If so, can you recomend it, im thinking of buying it, and tbh i just wanna know what its like before wasting my money and finding out its a load of crap!
The graphics though, are quite poor even for late-90’s PSX game standards, although playing it on a PS2 with the ‘smooth polygons’ option turned on greatly impproves the graphics.
However, having said that, it is still a fun little title – the music in particular is very good, featuring remixes of many classic Uematsu tunes from earlier (NES/SNES era) FF games, such as FFI’s Gulug Volcano and FFII’s Sorcerer’s Tower, although the only music track from a PSX FF game to feature in it is the battle theme Don’t Be Afraid from FFVIII. As well, the character designs are quite close to their FF designs – ranging from Chocobo to Bahamut. The story mode is a little childish though, reminsicent of Yoshi’s Island with it’s ‘pop-up book’ backgrounds.
Still, Chocobo Racing is a good game – not nearly as bad as some people make it out to be – but just don’t expect it to be an example of gaming perfection.
What d’ya think?
Anyway, it was worth my time, and yeah it’s more of a spinoff of the entire FF series, mainly the first few games, but there is an FF8 track set in Deling City, with an upbeat arrangement of the FF8 battle theme too!
It costs $1 US a month to play though, so it’s not that popular. I play it on occasion myself. It’s a fun little time waster (but as if FFXI wasn’t one already).
And Square Enix is still milking plenty of gil from the FF spin-off cash cow, you can be sure of that – there is even a FF/Mario crossover basketball game for the DS that has just been released in Japan. The FF juggernaut shows no sign of slowing down.
