I have just checked the compatibility of the Final Fantasy games on the PS3 from the official site (http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus) of Sony.

Final Fantasy Anthology

Description: On the Final Fantasy V Disc (Disc 1), when the users character progresses to the first save point, and selects SAVE from the Game Menu, a black transition screen appears and the title hangs.

Final Fantasy Chronicles

Description: Throughout gameplay of the Final Fantasy IV Disc, various graphics randomly drop out and/or flicker.

Final Fantasy IX

Description: Throughout gameplay and FMA’s, when the users character walks up or down on screen and the camera pans up or down to follow the movement, four transparent horizontal lines appear across the screen.

Final Fantasy Origins

Description: Throughout gameplay of Final Fantasy II, when the user encounters a random battle, and the battle transition screen appears, the brightness level is adjusted.

Final Fantasy VII

Description: On Disc 1, when the first battle begins at the Mako Reactor, a flashing black square appears around the users character’s pointer.

Final Fantasy VIII

Description: Throughout gameplay, when the user’s party encounters a random enemy in the "world map", and the pre-battle transition screen appears, approximately 40 – 60% of the pre-battle transition screen appears black, and the remaining portion of the screen appears corrupted.

Final Fantasy Tactics, X, X-2,XI XII and Dirge of Cerberus have no problems.

Btw i just posted it to let people know. They may fix them, but i dont see them taking care of the ps1 games much.

Man, that sucks. Gotta love when a system upgrade, turns into a downgrade. 🙁

Seems like Sony has acheived a level of epic idiocy never before attained.

Heh. I guess I have something to be thankful for that I’m in no hurry to get a PS3 at the prices they currently run for.

Sounds like I made a wise choice when I decided to buy a PS2 instead of jumping straight in for a PS3.

well in the Uk i went 2 pre order my ps3 and it would of cost me 430! and deposit 100 of that! for when it comes out in March and only 4/5 games come out on the same day anyway! so there was no point me getting it

Well, yeah. Unless you really want one of those games and/or you’re also curious about the other enhancements and Blu-Ray capability.

Personally, I’d wait until someone puts out a modchip for the PS3 and for the price to drop to a reasonable level. And oh, for the firmware to become stable enough.

Final Fantasy VII

Description: On Disc 1, when the first battle begins at the Mako Reactor, a flashing black square appears around the users character’s pointer.

I just tried it. Nothing like that happened. But then again, I’m on firmware 1.51.
