bored with umd and need some emulated fun^^

I need some help, over the time i have been playing the psp’s limited gaming selection, i have become overwhelmed with boredum and I belive you all psp users have been there before… Now, I have come up with an idea but i think some one has already come up with it. Is there emulations and roms that u can put on your psp that work? If so, can u send me the link? Is it free? Please help thank you for your time and effort.

For starters, Jin, what firmware do you have?

If you have 3.03 or below, the options you have open to you are limitless – you can play everything from NES to PlayStation 1 games (and even PSP ISOs, if you are so inclined). If you have 3.10 or above, you’re out of luck.

If you have the right type of firmware there is plenty of emulators that will keep you entertained. Everything from the Snes and Megadrive right down to the Wonderswan and PcEngine. And on top of that there are bucket loads of homebrew games and applications.

For me the PSP is the perfect hand held system mainly due to it’s ability to run a host host of emulators. And with the PSone emulator being the icing on the cake all that’s left is a cherry in the shape of a full speed N64 emu.

So yeah, i’ll be glad to help if you have the right firmware.

If you have higher than 1.01, than you could download a downgrader. I’ve got it, and I play supermarrio on my PSP all the time.

i got a 3.11 firmware would that work? were would i get a downgrader if it is too high? and where could i get some roms for the psp?

Sorry Jin, but you’re out of luck for the time being – ROMs and other emulators only run on the 1.50 or custom firmware. There are downgraders available for every current firmware up to 3.03; but 3.11 is the very latest firmware, and there is no downgrader available yet.

I highly suggest that you don’t upgrade your firmware through Sony ever again, and keep your eye on the PSP homebrew scene (here (pspupdates.qj.net) is a good place) until you hear about a 3.11 Downgrader.

so if i downgrade it, would it be possible to put any rom on it with out the use of an emulator? or do i need to get that too?

If you COULD downgrade from 3.10, your best best would be the following route:

Downgrade to Firmware 1.50
Upgrade to Custom Firmware 3.10 OE-A (or whatever the latest OE release is).

With just the custom firmware, you can run UMD ISOs and PlayStation 1 PBP files. You can also run homebrew – which is where you get emulators for the various systems you want. The best ones for the 16bit systems are SNES9xTYL for the Super Nintendo and DGen for the Sega Genesis.

Still, you will be waiting for a little while before you can downgrade. It’s also a slightly risky procedure, that has a small chance of bricking your psp (stopping it from working entirely).

Personally, I think the risk was more than worth it – but I studied the process long and hard, and understood it back to front before attempting it.

OE? PBP? what is this? i am totaly new to this psp i bought it like 3 days ago and i hardly get the whole proceedure.

OE is simply a term used by a coder for his custom firmware he created. PBP is the format that Psone games must be in order to run on the PSP.

But forget about all that for now. Just listen Raidenex and don’t upgrade your PSP firmware again.

Also Raidenex, did you get the Psone emu running on your PSP?. I believe you said previously that you couldn’t upgrade to the custom firmware, but maybe i’m wrong.

Enjoying Vagrant Story and Crash Bandicoot 3 all over again, and also trying out some PSP games on ISO i’ve been wanting to try but didn’t want to buy and find that they suck (conclusion: Pirates: worse than the PC version, so suck, but World Series of Poker: surprisingly addictive. Worms: Open Warfare = suck, because like the X360 HD version it has limited weapons 🙁 )

EDIT: Jin, you’ve had the PSP for 3 days and you’re bored? Come on, I know that there is a limited amount of games out there, but ‘limited’ still equals months of fun. If you haven’t got them already, I highly suggest you pick up Lumines, Wipeout Pure and Metal Gear AC!D; they are all launch titles, so you can get them on the cheap, and they are worth months of fun together. Best of all, you don’t need to update your firmware to play them.

well i got like 3 games and i’ve already beaten them… rengoku (the 1st one)
smack down vs raw 2006 and soccom fire team bravo1 and as for computer games have you tried diablo 1 or 2, fallen, darktanien, myst, no… wait, the original myst sucked out loud. they may not be much but diablo 2 can get you playing for months trin’ to get full ik (imortal king a set of armor that gives you a shit load of abilities but it was mainly meant for a palidan and barbarian) and beat the game in hardcore mode. (if u die once you stay dead and you have to start over) but yeah i’ll try metal gear acid and tekken dark ressurection. thank you for your hospitality on this topic, i really needed the help.

Just a Question. Can ps1 emulators on the psp run ISOs or they have to be converted to PBPs to run?

Last time i heard you have to convert to PBP’s, use a popstation gui.
