Rinne Kokyogaku and Ecophony Gaia are two CDs put out by the Geinoh Yamashirogumi; the group responsible for the Akira soundtrack. Anyways, I just got both of them today.

Rinne is the one that caused Katsuhiro Otomo to request that they do the soundtrack for him, and he also said that if they wouldn’t, then he would like to simply use Rinne as the movies soundtrack. You can hear a lot of similarities in the music between the two. Here’s one track. (http://ribaldyouth.com/mp3/%8eR%8f%e9%91g)%20%97%d6%89%f4%8c%f0%8b%bf%8ay%20E cophony%20Rinne%20%5b03%5d%20%91%e6%8eO%8f%cd%20%e 1%d2%91z.mp3) There are 4 altogether for a total of 40 minutes.

Gaia is from the early 90s. You can still recognize their style, but the chorus which is so prominent in Rinne only comes in occasionally. One track from this album (http://ribaldyouth.com/mp3/%8eR%8f%e9%91g)%20%90%89%90%af%8c%f0%8b%bf%8ay%20-%20ecophony%20Gaia%20%5b04%5d%20%87W%8f%cd%20%8fn% 89%f3%81m%8b%df%81E%8c%bb%91%e3%81n%20Catastrophe. mp3). 6 tracks in total for about 70 minutes of music. I believe both albums were made to be performed live as a whole, which is why the individual track count on each CD is so low.

That’s it. I know there are a few people here that liked the Akira soundtrack as much as I did but -like me- never looked into any of their other music, so I thought I’d make this topic. Both are really good, I think, though the Akira soundtrack has more variety than them.

Couldn’t really get into it, myself. Just too… "backgroundy" for me, I guess. I forgot it was on. =\

Yeah, I figured you’d think something like that. You told me that about the Akira soundtrack.

But well, you know what they say. Terry-kun is a man of immature musical tastes.

Seriously though, and this is a secret, but I only put the music up for one person(secretly now, don’t tell anyone!) Of course he may never see the topic, but that is part of the interest to be found in this game of life! To burn with the passion that will willingly will itself to ignite, and develop a character that is lacking in malignant tendencies.

That was the most moving thing I have ever read.

You’ve changed my life, rezo. Forever.

haha

If it wasn’t for this person’s silly revival of a three year old thread, I would have never seen it. This thread was meant for me and it took a violation of basic forum protocol to ensure its revealing to me, late but ever.

also: hey rezo

Stuff like this happening is why the casual passage of time is one of my favorite things in the world(excepting the whole thing about how I will eventually die)

I guess I could have just given you the music directly of course, but… but if I had done that then how could you have discovered it on your own three years later?

This is truly one of the more entertaining things I’ve ever experienced on an internet forum.

I still haven’t listened to the music yet. I’m busy moving out for the summer. =(
