just because that’s the etymology of the name doesn’t mean that’s what it still means. this is the same as the rpg debate.

it doesn’t matter if ppl download PSX/PS2 games cause you still need an actual bios dump for the emulator to work, and i do not believe ppl give those out freely. you would need to rip your own. in any case, the PS2 emulators out there right now really REALLY suck. visuals/audio are fritzzy and sometimes you won’t be able to get past the menu. PSX emulators are not bad though. i only use the GBA, project64, and PSX emulator from romnation. the game files seem to be down alot. the torrents from emuparadise (it doesn’t seem to be that virus-y)seem to be in good order though.
