You have to capture ten of every monster in every area. Equip all your characters with weapons that have Capture, and work your way up from Besaid. You’ll be able to view all of the monsters you’ve captured at the Monster Arena in the Calm Lands, but I would keep count on a sheet of paper. Almost everything is captureable, except for bosses, humans, and machines.
Takes a while.

you don’t have to capture 10 of every monster in every area. You only have to capture 10 of 1 monster in 10 areas. I only captured 10 of one monster in 10 different areas and I got it. It’s a LOT quicker than capturing 10 of EVERY monster in EVERY area. just go to besaid, pick a monster, and capture 10 of it. then go to kilika and do the same thing. do that in 10 areas and go to the monster arena and the old guy should give it to you.
