Thinking about buying FFIII?

But, I’m not quite sure if I should. Normally, I wouldn’t listen to critics, and go by my own instincts, but I don’t have a gut-feeling concerning this game. I’m not about to by a game I’m not going to touch anyway, so I need some advice, and where else to get it from than from a Final Fantasy forum?

Some advice/notes would be nice. A little objectivity would be nice, too.

I once asked myself the same thing. I wasn’t sure if I should get it or not. But I decided not to buy it, because I’ve had some problems with FFIV already (graphics, controlling etc.)

But this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get it. It’s all up to you of course…

Its fairly meh. The job system is pretty good but I think FFV had the better one.

Graphics and sound are fine as well. Just don’t expect an epic plot but then again it is only III. I’d recommend renting at least, just to see if you can get into it. I’m half way through but havent touched it since I got FFVI….

Lol, same as me…except, I tried to play it through after I got FFVI. But I seriously don’t feel like playing anymore, due to the slowness of the game, and the monotonous monster and boss songs…FFIII DS is the only FF game I stopped playing before I beat it.

Seriously, FFVI Advance is much more entertaining, at least in my opinion. But you can try it out…if slow-moving, high-graphic games with a simple job system and no real character development is your thing, then try it out.

Also, there are NO save-points in the entire game…which might make it even harder to keep playing.

FFVI isn’t out here yet, so I think I’ll hold out on buying FFIII for the moment. I like a good challenge, but from you guys description, FFIII sounds like a chore, and a game should never be a chore to complete.

Me gots to think some more. :/

The DS remake by far the best of the classic Final Fantasy games (from a gameplay prospective anyway). Unlike FFV, almost every job is useful and as long as you have someone to heal, you can pretty much use whichever jobs you like for the final dungeons without significant handicaps. Despite the almost non-existent character development for the protagonists, the NPCs are characterized successfully and the plot can be fairly interesting at points (especially for a game first released in 1990 or something). It’s also one of the few FF games released in recent years that can actually be challenging. Basically, if you already have a DS I don’t see any reason not to pick it up.
