Grace Jones / Nightclubbing
Rate: http://tinypic.com/2n633c
Review.
By all means a phenomenal pop album that hit number nine on the black albums chart and crossed over to penetrate the pop charts at number 32, Nightclubbing saw Grace Jones working once again with reggae kings Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare twisting the knobs. Nightclubbing also continues Jones’ tradition of picking excellent songs to reinterpret. This time out, the Police’s "Demolition Man," Bill Withers’ "Use Me," and Iggy Pop’s "Nightclubbing" receive radical reinterpretations; "Nightclubbing" is glacial in both tempo and lack of warmth, while both "Use Me" and "Demolition Man" fit perfectly into Jones’ lyrical scheme. Speaking of a lyrical scheme, "Pull Up to the Bumper" (number five black singles, number two club play) is so riddled with naughty double entendres or is it just about parallel parking? that it renders Musique’s "In the Bush" as daring as Paul Anka’s "Puppy Love." Drive it in between what, Grace? It’s not just lyrics that make the song stick out; jingling spirals of rhythm guitar and a simplistic, squelching, mid-tempo rhythm make the song effective, even without considering Jones’ presence. Sly & Robbie provide ideal backdrops for Jones yet again, casting a brisk but not bristly sheen over buoyant structures. Never before and never since has a precisely chipped block of ore been so seductive.

And yes, I have all these albums.
My god, I forgot about this little gem.
I usually stay away from pop music and chart music because of it’s lack of individuality and talent.
And in 1997/98 I really avoided this album for a while because Natalie was yet another television actress gone singer / songwriter just to make a quick buck.
About six months after it was released, I purchased it anyway, and to my surprise, the tracks on this record were deeper than I had preconceived. Even all these years later, I still put it on and sing along. For an accessible pop album, it really is incredible.
My faves are: Torn, Big Mistake, Smoke, Impressed aswell as Frightened Child (only found on the special release with bonus disc)

Three months from now, this thread will pop back up to the top of this forum. Because my list will finally be completed!
IT HAS BEEN 4 MONTHS.
My musical experience has been really limited so most of my "favorite albums" are all metal albums, but regardless I guess I could start with these:
Slayer- Reign in Blood
Metallica- …And Justice For All
Testament- The Gathering
Megadeth- Rust in Peace
Aside from other albums from the same bands, I can’t think of any other whole albums I really love more than anything besides various soundtracks, and I don’t know if I should count those here.
Ok Computer/The bends/hail to the thief-Radiohead
Nevermind/In Utero/Unplugged-Nirvana
The Bravery-The Bravery
The Soft Bulletin/Yoshimi-The Flaming Lips
Origin Of Symmetry/Absolution-Muse
Foo Fighters, Colour and the shape, one by one-Foo fighters
The Battle of los angeles-RATM
Out of exile-Audioslave
Californication-RHCP
Antics-Interpol
London’s Calling-The Clash
The Downward Spiral-NIN
Rated R, SFTD, Lullabies to paralyze-QOTSA
De-loused in the comatorium/frances the mute-The Mars Volta
Ten/Rearview mirror-Pearl Jam
The best of REM-REM
thats about it…
heres my favourite albums and they seem a world away from the rest of you but anyways we all cant like the same thing:
Kylie – Fever, such a great upbeat CD, and those straight lads amonst us would like the album cover as its basically her in that sheet!!!
Girls Aloud – Sound Of The Underground, a cd that i listened to pratically all of summer 2003.
Girls Aloud – What Will The Neighbours Say, I really like this cd aswell and can listen to it all the way through, even though there is a couple of tear-jerkers on it, and plus jump has pleasant memories because i was flirting with bf online and quoting my re-working of the lyrics, although it was them that sent me a message saying ‘I’ll Take you down’
Darren hayes – The Tension and The Spark, quite a deep album, a world away from his savage garden days, but I think its great.
Steps – Buzz, yeah i know what you are thinking… a steps album!!! but they were a great POP group.
Metallica-Master Of Puppets
Pantera-Cowboys From Hell
Nevermore-Dead Heart In A Dead World
Evergrey-In Search For Truth
Dream Theater-Train Of Thought
Megadeth-Blackmail The Universe
Savatage-Edge Of Thorns

Out of Exile’s a bit predictable but I think it’s a more solid album than Audioslave. Does anyone else think Your Time has Come and Cochise sound identical?
Also….silent alarm by bloc party….
i’ve listened to this album back and forth probably a 1000 times since i bought it and it still manages to amaze me
whenever i get into an argument with some fuck claiming anyone can make "electronic" music or just saying "electronic music is just pushing some buttons" or anything like that i make them listen Menelec or Tetra Sync and laugh my ass of
Mtv Unplugged’s- Alice In Chains and Nirvana

I can’t believe I forgot to mention Ultravisitor…I was too in "metal" mode during my initial post. That album has some of the most captivating music I’ve heard, with dazzling production. Squarepusher has my highest respect.
hope to see him do a live session oneday
btw if youre still into that kinda music
http://web93.nsi11.miniserver.de/Kid%20A%20-%20Freaksound%20FM%2012.08.05.mp3
free set from amazing Dj that even mixes some songs of him that i would pressume are unmixable and some aphex twin tracks aswell
beginning is a bit slow and more glitch hop but the midlle and end is amazing especially for such a large set
Mtv Unplugged’s- Alice In Chains and Nirvana
it changed my life because i didnt have a direction to go in my music taste i liked all things…like pop to heavy metal – usher to slayer.. and then came lostprophets with to hell we ride being the first song i herd from the boys i was yes!! this is the band for me and they have never let me down when im in any kind of mood. they are very versatile and thats how they influence me. well there ye go lol.
Iron Maiden – Killers, Number Of The Beast
Megadeth – Rust In Peace
Opeth – Blackwater Park

Thinking:
Alcest – Le Secret 2005
Krallice – Diotima
Neutral Milk Hotel – In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Crushing:
Isis – Oceanic
Questing:
Blind Guardian – Nightfall in Middle-Earth
Drinking:
Peste Noire – Peste Noire
Tom Waits – Small Change
Dreaming:
Boris – Flood
