The first Belle & Sebastian album, Tigermilk. I love it, and someone here who listens to them a lot should tell me which album to get next. I’m looking at you, Charlemagne.
"Weevilville," a live album by a band called The Bollweevils who I had only heard one song from on a compilation CD. It’s good and I found it used for like five bucks. 😀
Man of La Mancha Soundtrack.
I figured since I respected their music so much, I should stop stealing it 🙁
Man of La Mancha Soundtrack.
Believe it or not, most people who have a really serious and genuine interest in music like to actually obtain what the artist put together and pay them what they deserve for it.

Evenescence c’mon! they suck so bad their tongues hurt! buy a metallica album!
Metallica loves you!
I’m still looking for Moonspell – The Butterfly Effect.
A brilliant album, not there best, but still evry awesome, The Wagon and Water are definitley the best tracks.
I’m still looking for Moonspell – The Butterfly Effect.
Cool you like MoonSpell, they are a great band,
the last Cd i bought was the KoRn grestest hits, an the week before that, Cradle of Filth, Manson Greastest hits and also Rammstein, they all rule
Metallica loves you!
Metallica has no depth whatsoever. Sure, their songs mean something, but it’s not something that I connect to on any real level.
Don’t get me wrong – Metallica is a great band. It’s weird though that my favourite song of theirs is their ‘out-of-character’ acoustic song, Nothing Else Matters.
Evanescence has a message behind their songs that I can relate to – Fallen is an entire album about crisis of faith. Everyone at some point has lost faith in something – you don’t even have to be a Christian to appreciate the raw emotions of fear and betrayal.
It’s a gripping, emotional experience, which is what music should be about.
(I’ve been to practically every music store and did find alot of rare albums but I can NOT find Fallen).
First of all, I was not being entirely serious with the first thing. =\
Also, the vast majority of the music I listen to I wouldn’t be able to buy (or even obtain illegally), unless it’s with absurd import costs that make it twice as expensive than if I was getting a normal cd. Everything else I listen to, I own all of their music.
I think I’ve downloaded a total of one cd, ever. =\

Okay.
Let’s see, I can think up a few good examples of metallica songs that have similar "depth" to anything evanescence have done.
Fade to black, it’s about the walk towards suicide.
Loverman’s about a rapist.
Sweet Amber’s about the lead singer’s drink problem.
The Unforgiven is about a gunslinger.
The Outlaw Torn’s about, well, love.
See?
We can draw lame meaning from every goddamn song if we want to. Not that Metallica are anymore deep than evanescence, but evanescene are not, and will never be "deep."
Also, the vast majority of the music I listen to I wouldn’t be able to buy (or even obtain illegally), unless it’s with absurd import costs that make it twice as expensive than if I was getting a normal cd.
I do that pretty regularly =\
A person’s definition of ‘deep’ depends on how it affects them personally – Evanescence affects me on a deeper emotional level than Metallica, probably because i’ve experienced a lot of what they talk about.
Because i’ve never struggled with drugs or violence, I can’t connect with Metallica on the same level.
I probably could have phrased my argument better, but that’s what i’m trying to say – the music of Evanescence seems deeper to me.

Well fine i guess i dont hate them. just that wen i got their album i listened to it for like a week. then they just wondered over to my sister’s room n i wasn’t bothered in the slightest. so i generally came to dislike their songs.
I even turn the channel if they come on. its bad but i just cant like them sorry mate!

any way monkey man you hit the nail on the head my friend there are also
others like;
King Nothing- how people desert you if treat them badly "you point your finger, but theres no-one around" hmm?
well my friend you are a man after my own heart. Metallica Loves you!

