Random Heroes

ALSO: Have anyone heard of The Ramainz? altough their only album is old it’s still pretty amazing, it’s Dee Dee Ramone on vocals, Barbara Ramone on Bass and vocals( yes female vocals on Ramones song) and Marky Ramone, it’s an amazing one-time only reunion for a live show and it shows that the Ramones spirit is alive, and ifrc it’s one of the last shows perfomed by Dee Dee
That pickle whatever band wasn’t up my alley. Sounds like one more attempted Fat Wreck band to me. Random Heroes are pretty good though. They have an edge. Not surprising since the influences they list are vastly superior! This is a good find.
This band is completely awesome. I think in about three years, every good pop-punk band in America is going to be the same people in New York.

Well i never heard the solo material from Dee Dee Ramone, but the Ramainz album sounded fine to me altough it can’t compare to Loco Live or It’s Alive which are clearly superior, since Dee Dee usually slows the songs a bit.
Yes, after a second list Picklead Dick is a bit generic, i found another band that altough worse than Random heroes imo, is still good:
Captain everything!

Also Short Attention are great i bet that the leadsinger is from teh Ergs!
It was a good night.
It was a good night.
You are lucky ;(

I refuse to ever catergorize The Flaming Lips as indie.
Ever.
Ever.
Ever.
Ever.
Also you got tickets to the Lips live, i envy you ;-;;;
Also i just found out that the best song of The Ramones tribute album: We’re A Happy Family is an Eddie Vedder song, A Pretenders Song, and a Pete Yorn Song….. well it’s a weak album overall ;-;;
Ever.
Ever.
YOU MUST BE ONE OF THEM TOO
Lewis is clearly in denial ;(
:O Probably! Hm….although…..maybe Jester?
..But I’m not!_!
I’m even keener on shouting "anachronism!" at them but that is so rarely applicable ;(
;(
Ever.
Ever.
Or Joy Division.
Maybe BSP at a stretch. Maybe
TK is just being poop and latching onto B&S though ;(
They don’t suck ;(
Also do you have any news on Lost Locker combo :O?
I am searching, though. Searching for the right men and women.
Why do you dislike The Flaming Lips and Belle and Sebastian?
Take this to PM if you don’t want this thread to be bastardized 🙁
The Flaming Lips however, are gobshite!
You suck.
Love, Meph.
Also TK how are they boring! Flaming Lips in particular!
Here is a fucking awesome pop punk band called This Is My Fist! I am seeing them tomorrow night with The Ergs and the Low Budgets and I’m pretty stoked, to say the least.
The Flaming Lips have moved more than you’ll ever know, seriously. They’ve been around since 1983, right.
"Hear it Is" combines beautiful sounding songs with raw punk.
"Oh My Gawd!!" – Is progressive, experimental rock with elements of punk.
"Telepathic Surgery" – Retains Punk-ish conventions, but sounds fuzzier, and introduces collages of noise.
"In a Priest Driven Ambulance" – Has a completely different guitarist and drummer, producing a more creative, yet fierce approach.
"Hit to Death in the Future Head" – Incorporated a more experimental side to the Lips noise wise, along with bits and pieces like Orhcestra’s being unconventionally included.
"Transmissions from the Satellite Heart" – Is slightly more commercial. Slightly. Less punk, slightly more melodic but still fuzzy guitar/rock album with catchier beats.
"Clouds Taste Metallic" – Is again easier to listen to. Very much 85% melodies with acoustic guitar, and the occasional aspect of noise and more dancy tunes.
"Soft Bulletin" – More keyboard, more commercially successful, more approachable lyrics. Much less guitar.
"Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" – Combines fantastical ideologies, with magical and melodic acoustic riffs, much softer vocals, and more playful drumming. This is also a semi-concept album.
"At War With the Mystics" – Maximises use of both Guitar effects and keyboard. The most commercially succesful album. More chill-out side to them, is also noticeable. A much more danceable album.
This is just a quick overview. They’ve gone from Raw Punk, to Aggresive/Fuzzy Rock, to Progressive/Punk, All whilst becoming more experimental with sounds and noise, then onto becoming slightly more melodic and easy listening, then 100% melodic, and then maximised use of Keyboards and Guitars creates a 100% alternate rock feel to them.
While they haven’t particulalry moved from an "Alternative" tag, they’ve moved far more than many, MANY other bands. Listen to all the albums if you need proof. Or ask Mossy, TC, Duo or T66.
Sounds faggy? .. Well I don’t have much to say about this.
What’s wrong with Art and Rock being combined? There’s not too much art here at all in my opinion.
indie is a really stupid genre anyways
and i thought you liked b&s, tk? ^~ and claiming the flaming lips have not changed only indicated you havent heard an awful lot of their music, tbqh. the difference between the first three albums and the last three is pretty huge.
Not tha i don’t like it ;(
Tbh all that stuff is irrelevant to me, I’ve simply never heard any Flaming Lips stuff I found interesting.
I used to like B&S. I used to like a lot of that sort of stuff. Can’t really listen to it anymore though. There was a time when I probably would have liked the Flaming Lips, I suppose.
anyways, hey, there’s no account for taste eh. is that a saying? something like that.

