[Pokemon D/P] Which Pokemon are you gonna start with?

Which Pokemon are you gonna start with when you’re gonna play Pokemon D/P?

Being a bit conservative and knowing it’s more all round I mostly went with a grass type.

But this time around I think I will choose Chimchar. I haven’t spoiled myself yet so I don’t know what they will look like when they evolve. Chimchar looks like he’s got some potential. Might become a big ape.

It doesn’t really matter, as I always drop my starter as soon as I can. This time around, I am going to make an all Bug Pok�mon team.

Chimchar, because its last evolution is supposed to be pretty good.

I usually start off with the water starter so Piplup probably. I always find it pretty useful teaching Surf to my water starter as well.

Piplup for sure. someone was kinda enough to show me all the evo’s of the starters and he’s the coolest. with the grass being second coolest.

I am in love with Piplup. I almost always start with the water type too.

I’m having a bunch of friends over (okay like 3 or 4 at this point but that’s still… a bunch?) and we’re going to make sure everyone gets all 3 starters to begin with.

I’ll probably "pick" Piplup as the actual starter for my file because he’ll be the one who doesn’t get the traded exp bonus; I don’t plan on using him because supposedly you can get Manaphy pretty early in the game and I have the ability to do that. But I’ll probably use all three starters anyways, at least for a while.

well aren’t all starter poke’mon uncatchable. I don’t remember being able to catch charmander/quilava.

You can get Mudkip from Pal Park in either version by putting in Ruby, Sapphire, or probably even Emerald version.
Same goes for any other uncatchable pokemon.
BTW, some pokemon you don’t even have to go to Pal Park to get: I think there are some that appear in the wild if you insert FR, LG, Ruby, or Sapphire. I do not know what effect Emerald will have.

Edit: You can pretty much get any pokemon from any GBA game as long as it’s in your pc, disregarding the five different versions.

Yes, man. Get a frickin’ DS.
Pal Park is some feature through which to obtain the pokemon you’ve caught in the GBA versions.
Check out Serebii.net’s pokedex, for example.

I’ll be starting with Turtwig, but I probably won’t be using it anymore halfway through the game.

Turtwig joined up with me after I was nice to it. It is pretty cool, I guess. But Pikachu kind of did beat it with that Iron Tail, and I like my Staravia and Aipom too. Dawn already has a Piplup and that Paul guy has a ChimChar so I had no choice, really.

I think piplup, the other ones are weird looking imo 🙁

I generally take the fire pokemon right off the bat, so I guess I’ll do the same with this game. I never even knew which three you would get to choose from until now. 🙁

i’m not sure. but. no nevermind. i was thinking of restarting emerald to get the grass dude cause i regret getting the water dude. he looks so gai! but i think i’m too far in the game now. so…nuts to that idea. haha.

yah. no. first generation is the coolest. simple as that.

ps. after fighting the elite four again a bunch of times cause i’m almost done lvling all my pokemon to 100, i realized karen says "favorites" not coolest. so you can switch that word if it’ll make you feel better.

i use a similar philosophy to karen’s from the elite four in silver/gold. (everything she says when you beat her) she basically states that poeple who choose pokemon based on strenghts weaknesese are total noobs and dumb! that we should fight and win with our favs. i totally agree. ^^

I really want to use Pachirisu Tact but it is pretty weak. I’m probably going with Luxray instead because he is cool enough. Maybe a Pikachu instead.

My point is that you wouldn’t even know what the "best" generation is, all you know is which one has the Pokemon you are the most attached to. My Pikachu has heart and soul. It has taken down numerous Pokemon. As long as your Pokemon doesn’t has a name beginning with Ele, I am confident in its ability.

if you wanna talk about the games themselves. i don’t know what to say to be honest. i’ve always enjoyed every new addition and feature they’ve added to all the new games all the time. from being able to set the time, day and night, choosing male and female, breeding, personalities, new moves, and so on and so forth. they’ve all been great additions and i welcomed them.

well anyway. on another topic. i finally finished lvling my main red team to 100. i wanted to see if i can max their stats with things like carbs and iron, but nothing had any effect. i guess that means i rased them awesomely.

i did this cool trick. you know how in viridian city, you can fight yourself, or the last person you did mistery gift with? well. what i did was a made a team of 6 lvl 100 chansyes in my gold version, and did a mistery gift with myself. so that i could fight those 6 lvl 100 chancey’s in viridian city. and since i traded over my red team to silver for the extra xp boost, i was actually getting a total of 8000+XP PER CHANCEY! lol. too bad i can only do that once a day.

also. too bad i was stupid enough to give them softboiled so it takes me ages to finish them off even after using toxic on them. -_- lol. i gotta do mistery gift again but this time with no softboiled in the gold version. 😀

I only have one GBA so it is like very hard for me to trade starters I had to do it over XD.

But my Lugia’s and Groudon’s IV values look pretty good.