Uh, yeah, I wasn’t trying to be as snappy as that came off. Sorry.
Something… longer. But I am tired. I’d recommend either ‘If You’re Feeling Sinister’ or ‘Dear Catastrophe Waitress’. If You’re Feeling Sinister is in much the same vein as Tigermilk, though it is generally thought of as slightly inferior. DCW features much more expansive instrumentation and generally has a completely different tone to their earlier stuff. It’s sort of happy an up-beat, but I found it to be just as enjoyable as previous efforts.
Of the remaining albums, I’d recommend ‘The Boy With The Arab Strap’ above ‘Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like A Peasant’.
Also, you might want to avoid Storytelling. I like it, and all, but it’s an OST and mostly consists of instrumentals. The few proper songs on it are pretty good, but it’s probably not worth getting unless you’re really after some background music, or are just a huge fan, or I don’t know what.
So, Dear Catastrophe Waitress or If You’re Feeling Sinister, then.
Yes.
oh, and Le Tigre – This Island
whenever something sticks out that I’m surprised to see I’ll usually get it. =)
The cd is pretty generic, but hey i like it.
It’s okay.
Right now I’m quite the loose cannon, though.
so beware!
I *think* the last album I bought was the latest PJ Harvey. I’m not sure though- I got a lot of cds in a big spurt.
(still listening to it fulling through, so far it’s alright…a bit different from the earlier album, I think, but it’s still good…)
I haven’t bought any really good albums in a while. No good CD shops round here. I need to start ordering stuff online.
On a side note, I realised the other day that I had ‘Belle and Sebastian’, and ‘Simon and Garfunkel’ as the same band in my head. Ha.
They were: "A Day Late and a Dollar Short" and "Later Days and Better Lays," both collections of unreleased/EP/demo Queers songs. They are awesome. I also found "Suck & Bloat" by The Pink Lincolns. All in all, not a bad catch for a trip to a shitty music store.
I don’t listen to The Pink Lincolns. I shall have to check them out.
Though, I too will have to investigate The Pink Lincolns
Just bought "Slates by the Fall" 15 minutes ago. 13 euro, brand new, so it’s pretty reasonable. I think Sanctuary are going on some Fall re-release binge, because there’s a new Sancturay-era Fall CD out here each week, and they’re all cheap. Which rocks.
Also, looking forward to getting either Frank Black Francis, the new CD from Pixies frontman, whatever he is calling himself. Features 2 discs, one of his old solo Pixies demo tapes, and another of reinterpretations of Pixies songs. Am also considering purchasing Elliot Smiths new, and sadly terminal album, if I can find it anywhere.
Maybe I can try and track cds down for people and send them to them.
Also, I hope my next music purchase will be the Arcade Fire album- pretty spectacular stuff.
…it’s okay, I guess, but it’ll put me to sleep if I’m driving down the road, plus a lot of the lyrics are kind of nonsense gibberish. Like Enya. Either that, or I need to listen a little better.
Ndi: I keep hearing about this band Arcade Fire. I guess at this point I really should check them out. Can you kinda give me an idea what they sound like?
My boss sent me two of their songs so I could check them out before I bought the album. Maybe I could send said two songs to you?
I keep hearing her old stuff was much better than this new CD, but I can’t be arsed to go find one of the older CD’s and do a comparison.
Not the best way to judge an album, but it didn’t really do anything for me.
Truth be told, I’ve never been a huge Sarah McLachlan fan. I just think the song "Adia" is amazing.
Though when it comes to mainstream female singer/songwriters who were big in the early to mid 90s, my heart truly lies with Lisa Loeb.
And Ndi: Yes! By all means, send them to me! Do you like, EVER get on AIM now? I have a new SN (I don’t change them every day like you do, this is the first change in like a year! :P) now. It’s Mosrite Mecha.
Haha, that made me think of how every other line seemingly starts in that one song on that CD, "Fallen" or something.
I’m still looking for Moonspell – The Butterfly Effect.
Haha, got it ages ago!!!! ’tis brilliant!
oh, last thing….phoenix/NEBULIN – Distanza, Mortiis – The Grudge & Dark Tranquillity – Damage Done.
=) =-O O:] >:O
Recent downloads include;
Someday – Chad Kroeger
Secret Agent Man – Blues Traveler
Flowers – Moby
a) ISIS Panopticon
b) MASTODON Leviathan
c) UNEARTH The Oncoming Storm
d) VISION OF DISORDER This Is For The Bleeders
e) OPETH Morningrise
..Id recommend Leviathan to anyone, its amazing. ..Bleeders is well worth a look too, one of those releases when you wonder why you never had it before (Maybe because I seem to have a soft spot for metalcore) I think the jury’s still out on Panopticon and Morningrise.
Apers: Teenage Drama Every Kid Can Understand (The first and best Apers album)
Retarded/Apers: untitled split
Queers/Manges: Acid Beaters split
Unlovables: Crush, Boyfriend, Heartbreak and Punk Rock Club EP
Retarded: s/t
I’m most excited about The Unlovables as I only discovered them recently and from what I can tell so far they are like the coolest fucking girl punk band out there, like maybe even better than the Eyeliners, which is scary.
Three Belle and Sebastian Ep’s, The Straylight Run album (which is fucking great btw), And Against my better judgement I picked a used copy of The Von Bondies new album for like 2 bucks (its not bad though). And thats about it.
Just bought Sunsets and car crashes by the spill canvas. i love the interweb
Gots to love the 70’s British rock bands.
AERO SMITH (Big Ones)
Lovin his voice!
AVALON (Christian)
Audio Adrenilin (Christian rock)
oh yay! In the big house babay!

