A question that has been on my mind since I got in to anime/manga. A question that I hope you guys don’t mind me by posting/asking, but what are OVA’s? Are they some kind of shorts, spin-off, specials, or what? And what do the initionals mean?

OVA is an acronym for Original Animation Video and refers to animated works produced specifially for video release rather than television or theatrical release.

In my experience, most OVAs these days tend to be short and incomplete, usually produced just to bring attention to a manga. The only really good one I’ve seen recently was the new Captain Herlock OVA series.

It might not exactly be what you’re looking for, but it’s worth noting that one of the original OVAs is being released on DVD in the next couple of weeks. Fight! Iczer-One is a classic, but it does have some nudity and a lot of gore. If you don’t mind that, check it out.

If your drunk, high or both then check out dead leaves. It has crazy animation, a very low sex scene and lots of crazy fighting. Well worth looking at!
