For most annoying character I give it to Yuffie and Cid. I dont know, but they werent much help to me at all (then again I never equipped materia to anyone but my three main characters..)

Well the most hated character is cait sith most annoying is yuffie and most loved would be sephiroth for me.

Some ones stuck on themselves(just kidding).

hey shinra turk, ive added you to my buddy list. i dont know why though…you just remind me of someone i once knew… o well! 😀 😉 for me the worst would be cait sith cuz he just has really bad attacks and that limit that kills everyone is pointless and stupid. i agree that the most annoying character is yuffie, but she has one of the coolest ultimate weapons in the game because it powers up when the enemy is at a higher level than her :p! and she can be one of the strongest ones on your team. barett just seemed to get weaker as the game went on. vincent is definitely one of the stongest and hee’s just plain cool. those are my opinions.

The only characters in FFVII that I even remotely liked were Cait Sith and Red XIII. I could give detailed explanations of why I hated most of the others, but I suspect no one wants to hear it.

Execpt for Cloud having green eyes you’re right. They’re actually blue, but he’s hot alright!

I like the charcaters… Yuffie, Tifa, Aerith, Cloud, and Red XIII the best.

I dislike Barret and Cid. I like Aeris, Nanaki(Red XIII), and Cloud. I love Yuffie for some reason. Cait Sith is average to me.

How come everyone thinks Yuffie’s an abnocsius snob, when she’s really cool. Her power is actually strong. I use her Cid and Cloud after Aeris is killed. It seems this team fits me alot more.

Well, this is a love/hate character thread and it would be TIFA!!! She’s a big fake!!! Aeris didn’t suck but she was totally COOL!! Better than a lying, manipulative, stuck-up fake moron like Tifa. She’s not really Cloud’s friend..that was all lies. They just grew up in the same town and not even childhood friends like she claims. She’s not really an Avanlanche member like she claims since she didn’t know crap about its members or their dreams like Barret says, she’s an irresponsible person who makes a 4 year old girl watch the bar (Barret must be really stupid to let a moron like her take care of Marlene), and she wasn’t really Aeris’s friend. That uncaring moron sent Aeris’s to her doom to Shinra when she knew that Aeris was in danger. If you want to say Aeris was uncaring, the most uncaring person of all times was Tifa and her alone. She was a spoil selfish brat who only thought about herself. At least Yuffie was better than that and wasn’t heartless like her.

Couldn’t of said it better myself! It was Tifa who helped Cloud regain himself, she helped him get the Mako poisoning out of him. No one can deny all that help she gave him!

Tifa apologized and made only one childhood social mistake so cut her some slack! It’s no better than stealing! Everyone makes some social mistakes once in a while. Well, I don’t hate any character. Each character is very unique in there own way!

The least character I liked was Cait Sith. I just thought he sucked in battle. I liked his personality though.

The best characters are Tifa, Cloud(I beleive he loved Tifa the most) and Aerith!

i disagree i think he loved Airith more because that is wat motivated him to revenge. of course if it had been Tifa he would have sought revnge but not as much as for airith.

Well, not exactly. If Tifa was a true friend, she wouldn’t had asked Aeris to get Marlene, knowing that Aeris is in danger by Shinra. She knew all along that Shinra is after Aeris but what does she do, send her to get Aeris so she could keep an eye on Cloud and have him all for herself. And you say they were friends, I don’t think it even defies that so call ‘friendship’. It seems pretty low for a friend to do that. And she wasn’t even a good friend to Cloud at all. Avanlanche member, yeah right. If that’s so true, then explain to me why Barret would say such a thing about her not knowing anything about the members or their dreams. That’s a point taken that she wasn’t really a true member of Avanlanche. Independant? No. I seem to recall she was saved by Cloud at least four times, compare to Aeris and she lets a 4 year old girl run her bar. Oh yeah, real responsible. I don’t even know why Barret would even let a loser like Tifa take care of her, knowing that she’s an irresponsible person who sent Aeris after her when it was her job to watch Marlene since Barret trust her. anit-Aerith and Anti-Tifa fans, could you explain what you have against the character which you hate? With facts? I really want to know, because maybe I’m missing somehting since I’m one out of about 5 people who like both Aerith and Tifa.

