I made a thread! When there were no others!

So let’s start with basics!

What is your favorite band and/or type of music? O:

and since she’s less band and more singer Onitsuka Chihiro is more my favorite, but does not replace KMFDM as my favorite band. yeah.

Onitsuka Chihiro is my favorite by far.
I also really like Freezepop, The Beatles, KT Tunstall, and the Pokemon 2 B A Master CD.

My favorite artists right now are Cannonball Adderly and Charles Mingus~

My favourite band at the moment is Evanescence…

I’m not so sure about them lately, but there’s just something about Amy Lee’s lyrics which I can connect with – I understand a lot of it.

Mind you, my taste changes depending what my life is like at the moment – previously, my favourite band was U2.

I like most genres, but I cannot abide rap or hip-hop.

Right now Jethro Tull is my favorite band, they have a lot of variety within their music, and you just have to respect a band that plays flute rock.

My favorite bands are Coheed and Cambria, Senses Fail, Taking Back Sunday, and Hawthorne Heights. As for a genre, it kinda varies, but I guess I’d say screamo or post-hardcore type stuff. Some of that emo is pretty good too.

If you like them, check out Tad and the Melvins if you haven’t done already. Also try out Dinosaur Jr. not always a heavy as Tad/The Melvins/AiC, but there/were a great band, infact J Mascis of Dino Jr/J Mascis + the Fog produced Tads most popular and heaviest album ‘Inhaler.’

Yes. It may have lead to a lot of trendy bands that suck, but it also lead to a lot of really good ones that never would have otherwise existed, but mostly it just changed the direction of rock ‘n’ roll and I’m much happier with this one.

I already said the Beatles, which is the group I listen to most. But Metallica (gasp) comes in second. Pretty eclectic taste, eh?

More specifically (in order of how much I listen to the album):
Beatles:
1) Revolver
2) White Album
3) Sgt. Pepper
4) Abby Road
5) Rubber Soul
(Magical Mystery Tour is cool too, but short)

Metallica:
1) And Justice for All (the best)
2) Load (nobody seems to think its awesome except me)
3) Ride the Lightning
4) Black Album
And certain songs from the rest (like Invisible Kid, Sanitarium, That thing that should not be)

The Beatles are kool, I’m doing a performance of Hard Day’s Night in music at the mo, with me on clarinet, and there will also be a trumpet player, a pianist, a trombone player and an electric guitarist (no vocalist you realise). But anyway, my fav genre is indie/garage rock. My top 5 bands at the moment are probably:

2. The Hives
3. Snow Patrol
4. The Strokes
5. Franz Ferdinand

I’m going to be seeing Regurgitator on the 13th of November. There’s a free concert to promote some RTA ‘Don’t Drive Stupid’ thingo…as far as I’m concerned it’s a day of good bands actually coming to my isolated little city.

Plus I’m going to see Jedediah soon after that, and possibly go to Homebake and Big Day Out later on. I’m gonna be all Aussie music-ed out!

I don’t know if I’d agree we make the best music, I equally like lots of stuff from the US and Canada…but I think we stack up pretty damn well considering our population.

Dead Kennedy’s (They should still be prducing records now; they are the best "acid" punk band).

The Clash (Just shows that English bands can be very good, easily the best regular punk band of the 80’s).

The Mars Volta (I mean, these are great, their guitar work is fantastic, and I like Progressive Rock anyways).

The Jam (Brilliant Indie band indeed, they are all so talented).

The Rapture (About 5% of the world have heard of this band, in short, they are a Dance come Punk band, with vocals higher than Justin Hawkins. I hate dance, but boy do I love these).

Franz Ferdinand (I only like about 3 songs by them, but these 3 songs are good).

Bob Dylan (One of, if not the best guitarist(s) in the world)

The Flaming Lips (They simply own).

I like old school punk as well. I really like the sound of bands that haven’t gone main stream. Sound more genuine and less factory made.

As for fav. band, there are tons. At the moment, Fall Out Boys, with Lucky Boys Confusion as a close second. (Both Chicago bands)

My favorite band is probably Slayer. The guitar riffs and song arrangements are always exciting, and the two drummers they’ve had are both amazing. Drum fills gallore, and I love that. The lyrics aren’t so wonderful as far as subject matter goes, but they tend to be decently written, for the most part, ignoring any obvious abuse of thesauruses and such. As for the vocal delivery, it is purely shouting and such, yes, but still has a unique sound to it. Araya isn’t copying anyone, he has his own sound, and that’s respectable. Getting into them opened the door for me to many other great bands and definitely turned my guitar playing around 360, so I "owe them" a lot.