Im in the same boat, IF i could find the music in the shops I would Happily purchase it but Fire Bomber is notvery common in England thats why i have to do so much downloading
its pretty good, not a patch on some of the older stuff though 🙁
What’s a song they do that I would have heard? I want to be all nostalgic now. =\

Hmm… not really. I’d probably have to hear it to remember, I guess. =\

i heart you music.
It’s grown on the me the past couple of days, and I’m enjoying it a lot right now. Most of the places that I read about Les Savy Fav call them post punk, if anyone’s wandering what the sound like. They remind me some of the Pixies, and some of Trail of Dead.
I hadn’t been buying many CDs for a while, but I found three great independent music stores since moving down here for college (Athens, GA is a great music town), and so now I’m getting back into the swing of things. They didn’t have any cool music stores back home.
Fantastic.
Really, really great stuff. If any of you are willing to take the plunge into 80’s type stuff, Depeche Mode is where it’s at.
And I was just watching The Wedding Singer, which has such awesome 80s music. The Presidents of the United States of America cover of "Video Killed the Radio Star" that they play during the ending credits is so great I actually let them roll all the way.
That is a great song and a great movie though.
And i bought William Shatner’s new album "Has Been" just for laughs.
Long live Shatner!
Their third album is not-so-great, though, and that’s what Video Killed the Radio Star is on, iirc. first two are awesome. =) my first album was I, we have so much in common! they’re a real… starter band, imo.
Also: The Complete Stone Roses
people say that their first cd was better….i dunno, i think they’re both as good.
I live in the same are as them. Never met them though. 🙁
The Very Best of the Stone Roses
=)

i couldn’t actually afford to eat for the rest of the week

buffy tvs’s once more with feeling (musical)–it’s great!
dreamtheater-train of thought
the nightwish cd is great.. i really like almost everything this band has done.
the dreamtheater cd on the otherhand i was kinda disappointed in. my friend like the exact same music as me and highly recommended it so i pick a copy up. the guitar work is great and so are the drums but when he(the singer) slips in to free versing like rage against the machine,p.o.d,ect i get annoyed(nothing personal i just dont like that stuff)
i should be picking up century child by nightwish, ecliptica and winterhearts guild by sonata arctica, and destiny by stratovarius. i have heard all these albums and love them. i think i’ll buy em instead of stealing… (on a side note i’ll also prbly pick up nightfall in middle earth by blind guardian)

Two reasons why you suck. >=O
Indeed.
This is a really good CD, they haven’t just put all the songs that went to number 1, but just generally really good songs.
<3
And i’ve been listening to it twice a day since <3
I’m planning on buying Evanescence’s DVD, Anywhere but home, on Monday 😀
Chevelle – This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In
A Perfect Circle – eMOTIVe
Pearl Jam – rearviewmirror (Greatest Hits 1991-2003)
I haven’t listened to the first two yet. This makes the first Pearl Jam CD I’ve bought, I’ve just recently started to get into them.
I like do the evolution alot, for some reason.
A few years later =/
Today I bought Jethro Tull’s War Child and The Who Sell Out. Both very good and I highly recommend them.
edit: i forgot i got the new snoop dogg cd
And boy its fucking awsome. Originaly I thought it was gonna be nothing but a huge butt rock album with alot of double bass and screaming. And it was but I love it and for some weird reason can’t stop listening.

As much as I love Pearl Jam and I’ve been a fan for about 6 years, I’m not going to buy this, mainly as it’d be a waste of money, I have all the studio albums including ‘Lost Dogs.’ So sorry Pearl Jam, but I don’t think they’d want too many people to buy it anyway, as most ‘greatest hits’ are excuses for ‘cash-ins’ and there not the type of band that wants to do that……..well I hope not.