At War With The Magicians actually grew on me and i think it’s a good album not SB or Yoshimi but still good
hoho OK~

No, all I was trying to do was make the point that they have moved, musically. I wasn’t trying to sell them to you or anything.
I didn’t like it as much when I first bought it, but I have since decided that it holds up to the Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi perfectly well. I listen to it tons ;(
Agreed. Examples of that would be: Red Hot Chilli Peppers(latest album, oh dear…) and Oasis. Bands that stay the same are the ones I like the most too. Shows they are consistent and stay true to what they are all about.
But what if they changed for the better?
It’s possible though.
But, surely if they maintain the convention that made them them, they could expand musically without any ‘harm’ done?
But, surely if they maintain the convention that made them them, they could expand musically without any ‘harm’ done?
Sure. I would consider that staying the same. Obviously when I say I like it when bands stay the same, I don’t mean I want them to play the same song over and over again. Variety is the spice of life and all that. Mainly it’s that convention that you’re talking about.
I think it’s kind of silly to expect what a band is about to remain static over the course of a decade+ and afaics it (the fact that they have at some point chaged) has nothing to do with whether or not you like their current sound, or their sound for a specific
I don’t "expect" any bands to remain static. I just like it when they do. In my experience, when bands "evolve" or "experiment," it usually means they are doing something I don’t like anymore. As I’ve said, though, this is not automatically the case.
hah, knew you were going to say that.
but there’s no reason a band who you used to dislike could change into something you liked. surely it has more to do with the nature of the evolution than the fact that it occured?
Well, that’s all the Flaming Lips did tbh. I know you like "zany" punk, so you should at least try and give "Oh My Gawd" a listen. If you don’t like it then it’s fine – But I do agree that Variety is the spice of life, because it is. As long as a band retains what initially made them good/original it wouldn’t matter.
but there’s no reason a band who you used to dislike could change into something you liked. surely it has more to do with the nature of the evolution than the fact that it occured?
Sure, that’s possible, though I can’t think of any examples. I’m a fan of consistency. I’m quite picky when it comes to music, so when I find something I like, I really like it, and I want to have as much of it as possible. If significant changes are made there’s a good chance I won’t like it anymore.
An example of a bands "evolving" and me liking it would be the Weakerthans and Dirt Bike Annie. No others come to me off the top of my head, but I am sure there are some.
SO, unlike other people in this thread, I am capable of liking both pop-punk and indie-fag music AT THE SAME TIME. clearly I am of the finest musical taste.
Other bands who have remained better or even improved through evolving, imo: Propagandhi, The Mountain Goats, Tom Waits.
i thought i had something else to add but yeah i forget what
Ben Folds is one of my favorites, and with the exception of the stuff he did with William Shatner, he’s basically stuck to doing the same sort of tunes that were on the first Ben Folds Five album. His last album is probably my least favorite, but there were some great tunes on it, and he still continues to put out lots of great singles and eps.
also: ~descendants~
=(
=(
I love you for being out of indie fag mode :-*
flaming lips aren’t indie so….their not indie fag ;(
tweepop not indie ;(
Quite like it, and probably one of the few pop-punk bands that could actually end up playing here.
Also The John Stamos Project:
Haha ;O
I probably like this band a whole lot more than I ought to.
ANYWAY, SURELY I OUGHTN’T LIKE ANY BAND YOU LIKE SINCE I’M AN INDIE FAG :FUKKENROLL:
how can you not love this.
