Right when I press play for FFXI, it gets an error sayin I might not have the requirements to play it and something bout RnL or TnL. I need help quickly so I can play!

Thanks.

Short Answer: Get a better videocard for your PC

Long Answer: Your video card is fairly old and cannot render the graphics needed for Final Fantasy XI. Newer videocards should be able to handle it just fine but they can be fairly expensive… but if you look around, you might not need to spend more than 50 dollars for a decent video card.

Normally, the ‘hardware textures and lighting’ (TnL) error message comes up if you’re running onboard video (in other words, video that is intergrated on the motherboard). As FFXI is fairly graphic intensive, onboard video just doesn’t cut the mustard.

I run FFXI with a Geeforce 4 MX 440 video card on my system (which I picked up for $50), and it runs FFXI very well. It doesn’t support some of FFXI’s more fancier graphic features though (like ‘bump mapping’), but regardless, the game runs very well even without that feature. If the video card is an AGP card, it should run FFXI then without any real problems, assuming it’s fairly recent.
