Hooray, game prices are still horrendously high.

…still, isn’t the PS3 region free? Or did they change that?

EDIT: HDMI or Component cables aren’t included? What a rip! At least my PS2 Monster Component Cable will be compatible, but I was hoping for some HDMI action 🙁

I was hoping that it would cost less now that they’ve stripped out part of it (http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2007/02/23/european_ps3_has_less_functionality_than_us_japan/).

Not that I actually plan on buying one anyway.

That bit of news reporting is actually kinda annoying me, because it’s putting a negative spin on the situation. Sony announced from the beginning that as soon as they could emulate the PS2 on the PS3 hardware, they would take the Emotion Engine and PS2 graphics chip out of the PS3. Granted, a price drop would be nice, but Sony is still taking a loss on the system as is (albeit less of a one in Australia than in the US or Japan).

One of the drawbacks of the US consoles was that playing a PS2 game on the PS3 is basically like playing it on a PS2, just with a shiny new box, which made things like upscaling impossible. The PS3 now works the same way with backwards compatibility as the Xbox 360 does, so hopefully we’ll see publishers take care with the emulation of their titles and upscale them to higher resolutions like Bungie did with Halo and Halo 2.

I want progressive scan Final Fantasy XII, dammit. 480p would be awesome. 720p would be freaking divine.

This is annoying. Software emulation is not the same at all. And then people complain about Microsoft. At least in Microsoft they do what they say they will do. Sony has no trust at all!

Yeah, because the software emulation done in homebrew applications to play older games on the PSP/DS never produces perfect or better than original quality gaming in those old games.
