Help! Glitch in game, cannot get passed Sector 7 Slum Disc 1 :S

I am using an emulator and my own CD to play this game on computer, and I have a screenshot of where I am stuck.

If I go further down and to the exits – left, right, or down, Tifa comes out of within Cloud and says "Hurry, we have to save Barrett!" So I know the only possible way up is up the staircase behind the gate, but why wont I go thrugh it?!?!

I believe I am just supposed to WALK on through the gate where I’m facing, but it isn’t letting me do so? I did/do have gameshark cheats on – could this be a problem and cause this to happen? I only had cheats from [PEC] (PSX Emulation Cheater) and they were codes like, unlimited MP and HP and stuff like that, not any kind of game modifier in any other sense.

Help please!

thats probably it then, you could try starting again without cheats? Or just loading it up from the last save without cheats?

i know thats quite a few hours to waste but you can speed it up if you turn of frame limiter.

Or look at a guide to the debug more on gamefaq. there are some really in depth guides on there and one may help you out with that specific flag that opens that door.

Yeah, It’s only 3 hours or so into the game (I wasn’t doing a speed-run or something obviously haha) and it isn’t far, I have some save states I’ll have a look at without cheats and see what happens. Thanks!

The Debugging guides would be too much for me, never gave it much of a go before and don’t think I should get into it haha

I had this trouble as well, but I think you’re supposed to talk with one of the people. Then they’ll say something about the roof, and the door will be unlocked. Have you tried talking with everyone there?

I think the old guy with the red shirt gives you a gate key, or unlocks it for you.

hahaha yeah i tried everything! Talkd to everyone, bought things from the red-vested/shirted guy and no luck!
