and it is possibly the sole greatest investment I’ve ever made. Perhaps only rivaled by De-Loused in the Comatorium also by Mars Volta

I prefer De-Loused but both are great. I don’t like it when a song is more than ten minutes and Frances the Mute has it’s fair share of those

yeah ive gotta admit, that pisses me off too. the first song, cant remember what its called, something starting with V could be split up into 4 songs so easily. its irritating

There’s nothing wrong with a bit of Progressive Rock guys. When its done RIGHT.

Frances the Mute is a wonderfully brilliant album. Each song fits together perfectly, the guitar solo’s are so varied, Cedrics vocals have improved in most cases, their newly acquired bassist (Juan Alderte) is far better than Flea (Deloused), imo. Its original and generally a great listen.

I ‘m all in favour of progressive rock, but what I don’t partcularly like are the almost silent moments that last for 5 minutes. Top album though, without doubt

Listen, before I go on, I’ll justsay I’m very pleased that you like the album. TMV don’t have a huge amount of fans — I think this is the way it’s meant to be, but hey — theres about 3 fans on here, and it’s nice to see more 🙂

But in any case, I’ve listened to Frances the Mute many times, and there are no silent moments.

There is one song, the one before Cassandra Geminni: Faminepulse which is about a 6 minute jam with little to no vocals, but this is by no means silent. There are many sounds and many instruments playing: Guitar, bass, flute, tenor saxohphone, etc. its just ambient. I admit, its not very practical to listen to just one or two songs, I feel that you have to listen to it all the way through if you’re going to listen to it at all, but thats just the way it is.

tbh, I don’t get the mars volta.everyone speaks of them like their sounds is terribly original, but they sound pretty damn generic to me.

🙁

I know Rapture will kill me for saying it, but This Apparatus Must Be Un-earthed is imo one of the best examples of their music

Well, I personally couldn’t really name a band that sounds like The Mars Volta…

And I think they are pretty original, I mean since when has there ever been a free jazz, salsa, progressive, psychadelic, experimental, ethnic band since TMV?

KREAYSHAWN

true, perhaps, but I have ever heard anything anywhere near as original or distinct as, say, the stuff the Animal Collective or Max Tundra make from TMV.

I don’t really mean it in a bad way, I just don’t quite get them. =/

I know you don’t mean it in a bad way duo, but how much have you heard by them?

Also, I’ve decided to download some Max Tundra.

And, Mossy — It is a pretty good example, but I would say as examples of what they’re like: "Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt" and "Cygnus…Vismund Cygnus".

yeah, lovin cygnus. My favorites are televators and cicatriz esp. inertiatic esp kicks some sack too.

the only other band that I can name that seems remotely similar is The Music
