ive seen my fair share of anime films, and in my opinion my fave was advent children, but thats only because i am a hardcore FF fan. I could see summin different like naruto winnig instead, or that sort of anime. It was good, but not goood enough to win, is what i think other people wud say :/

I’m amazed that no one brought up Akira; that classic is usually the one that introduces most people to anime. Personally, I think it would have been a little biased if something like Naruto won.

I’m pleased that AC won, but I think either Ghost in the Shell or Steam Boy would have been a better fit.

As far as I’m concerned, it was a CGI Movie that no reputable reviewer has bothered to comment on.

BTW, read the fanboy comments on the link. You’ll find things such as, "yay, great film for all final fantasy fans, specially those who have played FF7" and "FF is Winner" being drowned out by an overwhelming number of posts commenting on how weak the movie is.

I watch Sephiroth vs Cloud at the end and it doesnt seem to get boring for me lol, FFVII is Best in series and tats a FACT.

Even though I liked AC (fangirlism and such, sue me), I was surprised to find it on the ‘best selling anime’ list in Newtype. It is not an anime. I don’t get why people classify every animation/ CG from Japan as anime.

And as much as I liked the movie (mostly battles though- the plot, well…), this is truly something to laugh about:

There is a plot, but it’s a tiny bit convoluted; first you have the geostigma, then there’s Kadaj and his gang trying to find Jenova among other things.

That’s one interesting point someone made, since when is CGI considered anime? Perhaps if there was an aforementioned category, the award would make a little sense, but it makes me wonder what was considered for this category out of curiousity.

But it was an anime. When you think about it, though the tools be different there are actual artists here who’ve constructed images. In truth they’ve animated them using a computer in the stead of a paint brush. It shouldn’t have won though, or should it have?

I was limiting it to recently released anime, but yeah.

it was not a stellar film for sure. and i seriously don’t think it counts as anime. even live action sailor moon is more anime’d. i say. It was a disapponting ending for the game that forgot an ending.

If FLCL didn’t take short series, I don’t know what would and it covers the comedy part as well. Everything that won deserved to, except the FF7:AC shit is fucking terrible, anime my ass.

I tried to see that and I think advent had better animation.

Even though I hated both movies, Spirits Within had better animation for many reasons. One of these being that the character models in SW didn’t have outright linear motion as the models in Advent Children.

I see lots of anime/manga elements in Advent Children. I think Nomura even mentioned that the fight scenes sort of had that kind of style… like the Tifa VS Loz one.
