And in 5, lady with the green hair? Maybe tell us where you’re up to in terms of location and i’ll help.

I’m bumping this thread to keep it going since I, too, just picked up FF Anthology. I’ll most likely need help figuring out where to go and what to do, and how to beat certain villains/beasts.

Looking forward to reporting my situations on here and receiving feedback when I get stuck or sidetracked.

Also, I am assuming that the point of the story in FFV is that a large object has struck the planet and that the wind has stopped. That the adventure centers on fixing these problems. I hope to discover more as time progresses.

(FFV) Lady with green hair… Magissa? Just hit her hard and fast.
After Faltzer joins the battle and Magissa isn’t dead yet, just concentrate on her then take out Faltzer after she’s dead. I think she orders Faltzer to use stronger attacks, right? That’s why you take her out first ASAP. It’s an easy battle, actually. LiquiFlame in the engine room of the steam ship is a lot harder; it repeatedly casts Blaze which does a fair amount of damage to everyone and in its hand form it retaliates for lots of damage.

Link’s Shadow, I think your roman numerals are off by one. Anthology is FF V and VI, not VI and VII. But I think your point is taken.

As for the Anthology, I am liking VI more than V thus far. I have just arrived at South Figaro, and I’m planning to build a few levels and stock up on items (Tonics and Tents as well as Eye Drops and such).

When do I get to the point in the game when I can start in with Espers and Relics, and being able to gain and use Rage, and Dance and the other things? How do I gain access to these? And should I hold off on building levels until I have these?

When do I get to the point in the game when I can start in with Espers and Relics

You’ll get some relics in South Figaro, and I’m pretty sure you’ve already gotten some from chests. Espers come into play after you’ve cleared Zozo.

being able to gain and use Rage, and Dance and the other things?

When you gain access to the characters Gau and Mog, respectively. It will be a little while before you get all the characters and most of them each use one of those "specialties."

How do I gain access to these?

You will meet Gau as part of the story very soon, Mog a good while later. You’ll usually be given a tutorial on how to use everyone’s special abilities.

And should I hold off on building levels until I have these?

Until you get Mog, no. Until you get Espers, yeah you should be alright if you fight every battle you come across on the way. Start seriously grinding after you’ve got your espers. There are a couple picky bosses that’ll down ya, but that usually occurs whether or not you’ve leveled or not. When in doubt use Cyan’s second Swdtech. He’ll retaliate when hit after using it, and in a big way 😉

When you get Gau, mess around on those Verdt plains for a while. Gau can use "Leap" when you are in that area so he can learn the abilities of the monsters that he joins and the ones that he shows up with. You get him back by giving him some dried meat when he shows up after you have killed all the monsters during a battle. Make sure not to attack him! It would help you greatly for Gau to learn the abilities of monsters with elemental attacks such as Belmodar and Bomb (huge damage there with Blaze). I think you will probably be able to return to the plains some time later, but not for a good long while, so you might as well build him up then.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll start through the Mt Kolts (sorry if I misspelled this) area and make some progress in the game.
If this were FFVII, IX, or X, I’d just keep building levels until I nearly died from the boredom. These older games take a little more strategy, though.

I’ll check back in once in a while as I come to other crossroads. Thanks again.

You get him back by giving him some dried meat when he shows up after you have killed all the monsters during a battle.
You initially need to feed him dry meat to get him to join you (get dry meat from the items store in Moblitz), but you don’t need to feed him dry meat after you get him back from using rage. At least, not for the Advance and SNES version of FFVI.
