battle 10 lower level pokemon before next level rather than battle just one higher level pokemon in order to level up. If yes, then this could really impact WHERE I train my team.
Well, if you do not want your pok???mon to level up as quickly but still attain EVs, then yes, battle those lower level pok???mon instead. Otherwise the levels of the pok???mon you battle against do not matter. Evolved po???mon in the wild will give more EVs, sometimes to more than one stat, but some evolved pokemon may give you EVs in areas you may not want.

Also, does anyone have a starmie? I want starmie…it would finally complete my team. Starmie is so awesome.

-Breed a pikachu/raichu with another pikachu/raichu holding a light ball. The resulting Pichu will have Volt Tackle. Evolve it into Pikachu by getting it to max happiness and leveling up, then evolve it into Raichu with a Thunderstone.

-Recieve a Pikachu with Surf and Volt Tackle from beating Pokemon Battle Revolution. Transfer it to your DS and evolve it into Raichu with a Thunderstone.

In theory I guess once you get a pikachu/raichu with Volt Tackle you can then use that as a male with a female pikachu/raichu and Volt Tackle might be passed on, without the need for a Light Ball, but I don’t know for sure. max spA electivire does more damage with tbolt than max Atk electivire does with thunderpunch. However, max attack electivire probably does more damage in general, because he learns a wealth of fantastic physical attacks that give him incredibly broad type coverage. and if you’re maxing his attack, you definitely want to give him thunderpunch over thunderbolt.

Though I’m undecided on what I want at this point. Probably anything that I bred for pretty decent IVs and natures and movesets and whatnot will be assembled into Team Ndi and then I’ll try to make my team from whatever else.

Crobat’s best bet are speed and attack EVs – try going after wingull (not pelipper), buizel/floatzel, zubat/golbat, ponyta, stunky, murkrow, pachirisu, and buneary (not lopbunny) for speed EVs, and shinx, gyarados, or kricketune for attack. I forgot what else gives attack EVs. Check some online pok???dex for more.

Actually, the reason you can’t breed it is just "because the game said so." There are other genderless Pokemon, like Metagross, that can breed with dittos.

Most legendaries are genderless but some, like Heatran, aren’t (and yet still can’t breed.)

But yeah, the bottom line is you can’t breed legendaries, including Mewtwo. The only way to get one with good IVs is to save before you catch it and then reset every time until you get extremely lucky. Personally I would never have the patience, even with a master ball.

I had bred(breeded?lol) like 18 Mudkips for a certain nature and only got one female.

The best ones I’ve found so far are:

Just use Macho Brace and Pokerus and that 4, 10 Irons before and like it doesn’t take too long.

The PokeRadar may help in some places since it seems like you chain more of the same Pokemon over and over. Night/day along with swarms can screw up EV training, though.

Have you tried Route 213? I’ve gotten tentacruel quite a few times there without too many wingulls/pelippers

For HP, it seems to be easiest to train at night on Route 210 (noctowl and hoothoot seem to be the most common there) or in the Eterna forest (wurmple). Cascoon/silcoon gives 2 def EVs.

Wurmples seem to be 30%ish, so it may just be better to HP train in the beginning of the game where I think it’s 50/50 for Starlies and Bidoofs, which would actually be real good for anybody who need HP and Speed.

I think daytime the forest gives like 30/30/20/20 with Wurmples/Budews/Cascoon or Silcoon/Bunearies. So like HP/SpA/Def/Spd

OK, I think I get what you are describing here, but you really can’t miss with aerial ace. It always hits, even if they’ve raised their evasion or lowered your accuracy. I really have no idea how this is possible.

I also noticed once when I was testing out an absol and it struck a gardevoir with Faint Attack, doing very little damage. I used the netbattle’s damage calculator and found that even with max HP and defense gardevoir still takes a good deal of damage from an adamant absol using faint attack (252 atk EVs). I noticed, however, that there was a button entitled "battle mod" and found that that gardevoir actually had over a thousand defense EVs to take so little damage from Faint Attack. It’s this kind of cheating that is probably responsible for the AI’s Rhydons never missing when they use Horn Drill on my pok???mon, unless I use Double Team 4x or more. (I wonder if the game hates me for abusing Swagger and Double Team in earlier days. o_O’ )

The pyschic guy (I don’t recall his name) probably gave me the most trouble – the attack ‘Pyschic’ can be a pain. My Empoleon, Luxray and Dialga even struggled against the champion – Milotic inparticular was quite hard to beat.

If you don’t care about them being legit, I would go find an actual pokemon message board with a trading center and ask. People will undoubtedly have cloned ones they are willing to send you.

As for trading… I’ll take either a Gorebyss or Huntail!

I never battled anyone using that strategy either, and I’m not quite sure if Foresight+Close Combat would work. WonderGuard only negates damaging moves like Close Combat and FlameThrower, but the pokemon itself is still vulnerable to moves such as Toxic or Will-o-Wisp and Weather conditions such as Sandstorm and Hail. I wouldn’t label it as cheating, I think it just forces the opponent to use non-damaging moves just like Taunt forces the opponent to use damaging moves only. I’m pretty sure Nintendo foresaw the abuse of this strategy, but neglected to act on it due to the fact that it isn’t unstoppable.

For the vitamins, I’m not sure but I think you can only add a maximum of 10 of same vitamin, plus the fact that you have to use it on a fresh pokemon, who has not yet went into a battle.

EVs or Effort points are ontained through battle like mentioned, and having a macho brace doubles the amount gained from battle. You may notice an increase in your pokemon’s stats after level up or after dumping them in a PC box. For every 4 EVs gained, the stat that gained these points will go up by one point, meaning if you defeat two staravias with a buizel, your buizel’s max speed stat will increase by one point. A pokemon can have up to 255 points (+63 to that stat), though you want to avoid going over 252 because you’ll waste three points by going to 255 (252 divides evenly by four and 255 doesn’t, so three points will not contribute). Any pokemon can have a maximum of 510 EV points altogether. For typhlosion, for example, it would be typical to give it 252 points into speed and 252 into SpAtk, with the remaining four into HP or something.

Vitamins each give 10 EVs to a stat as long as there aren’t already 100 EVs in a stat. If you give your Typhlosion 10 Carbos and 10 Calciums, it will have 25 addtitional points on speed and 25 on SpAtk. You can still give 10 of any vitamin to any stat even if there is already 9 EVs in that stat (if there is nine, then after, let’s say, 9 Carbos there will be 99 speed EVs, so then you can still give one more carbo – not that this actually matters or anything, just giving you the math so you understand better). You can give 10 vitamins to more than one stat to a maximum of 51 total vitamins (which equals 510 EVs), but I do not recommend this.

DragonWings mentions the easiest way of keeping track of EVs – write ’em down. Additionally, a power item (obtainable at battle tower) such as a power anklet will not only double EVs but add +4 EVs to a stat at level up. The power anklet, for example, gives +4 Speed EVs at level up. So again, you go and beat up four staravias with the power anklet on and your pokemon will get 20 EVs to its speed stat. (4 staravia x 2 Spd EV each x 2 + 4 from power anklet = 20 Spd EVs)