Modest Rayquaza has 31 Speed IV. Everything else sucks. My Articuno or something was like 12/5 and then all 1’s. That was really bad.

I think I like Floatzel more, so I may end up going Turtwig or ChimChar now. But then again, I really don’t like Turtwig’s movepool but like him more because I have one in the show, so I’m torn right now. Dawn’s getting a Floatzel anyways, well at least the Buizel. I’m not sure if I want that. And that kid had a Shinx, and I hated that kid, so do I go with Luxray? Man, and then if I get Lucario that would be like I’m really trying to be that hero with a Lucario of me own that knows how to do all that weird stuff.

They should’ve just made a new Pikachu with 100 for all stats so I could easily make my party.

In each Pokecenter you can trade & fith other peoples pokemon en chat with other people via WiFi 😀 I’m currently trying to trade an army of Mudkips 😀

ps: you need at least 1 badge to trade your pokemon. Also, you can find a breeding center after around 5 hours playtime.

Well, the way you get your first Pokemon is kinda corny and your best friend becomes your new rival. The typical atmosphere still there. Graphics and sound made a great upgrade, DS worthy.

But the real excitement starts with the numerous on line capabilities. 😀

Next to 1 on 1 trading There’s a general market to trade Pokemon. You can search for a Pokemon in a list to see if there’s a user logged in who has one. Then there’s the on-line battles. 1vs1, 2vs2. etc. And the Pokemon club where you can meet people on-line in a sort of lounge to talk to or to trade.

It’s just amazingly fun. 😀 I have nothing to say really, just buy / download it 😀

There is a game (among a few others) that was released in Europe that was never released in the USA. It’s the English version of the Japanese game: OZ called "The Sword of Etheria". I was mad due to the fact that every online store that had it wouldn’t ship video games overseas! So I ended up downloading it instead.

Ok, so I’ve played around 6 hours now. So far I’ve seen 26 and caught 9 Pokemon out of the possible 90 from the Sinnoh Pokedex. So it might take a while to see all 90 and to unlock the palpark.

My party consists of:

Chimchar @ lvl 15 (Had to stop him from evolving twice)
Budew @ lvl 17
Luxio @ lvl 15
Psyduck @ lvl 15
Pachirisu @ lvl 10

So far I have 1 gymbadge and have yet to find a breeding center.

I traded with Japanese players who had like "Pachirisu for Turtwig" so I get like 2x experience with those.

And the Chimchar I traded for already had Blaze Kick and Flamethrower which are doing big damage at this point of the game. My Prinlup is doing nothing. He sucks right now.

The Piplup I traded for was named Ichiro in Japanese. Truly greatness.

I haven’t really done much with the game, because I want to transfer my pokemon from Emerald to Diamond. I haven’t noticed anything in the game as to how to do that. Anyone know how?

Well, you can import them to one file, trade them to a friend, and then trade them back at the start of your new game, but you have to get badges to control them if they are over level 10 since they’re traded.

i finally made the effort to learn a bit of my wireless router and set it up and everything. sadly, i found out the DS doesn’t support WPA which is like the best method. So I had to use WEP instead. I have an off button to my modem anyway and i always turn it off when the pc’s are off so no worries of any noobs leeching my precious net. and i use hardcore crazy passes too. like "donut". lol 😉

so i tested it, and i’m all set for when the time comes that i can trade with people world wide. i don’t know how soon that is yet. i’m barely going to try to get my first badge. but i hope it’s soon.

even though i have both strat guides, i’m pretty much avoiding them unless i really need it. cosulting the guide at every step is just annoying and i’ve ruined many games like that. (oh ff12, forgive me! :p)

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that Brawl is the only thing that is eventually going to tear me away from Diamond.

I’ve really only goofed around with the Wii. The only games we have so far are Wii Sports and Zelda. Wii Sports is fun in a "I can get a kick out of this for about five minutes" sort of way, and Zelda is… well, it takes itself too seriously for a Zelda game in my opinion, but it’s a moot point since I haven’t been able to get into a Zelda game since OOT (not because I don’t think they are good anymore, simply because I stopped wanting to play that type of game). I haven’t had a chance to try it with anything that makes really robust use of the controller yet, but I love the way it feels judging from Wii Sports. I think I am probably going to get Elebits. That looks like something that would be incredibly fun, and actually uses the Wii controller thoroughly and effectively.

I basically used Infernape/Torterra/Empoleon/Staraptor the whole game and that cricket as a HM Slave along with Geodude.

Nope. My decision is based on a balance of what I like, what is effective, and what is available.

