Spells … Why Can’t I find them

Hi All

I’ve searched the forums, and bought the strat guide (mostly for the License board poster).

I need advice on why I can’t find any of the higher end Black Magic. The only Major towns available to me a Rabanastre, Nalbina, Bhujerba, and Mount Burrrr…. (I don’t include the Viera Village because I cannot buy anything there).

I have purchaced every spell, Technik, and Gambit from all shops.

My Characters are all level 25/26.

I am attempting to defeat Mateus, and I finally broke down on the 3rd try, and read the strategy guide assuming I was missing somesubltey, and loe and behold it says to just beat hime up. Also said to use Thundaga on the minions.

The highest level black magic I have been able to find is "Aero".

Can someone please help me in discovering what I need to do to unlock the higher end black magics.

i had thandara the time i beat Mateus and the other 3, stillno watera and aorara, even the monsters against me at the moment use the 2nd spells level, i just got Darkara.

i think i miss print in the guide, i am way ahead of you.

i bought thundara and the others from Rabanastar….or ….not sure, but if a new item/spell/tech apeared in one shop, it well apear in the rest ones to.

rest assure you didnt miss a thing, probably you didnt checked out rabanaster before entering in Mateus place ;-D

I have currently finished the temple up to the point of the Mateus fight. I have killed the "magnetic boss", and turned the 3 statues.

I then went outside to the Crystal, and Saved. I then teleported to each of the three cities, and checked the magic shop in each one. none of them have any of the spells you descibe 🙁

Anything I may have missed like a side quest that unlocks the spells availability?

well….it was before yesterday i think i beated mateus and got her,

mybe my memory is fooling me, but you well get them in time, there is no sidequest or something you need to do to get the level 2 magics thats for sure, as for the level 3, wait for me to post here if i got them , but i doubt it, i think we can get them to as we advance in the stury, but if i am not mistaken you got CURA right, thats i am pretty sure you should have,

because the time i got thundara i got Curaga to.

basically , it seems i get level 2 after when you return to Mountin-ohsre or something.[get back from where you camed to get the sword].

I was mainly asking because the Strat guid specificly states to use Thundaga, but I don’t have Thundaga/thundara at all.

I will justkeep trying Mateus … maybe I need to level up some more.

the guide is deffenatly mistaken [miss prent], after you progress and reach certain point in the game , the shop is upgraded.

i got a question for you regarding espers, check in the uide whether they level up independantly or not [they grow as the character who hold them grow stronger].

The Espers level up w/ the character their attached to so if u have Belias on Vaan and Vaan is level 24 then Belias will be level 24 too. They have their own stat increases as they level up too but no extra techniques or powers….u can use their final attacks from the get go as long as u know how their gambits work.

Blak mage level 5 has :thundaga+firaga+blizaga
after that Flare level 7, there is "SHOCK" level 6, the last Magic level 8 "SCATHE".

i got AEROGA, you get it in ARCHADIA, then it well be available anywhere where there is a magic shop or who sell them.

Any idea what part of the guide I would find that in? Is it a side quest, or partof the main storyline?

it should be a sidequest, the key needed in ‘Barheim passage’

you might find more in MARK 5 (BLOODWING) the monster quest.

Oh, and yes the next tier of Magics open up after the Mateus fight. I went out and bought 6 Nishijin Belts. With immunity to sleep Mateus was a piece of cake.

I got Firaga+Blizaga+Thundaga, there availabe after visiting Balfonhiem port [the place after Archadia].

Okay the Barheim Key[/b is obtained from the "Patient in the Desert" quest.

[b]Part 1
Complete the "Flowering Cactoiod" Hunt for Dantro in Dalmasca Eastersand.

Part2
Talk with Dantro again to get a quest to take aflower to his wife. She will give you a bundle of needles. Exit the villiage, and them re-enter and speak with her again.

She then asks you to collect Semclam Shells from the riverside.
2 Are on the shore next in the villiage of Southbank. Three more are in the Nebra area. Collect all 5 for the best reward

Talkto her, and she will send you to Dantro for something. Bring it back.

Now go collect 3 drops of Valeblossom Dew from the trees in Broken Sands (there are 3 trees)

Now you need the "Great Serpentskin" from the "Nhidog" hunt.

Finish the quest, and then return later for the Key.
