and cid is in all the games
Apart from certain re-occurring elements (monsters, spell and equipment names, themes, elemental crystals, magicite, Mist energy, airships etc), each FF game is independent and has no real releation to it’s previous title: with some exceptions. The most obvious exception is FFXII, which takes place in Ivalice, the world (or rather, continent), that was earlier featured in FF Tactics and FF Tactics Advance.
There is also a loose tie between FFV and VIII though, in the form of Gilgamesh. At the end of FFV, Gilgamesh is cast into the N-Zone by X-Death, where he remains trapped for a inderterminable amount of time, until in FFVIII, when Seifer kills Odin, when Odin’s sword Zantesuken flies up into the sky, it inadvently breaches the dimensional barrier into the N-Zone, freeing Gilgamesh from his prision. Now free, and obviously grumpy, Gil takes his anger out on the nearest person he can see, who just happens to be Seifer. This is what he meant by ‘the dimensional interval’.
The other appearences of Gilgamesh in other FF games are not the same person, but just refrences to the FFV version (such as in FFIX and XI – I’m not sure if his appearence in FFXII is the same guy from FFV though – his music is the same).
As for other direct links between FF games, there are rumours that the world of FFVII is actually FFX/X-2’s planet of Spira in the far, far future, due to a couple of hidden references to FFVII’s Lifestream in FFX-2, but these are just references and are not meant to link the two worlds (which are compeltely different) together.
ahem, yes.
But I digress..
FFVI really made the little guys popular though – in fact, the moogle practically became a company mascot for Square, but that changed when the chocobo assumed first place after FFVII.

What about X’s version? Where you bribe him for attacks.

And what the character cast in VII and X:

adds to that:

which I don’t understand what the link could be about in reference to the Lifestream…Farplane?

And Prak was saying something somewhere about the Iifa Tree when correcting someone on it’s pronunciation/spelling: Lifa, but didn’t finish because he didn’t want to cause confusion…?

And the FFIII(Japanese)/FFIV(American) commercial(s) where a corporate version is interviewing monsters in a dark room where there’s only a wooden desk and chair it sits in and a trap door.
At the end of FFX-2, after the scene in the Farplane Depths involving Paine’s past and Paine’s Sphere, if you talk to Shinra on the Celsius, he mentions that he’s found evidence of a planet energy in the realm of the farplane, one that could be used to power cities day and night. Shinra then laments that it would take generations to refine the process and both he and Yuna lament that they won’t be around to see it. This presents a similar correlation in the fact that A) Shinra is the name of the malevolent electric company in FF7 and B) the planet energy he speaks of is similar to the Lifestream, and the city as Midgar. (sent by Dalton of Zeal) Here is the full text of the speech:
SHINRA: "Aha…"
YUNA: "What are you looking at?"
SHINRA: "Farplane data. The more I study it, the more fascinating it gets. There’s limitless energy swirling around in there."
YUNA: "Limitless energy?"
SHINRA: "The life force that flows through our planet…I think. With a little work, we could probably extract the energy in a useable form."
BROTHER: "Sweet!"
SHINRA: "Of course, that’d take generations."
BROTHER: "That’s no fun!"
BUDDY: "Well, still, it is something worth shooting for."
YUNA: "Think how much Spira would change if we ever got it to work! Maybe one day we could build a city full of light, one that never sleeps!"
SHINRA: "No doubt about it."
YUNA: "Just imagine! But I’ll never get to see it…will I…"
(Shinra shakes his head, meaning "no")
BROTHER: "Shinra! Don’t make Yuna sad!"
SHINRA: "Right. My bad."
Another allusion to lifestream can be found in the Rin’s Machina Mystery sidequest. There are several different culprits in this scenario, depending on what evidence you see. If Yuna pins the haywire machines on Rin, they will discuss how Rin tried to cover up the event so people would not be afraid of machina. The final lines of this scene are as such:
RIN: If word got out that machina pose a danger, people would fear them and stop using them.
PAINE: So Yevon’s not alone in sweeping things under the rug.
RIN: I firmly believe that machina are an indispensable part of Spira’s development. Even if there is another incident, I intend to conceal the evidence.
YUNA: You really think people will follow you that way?
RIN: I am not alone in my thinking. We are researching ways to extract the vast energy that sleeps in Spira, and use it to power machina.
PAINE: You’re a jackass.
RIN: I will take that as a compliment.
As I said, it is more a reference to FFVII rather than a retroactive attempt to link the two games together.
As for what the correct spelling of the Iifa Tree is in FFIX, my Japanese FFIX artbook FFIX Established File spells it in English as ‘Iifa’ (and this is an official book authorised by Square), then it’s highly likely Iifa is the correct spelling.
Yeah, but don’t you think IX and now XII have really helped to revitalize the status of the moogle?
P.S. — interesting history.
Oh, and the correct spelling is Iifa. It says so in the game on the caption that appears when you first visit it. Lifa is a common misspelling though.
That’s a good way to put it. Even though each game features its own independent world, there are recurring elements that are said to be part of the FF mythology, like the summons or the chocobos. It doesn’t necessarily means that all FF worlds are connected, story-wise, they’re just part of the FF "universe".
There are however instances of direct connections between FF games (Gilgamesh, Ivalice). There’s also the example of FF VII being shown as a parallel world in FF Tactics through the Cloud and Aeris cameo (along with other connections like Materias and such).
Serioux?
Advanced and the Original
In 9,I think in Lindblum,if you inspect a sword on a wall in the weapons shop,it will make a reference to cloud from 7.I think this was done somewhere else too,but I dont remember if it was 8 or 9.
And accually it was:
No Squall or cloud shall stop out love.
I’m pretty sure
Cornelia: All my fortunes at thy foot, I lay, and I shall follow thee throughout the world!
Marcus: No cloud, no squall shall hinder us!
You really should make sure you have your facts straight before correcting people. I mean, I was wrong, but not about the line itself. I was just wrong about Zidane being the one that says it.
fine u guys do what ever you want. I’m quiting these fourms you guys are all assholes so don’t bother respawnding to this post (not the thread jsut hte post)
