What are your opinions on Id software?
I’ve been playing for those five years, actually longer because I used to play the demo before that. I’ve witnessed the rise and fall (and damn what a fall it was) of Unreal Tournament 2k3, they tampered with the one aspect that made the original UT such a great succes, the pure speed of the game, fast paced action was removed. The game was slow to the point of being sluggish. UT2k4 made up for it by introducing Onslaught, in my oppinion the only reason why it’s a succes.
ID is not, by a long strech, the best creator of FPS games.
I am, of course, talking about Valve and Half-Life. Half-Life introduced smart enemy A.I., interesting new environments, and of course, a story element. There is no popular single-player FPS now that does not have an indepth, intriguing story – and Half-Life started it all.
Id attempted to wow back the market with Doom 3 – and they have certainly come a long way.The Doom 3 engine is certainly pretty, even if you do need a supercomputer to run it at full potential, and while it doesn’t have an indepth story per se, the horror elements and the environments give it a depth of detail.
However, Valve haven’t been sitting around twiddling their thumbs. Half-Life 2, although constantly delayed (and delayed), was instantly forgiven the moment it was released. Undoubtedly the best first-person shooter experience, and one of the best games of all time, Half-Life 2 contained the A.I., the horror (Ravenholm was scarier than the entirely of Doom 3), and a brilliant story. It also managed to keep from being repetitive – every section introduced a new gameplay element.
And, like you said, Id’s multiplayer has been lacking of late. Counter-Strike is still the most popular internet game (once again, without Half-Life there would be no CS), and games like Unreal Tournament, Battlefield 1942 and Halo 2 provide a refined multiplayer experience better than Id’s effort (Quake III).
Although Id will undoubtedly remain popular – there is, after all, still a market for mindless shooters – their days as the dominant developer in the genre are over.
As opposed to get the BFG and kill 5?
Meh.
Doom 3 is an easier, simpler FPS than both UT2k4 and HL2. Same goes for Q3A and Q2. They’re incredibly simple, incredibly easier, and most of all, incredibly predictable. Oh look, another imp.
What is it with the recent influx of tripe?
Dude, Killzone pwns the shit out of Doom!! I have no clue what the fuck you are talking about!
I hope you’re talking about Doom 1. Even then, it’s close =/
What is it with the recent influx of tripe?
Hey no need fer maken fen o us Scottish. Come on Willies a good guy.
And UT is not a more complex fps, it’s one of the most simplest it has to be for people like you, were are the objectives, were is the strategy were is the tradition. Yes Doom 3 sucks … bad … really bad … really really bad. But still there are many more fpses out there that are better than UT. ET for example, is one of the most action packed, thrilling, and enjoyable games out there. And just to let you know Id built the fps industry. But still myths die out … and I don’t see any promise with UT. And as Raidenex said Valve will probably take fps gaming to a new era. But not UT. Cuz UT isn’t sophisticated, cuz it’s built around simplistic gameplay.
But I’m done arguing cuz I really only wanted to see peoples ideas on Id fps. Any ways every bodies got a fan and an enemy. Besides I done pissing you off cuz personally were in a dead end. So yeah, besides I’m high on froot-loopz.
Where is the strategy in Doom 1 or 2. Where is the strategy in Quake 1, 2, 3.
That’s right, where is the intense strategy you’re talking about.
People build lots of things, that doesn’t mean that the original builder is better by rights than the newer people.
There is no proof that X-Box has better graphics. If you bring back frame rate. How much memory each card has. and power than compare those than I’ll believe you if you day X-Box has the better graphics. Untill then I dont want no crap about graphics.
Get all three systems, line them up, three tv’s. Go through pretty much every single multi format game. There’s a marked difference between the PS2 and the XBox, though small, on most, and on some it is miles ahead (THUG2 on 480p/1080p). How much memory card has? All three systems have unofficial cards with huge amounts of space. The Xbox has an HD, which is a superb addition. The Gc probably has the biggest official memory cards, but also requires seperate formatting for import games.
"Power" is such a ridiculous phrase in this case. If you mean the voltage, the PS2 and Xbox run off the same power cable, and the GC has it’s own sort.
Framerates? Higher on the Xbox. Quite simply compare Burnout 3, mercenaries, true crime, THUG2 (especially, even in HDTV modes), medal of honour rising sun (I think that’s the cross format one), and Defjam. Some of them have bigger differences than others, but trust me, the resolutions are slightly higher on the xbox, not to mention generally higher framerates.
My ideas on ID FPSes are that they’ve got some excellent level design, but they need to actually get some decent writers before their games get anywhere. They have some excellent designers, but just lack…well, the creativity to stick it together into something genuinely amazing.
PS: Even though graphicaly x-box blows ps2 out of the water graphicaly. The ps2 uses a 128 bit cpu custom built by sony. X-box uses a 32bit cpu by intel.
Read a little closer dude. lol
Have you played Killzone? To be honest, that game fucking rocks… sure it has a few minor flaws, not nearly as many as most people claim. In any case, Killzone has a totally solid story with really good visuals and good gameplay. The only downfalls were the linearity of the game and a few enemy’s that take too many bullets.
You actually believed that a 32 bit system could pump out something like Halo 2?? I guess you are more retarded than I first saw.
