Help with garment grids?

Alright, this is easily my least favorite final fantasy, however i am trying to beat it so that i can say i’ve beaten them all, on that note. I am using a codebreaker to quickly get through this; and used the code for all the garment grids, my question is on grids such as the end, or maggedo.. how do you use their special ability (exp ultima or finale.)

On the garment grid, there are coloured orbs part way through a path between two dresspheres. For Finale and Ultima, you have to pass through all four different coloured orbs.

Yeah. In other words, you need to change into various dresspheres to "pass through" the gates as such. It should sort of "light up."
