I was playing the game the other day, and I came across a delightful piece of music in the Evil Forest. Do you remember the marching overture from Final Fantasy VII? What a lovely re-discovering.

Anyway, have you ever played the game and suddenly felt like you were back in one of the older Final Fantasy games? I know that was pretty much the point of this game, but it actually caught me pretty off-guard.

What’s your favorite nostalgic reference in this game?

A recent "blast to the FF past", since I just got to play FFIII within the last few months, was the Doga and Une music in Black Mage Village.

I think one of my favorites, though, will always be Mt. Gulug and its music.

I can’t wait to play Final Fantasy III. >>

I agree about Mt. Gulug. That was pretty awesome.

Somehow, "Slew of Love Letters", when I first heard it, it reminded me of FFVII, for no apparent reason, though. o_o

My favorite would be the very beginning of the game, with Vivi and Dagger in the old-school White Mage get-up. I still remember the stupid grin I had on my face the first time–wait, I get it every time I play IX–when I saw Vivi, and then Dagger’s WM get-up. It was like, a confirmation of sorts for me. I shielded myself from the hype for the most part (considering I played VI before VII and VIII were released, one should understand why), and so when I started FFIX and saw Vivi and Dagger, it was like, ‘yeah, we’re going old-school.’ I rejoiced.

I know its not a reference per-say,but when you hit the Terra part of the story in 9, it of course made me think of 6, and I had an urge to try finishing it.
But I never did.

The Prologue always makes me think of FFI. This game came full circle. :(!

I love the tune ‘We are Thieves’ – It reminds me of an old Megadrive game I can’t think of right now.
