At Disc 4: Need some help.

So I was feeling nostalgic and I went ahead and started FFIX up again. Well, I got to Disc 4 in 29 hours(feels short to me, heh), and need to upgrade all my characters. Where is the best spot to grind for exp/ap, farm for gil, and best shop to purchase items? Thanks for any and all helpful replies.

Daguerro, Black Mage Village for buying stuff.
Vile Island, Popos Heights for levelling up.

Memoria itself is pretty good for EXP/AP.

Gil? Just use the spoils of battle or the cheap synth-a-bunch-of-Cotton Robes trick.

Well, Black Mage Village doesn’t have much to buy, just to synth, and I’m low on items and funds to actually just synth the good stuff. And I can’t find Daguerro at all. Maybe I’m retarded, but it’s not on the map. Thanks for the help. I’ve been getting good exp/ap outside Black Mage Village and Memoria. Anyways, directions to Daguerro would be great(oh my god, watch me find it as soon as I turn it on…).

Daguerro is in the South-West part of the world map. I believe its on an island.

Also, Memoria or if your characters are strong enough(which I doubt) Vile Island. Ipsens Castle gives out decent exp as well.

Ack, sorry, I think I WAS thinking of synthing rather than buying. ^^ Actually, now that you mention it, I think most of the good stuff on disc 4 is the stuff you synth.

Daguerreo is towards the southwest of the world map, in that island chain. If you’ve been around Chocobo’s Lagoon, you might have seen a big island a bit to the north with a few waterfalls and a mountain with a cave on it. Inside the cave thingie is Dageurreo.

Well, I found Daguerro and the shop there was just what I needed. Thanks. Speaking of Freya, when I first beat this game some 5 years ago, I don’t remember her being weak. No matter if she is in the front row or not, if she has the highest attack or not, she always lags behind everyone else and does 1k dmg while everyone can hit for 3-4k. What gives?

At a guess, it could be a either you’ve neglected her or she’s got some crap equipment. Possibly both… But as mentioned earlier, go to Popos Heights if you want her to be good and kill LOTS and LOTS of grand dragons and teach her Dragons Crest if you haven’t already. She was my first character to do 9999 damage because I spent a good 10-20 hours training everyone to quite a high level (I think it was 60+) from lvl 20 or 30, and so a lot of dragons were killed 😀

Why kill a lot of dragons? don’t remember anything like that. Does it increase her strength? Anyways, she’s no longer doing bad damage, I had to change a few pieces of gear. Where is Popos Heights? I’m at the two last fights of the game right now.

Killing a lot of grand dragons increases the amount of damage that her "Dragon’s Crest" ability does. It doesn’t take long for it to reach quad-9 damage.

Popos Heights is the area just above Gizamaluke’s Grotto. You can climb up there early on disc 1, when you reach the room with the two honeymooning moogles, and they tell you "it’s dangerous outside" when you try to climb out using the vine.

I like my Yan medium-well, actually. Just a little bit of pink, but not bloody and Snorting all over the place.

And I wouldn’t dare ask Bahamut to serve them any way other than what he darn well pleased. 😉
