Last year the PSP homrbrew community saw the release of Triple Triad, a fan game based on the card game in FFVIII. While the game did look the part it didn’t do anything amazing and seemed to drop off the radar for quite somtime.

Now it’s back and it has the following features…

* Complete graphic Restyle; Optimized code, 60 fps
* 3 decks besides the classic (FFVIII) , over 330 cards + bonus
* For the first time MMO Infrastructure; Massive Multiplayer Online
* A virtual world based on FFVIII world; Shop, buy and sell cards
* Private messages; Live chat during the game; Friends list, black list
* Possibility to view users’ status, track their movements
* New FFVII and FFX decks (coming soon FFIX deck)
* Added help during online game and rules info

Under development for a year now this new version will make waves this Monday when it’s released into the homebrew community. But, don’t take my word for it, check out the trailer.

It’s not official and it will be free to download. That is, if your PSP is homebrew enabled.

Also, I’m not quite sure, the trailer doesn’t show any in that regard other than a world map.

This is fantastic.

Professional homebrew like this is better than 99% of the PSP’s UMD game library.

Oh, btw Denny – if you haven’t played it yet, try Puzzle Quest. It’s freaking awesome.

I think that is friggin awesome. Maybe I should go ahead and pay up that 95$ to get my screen fixed and get my PSP home brewed.

i forgot which i liked better. i think i liked the card game in ff9 better than this one. but it’s cool that i know both are avaiable to play. and i always wished i could go up against other peeps but they own me. 🙁

it’s cool if its on psp and online play. it’s a really good game.

That’s pretty darn awesome, but am I the only one who thought the trailer was making fun of it?

Hopefully the makers of Triple Triad got permission from Square-Enix, otherwise its copyright infringement. You know there is going to be at least one punk thats going to see this and report it to Square-Enix. And you know Sony is going to keep throwing out those updates to fix those problems (as well as add some eye catching feature) and game developers will end up requiring higher firmware versions when new games come out. Oh the endless torment of choosing between good games or good homebrew apps.
