Recommend me some classical music.

Seriously, I’m looking to get some "modern" classical music CD’s and am totally unfamiliar with any of the modern composers/sub-genres.

And, aside from those who compose movie/game soundtracks (Harry Gregson-Williams, Nobuo Uematsu, etc.), I have no idea who to look for. Not to mention the fact that places like Borders don’t even stock things like that Uematsu album I asked about here a while back…

Anyway, suggestions?

Well Beethoven, Mozart, Shubert (I would recommend a cd with the song Pachelbel) and Vivaldi. They’re all like way back then like 1800s or 1900s i’m not sure all I know that it’s good music. Sorry it’s not really modern I don’t know any modern classical music.

I would recommend The Emerson String Quartet, best violin playing you’ll ever hear.
They did the score for Requiem For A Dream, and other great films.

Nancy Van De Vate, she does some great renditions, with the modern touch. It’s all Orchestra though.

The Chamber Symphony they do some great modern renditions, and they have great piano solos.

Yeah I realized that but I realized it too late oh well. So then Yo Yo Ma is one he’s pretty good too. I think he’s modern.

I don’t listen to that much classical music anymore, unfortunately. I listen to so much music already, and I guess taking music classes is what really kept me interested in it.

But we studied this symphony (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004WJVS/qid=1102818254/sr=1-8/ref=sr_1_8/103-7996719-6867032?v=glance&s=classical), and it made enough of an impression on me that I still remember it 3 years or so later.

It’s really incredible. I’m not sure if you’ve ever studied music at all, but this is just so insanely complex that it blows my mind to hear people playing. There’s a lot of variety too- some parts of it are just overpowering and other parts are just soft, sweet, and gentle.

There’s this classical pianist who I also really like, and I’m pretty sure I have one of his albums somewhere, but I can’t remember his name! I think it’s Jeffrey Michaels, but I’m not sure. I don’t know if you could buy his albums online though- I met him when he was playing at a garden, and I bought his cd straight from him. He’s an aspiring movie composer. 🙂

But that and the LOTR soundtrack (or other movies soundtracks I guess…Star Wars?) are really the closest thing I’ve really heard that could even begin to be considered modern classical music.

There’s not many out there. Bond’s just trying to make a name for itself. Darn Olympics.

If you want like ‘modern’ modern classical, I recommend Vangelis. Some brilliant pieces like ‘Rachel’s Song’ and ‘Memories of Green’