I don’t really get what you’re trying to say. I was just commenting on how your opnions on video game music put you in the same boat as a rather snobish hipster that will criticize others based on their music tastes. As for music that I listen to, I am partial to modern rock myself but I listen to a pretty wide variety of music. In the spirit of the thread my favorite band is Tegan and Sara something that you can find out by glancing an inch or so below and looking at my signature then you can proceed to click on it and visit their website.

My current favorite music type is EDM. Trance and breakbeat especially. Some stuff I really hate, though, like hardcore dance and techno.

Before this I was into country. I still like that, but I’m just finding out about EDM and it’s so uber awesome cool to me at this point.

When it comes down to it I like any type of music as long as the particular song sounds good to me. I don’t discriminate genres, bands, etc.

My favorite music involves smooth jazz, techno, anime music (Especially Trigun), video game music (The entire Breath of Fire series) and rap. I have no specific liking to any sort of genre. I just like what comes to me. There are lots of genres that obviously bore me. (Classical…definitely classical.) Anyways, I don’t really have a #1 favorite, it really depends on the song.

You know I respect your opinions on music and that I also like the Mars Volta, but I’ll be PMing you about this overration shenanigans. I’m listening to Frances the Mute right now, although I prefer De-Loused in the Comatorium, and I can honestly say that it is good but it’s far from spectacular. Anyway, I’d probably include them in my top twenty bands but they definitely aren’t my number one, although that’s not to say I won’t get their new live album.

My favourite bands are Coldplay, The Killers, Killing Heidi, Evermore, Red Hot Chili Peppers and U2. I like mainly rock/soft rock/alternative rock, but I don’t mind SOME pop songs. I also like 1 ONLY trance song at the moment.
I am sorry to those who do like it, but I thoroghly dislike punk rock, wannabe, tryhard bands. SOME Good Charlotte is okay but Green Day and Simple Plan are just plain crap, wannabe, annoying sorta bands. That’s just my opinion though. 🙂

anything that is complicated. i dislike any straightforward minor/major jibberish, wich rules out -pretty much- all popmusic, reggae, stuff like that.

i’d dig any musician that tries to make something different, and im not talking "hey’arr that drummar in AC/DC be one y’arr crazi skinbeatar! arr!", but most kinds of progressive stuff, from jazz, through prog, to death metal. from hiromi uehara and chick corea, through mr bungle and cynic, to meshuggah and spawn of possession.

Been a HUGE In Flames fan for the past few years (Not just their newer stuff, but a lot of their old stuff as well… Man Made God. Best. Song. Ever.

But of all time, stuff i STILL listen to and enjoy, Iron Maiden and Metallica, mostly their older stuff tho.

My favorite musician is Jaye Barnes Luckett, she has a band even though she is the only member called Poperratic. She’s most well known for doing the music for the movie May directed by Lucky Mckee and starring Angela Bettis. And some of you might know of the XBox comedy/horror film short Blue Like You for which she also did the music for.

I like many forms of music as you can see by looking at the "General Music" link in my signature. But the type of music that I most consistantly listen to aside from soundtracks & scores is gothic metal. To pick only one band as my number one favorite is pretty tough but if I had to it would be a toss up between Evanesence & After Forever.

Pink Floyd, KISS and the Ramones have always been my three favorites.

Pink Floyd and KISS are the first two bands I really started to like, my dad played them constantly. And the summer going into 8th grade I began listening to the Ramones non-stop. Since then its always been these three bands that I love the most.

I posted this in a game of Walrus I ran a few months ago (participants submit songs to themed categories and the host ranks them) and I think it roughly holds:

You’re golden: aesthetic metal, post-rock, chiptune, folk punk, vaporwave, legit alt country, vgm

You’re probably fine: psychedelic with balls, post-hardcore, drone, noise, indie whatever, hip-hop, electronic stuff, stoner rock and metal, post-metal, non-theatrical avantgarde, folk metal, black metal, tech death metal, bluegrass, classical, folk, blues, jazz, most genres with a -wave suffix

Middle of the pack: lots of stuff

Good luck: superficial metal, pop country, hard rock, rock ‘n’ roll, mainstream punk, pop that isn’t supposed to suck, ska, "prog metal" as a stereotype, theatrical stuff, songs from musicals, power metal that isn’t exactly Blind Guardian, anything that gets labeled "world music" by choice, R&B, meathead shit, heavy music that actually attempts to sing well, probably anything that has ever been mentioned in Rolling Stone

You’re just getting a 0: anything that sounds remotely reminiscent of Guns n’ Roses, AC/DC, or the Steve Miller Band. Also your favorite 80s metal band sucks.

I think I can safely call my favorite band Boris based on 15 years of running last.fm; hard to name a second after that without naming 30.