Though honestly, almost everything I’ve really needed has been accomplished by Staraptor, Luxray, and Torterra (and their lesser forms.) I haven’t even bothered leveling Kadabra up to sweep every single CPU opponent like it always can. This actually feels easier quite a bit easier than last gen. This is fine with me though since I only have Kadabra around for utility and will replace it as soon as I find something cooler that can do its job decently (or get around to turning Haunter into Gengar. Then I’ll replace it with something that does a different job.)

yesterday night, i decided to give the gts thing a go. and i really wanted a turtwig. but the only people trading them wanted something crazy in return. like a lvl 100 suicine or a manaphy. O_o

so i thought i’d try out offering one instead. and i put my recently caught lvl 10 psyduck in there in exchange for the turtwig. ( ;_; i miss him already)

today, i decided to check if anyone was nice/crazy enough to accept such a trade. and lo and behold! they were! hahaha. they gave me a lvl 1 turtwig. (yay) someone made it from an egg. (i thoought egg’s were lvl 5. this is cool)

but anyway. ther’es one thing that bugs me. the guy who traded me was from japan and so the turtwig’s name is japanese. ;_; i hope they made it so that we can change traded pokemon’s names too. cause i know back then in the old versions you could never do that. this would suck! >.<

If you can read the Katana you should pretty easily be able to tell if they named it something differect. Like my Empoleon is named Ichiro.

I know my Arceus is a 100% hack because it hasn’t even been released in Japan yet, I believe, and wasn’t available through the glitchy Elite 4 Surf thingie like the others were. I have two spare Manaphies, so I can probably get what I need. And I can always trade Latias for Latios, I’m guessing. If anybody here has them and would just let me dex the data, I’d greatly appreciate that. By dex, I mean you trade and then I trade back.

Ash, how deep into the game is pal park? I am reasonably certain that I have Entei and Suicune as I would have gotten them on colosseum. I’d be willing to dex trade them if you’d be willing to trade a manaphy for some random pok�mon as something cool in return.

And, unfortunately, I never got around to Ho-oh as I didn’t really play any deeper into the game once I could trade my pokemon in for easy leveling.

It should work quite well. Probably not as well as Blissey, but well.

I really hate Blissey too, and for a long time I refused to use it, but when I decided to make a truly competitve tournament-ready team for ADV, I realized there was simply no way to get around it. I really hate Game Freak for inventing it, and I’d have absolutely no problem with banning its fat egg-shaped butt to ubers.

Most Togekiss flinchhaxing sets are giving it thunder wave, air slash, another attack (I’d use Aura sphere but grass knot is also popular) and either a recovery move or scheme. Thunder wave is a must though, it makes it almost impossible for them to move and makes up for Togekiss’s lack of speed.

I’m planning to train two Togekisses, one for flinchhaxing and one for wishpassing. For a long time I wanted to combine the two, but you really sacrifice the effectiveness of both by doing that, so I figured I will craft a team around each style. I love Togekiss so much most of the teams I think up are centered entirely around it.

I would like Togekiss more but Misty had a Togepi and it ruined her character and all, so I have to hate it a little.

Because like it was evil.

i don’t understand most of it. whatever happend to simple moves like slash? and sleep powder? i really need to learn all the new moves invented in the game. i’m still stuck in 1999. lol

there isn’t that much difference between newer moves and "simple" moves like slash. air slash is a special flying attack with a chance to flinch, aura sphere is a special fighting attack that never misses, and grass knot is a special grass type move that does more damage to heavier opponents.

You’ll probably have a tougher time getting used to all the Pokemon’s abilities, since those didn’t exist in the old games. The thing that makes Togekiss such an obnoxious attacker is its ability, serene grace, which doubles the chance for a move’s extra effect to occur. So in the case of air slash, there’s a 60% chance to flinch the opponent rather than 30%. Combine that with paralysis from thunderwave, and in order to actually do anything, they have to A) not get flinched by air slash and B) not get stuck with paralysis. So the strategy is paralyze everything in sight and beat the shit out of them with air slash, and pray they don’t have Electivire.

I got the game last Saturday, and started out with Piplup without hesitation.

And I never evolved it. Nicknamed PIMP IT UP, my Level 73 Piplup has been loyal since day one. It has only fainted once, and that was against Purugly (back when I was around level 20). I’m glad that PIMP IT UP is a flying/water, because Drill Peck comes in handy against Grass, Ghost, and Bug types.

Empoleon, Alakazam, Infernape, and Torterra are all rougly lvl 54 now. I just caught Diagla. I decided to waste all my crappy balls on it because I’m not going to use them anyway. I seriously came a split second away from catching it with a regular Poke Ball. It shook three times and I about lost it when it was caught…then it escaped.

you don’t have to hack because you have to go talk to professor oak to get it, it’s after you beat the elite 4

Available where? I don’t think the event has been out in the US yet that let’s you receive Oak’s Letter in game unless you use some hacking device to get it. You can still reach Route 224 or whatever, but the long path leading to Shaymin won’t be available until you get the letter via event/hack.

The Darkrai event item won’t be released for a while since they’re giving it away in a Cherish Ball.
