Excel Saga was a parody on all anime and FLCL was just random and crazy, but with a plot that went somewhere and did it at a much faster pace then Excel Saga did. It was short and if was the length of Excel Saga I think we would seriously be reconsidering which is better, longer series are only good if it progresses and keeps everything interesting while wrapping up the loose ends.
FLCL for me though, got to love the guitar weapons and the ‘evil alien’.

The FLCL manga was much better, because of the art style Gainax uses in it. It’s wackier than Excel Saga.

FLCL’s art style is wackier, yes, but I always thought the Excel Saga manga was way more about the words then the pictures.
Just look at how much dialouge they cram into those panels sometimes.

I found Excel Saga to be much funnier. It had some wit to it, while FLCL’s humor was mostly just random stupidity. Not that it wasn’t enjoyable, mind you.
Besides, Menchi holds a kind of special significance for me. My brother has had the nickname Minchie for years, so since Excel Saga was released, we’ve picked on him endlessly about it.
