Indeed….

Anyway, I own both European (PAL) and US (NTSC) versions of the FF games, including several different versions of FFVI! Why? Some (such as the US FFII and IIII on the SNES, and FF Anthology) I imported before the European versions even existed, and as I don’t beleive in playing ROMs (I’d rather legally own the physical game itself), so it was the only real way of playing them.

When they eventually gained a local PAL release, I went out and purchased them too..

European, Japanese and American games are all the same, The only difference in some, is that ONE OR TWO had an expansion, I think that’s FFX-2 Internation something something, but anyway.

That’s not entirelly correct. Often, when a FF game is released in the US and Europe, it’s been ‘tweaked’ so to speak, and sometimes features extras which weren’t included in the Japanese version (such as the PAL version of FFX featuring the Dark Aeons, which wasn’t in the original Japanese and US versions of FFX).

Sometimes though, the foreign release is actually watered-down and censored, with parts taken out or removed (the original US SNES release of FFIV is a case in point, which was censored and had some spells and items removed). Normally, such releases are later re-released in Japan, often with the word ‘International’ after the title (such as FFVII International and FFX International).

And of course, the FF compliations only confuse the matter even more, as each region (Japan, the US and Europe) often have their own different compliations, which may have the same title but feature different games in the package – for instance, FF Anthology on the PSX featured FFV and VI along with a music CD in the US (with FFIV ‘Hard Type’ being included with Chrono Trigger under the title FF Chronicle, but the European version featured FFIV ‘Hard Type’ and V, as FFVI was re-released as a stand-alone game (bundled with a bonus playable demo of FFX for the PS2) on the PSX in PAL territories.

It all makes for a very confusing time for the unwary FF collector.

Well, I daresay Japanese versions would be better, but only because it would be in the original language, and therefore exactly as the creators intended.

All PAL, here.