The way I like to see it is that there is no reason to hate either one of them. They both have there positives and negatives as do humans. I think Tifa is sorry for the mistakes she made and at least needs to be forgiven.

I agree with TifaGirl. Tifa made one mistake, and now people hold it against her. She didn’t do anything else wrong except for that one thing, and she did it out of love.

Aeris didn’t do anything wrong, that I can think of. All she did was save the world, along with Tifa. If they can get along, so can the fans.

ShinobiYuffie, that’s not true. Tifa never ordered Aerith to get Marlene to a safe place. She asked as a favor, and there’s a difference between a favor and an order. If she really wasn’t her friend, she never would’ve convinced Cloud to go find Aerith and save her when she was in bind. Or the fact that when Aerith was held captive at Shinra HQ, she never would’ve worried about Aerith when she said "I hope Aerith is alright". Huh huh huh!? Your character bashing needs to stop. Tifa also cried her heart out after Aerith’s death. That’s solid proof that they were the best of friends.

Well it doesn’t matter anyways, cuz they aren’t real. Isn’t it sad how we obsess over fictional characters? Not to me..at least. But when someone hates a fictional character theres no reasen to get pissed off. As Yuffie said, it’s a love hate thread and everyone has their preference wheather they like it or not…You can’t make someone like Barney just because you think it’s cooler than Teletubbies…But the other person likes teletubbies..

If you can’t deal with it then probably you shouldn’t be browsing in this thread. Its a love/hate thread. Everyone, including you, has a character(s) they love or hate. I seem to recall that Cait Sith was voted as the worst hated character and you also agree with that. Don’t tell me that you don’t at least have a character that you don’t hate, everyone has at least one or some characters that they don’t like, if its from videogames, anime, or manga. And not everyone will agree with what you say or love. I hate Tifa as a character, so deal with it. If you’re telling me not to bash on Tifa, you’re just a hypocrite. I seem to remember from broswing old threads of you bashing on Asuka in Eva.
Tifa knew that Aeris was in danger by Shinra and yet still ask her to get Marlene. That’s not what a real friend would do. Tifa knew the situation with Aeris but yet sent her off to her doom. That’s for Tifa’s own personal gain of keeping an eye on Cloud. I seem to recall that Barret put a lot of trust in Tifa on protecting Marlene. Aeris proved to be the betterhalf with responsibility, something Tifa isn’t capable of.

don’t forget that at the same time tifa’s friends were being killed in the tower. she couldn’t take care of all of them. so she sent aeris to the place that was slightly less dangerous: her bar since shinra forces were in the tower. as i see it she was faced by two very dangerous choices and she chose to help her friends. hey think about what you would do ih her place. (kind of hard i know since this is a videogame but just try). besides shinra was after aeris since the beginning and aeris still came out and walked freely without concerns. to her this was a piece of cake. she just happened to get caught this time. it wouldn’t make much difference since the shinra knew where she lived anyway.

and when aeris went off alone to the city of the ancients tifa said that they should go help her while cloud was having a nervous breakdown and was afraid of sephiroth. doesn’t that mean anything?

Hmm…I have to say that I agree with you, Shinobiyuffie. Everyone do has a character they love or hate. No questions ask.
I’ll just have to say that I don’t really have a deep hate to some of the characters, I hapen to love and like all the characters in FF7. That’s what got the story going in the first place but my deepest love for the characters would always be Cloud, Aeris, Yuffie, and Vincent. Of course I like the other characters too, like without Cait Sith, they wouldn’t get the black materia and if Sephi. didn’t went evil, there be no cool villian.;)

People! Look at the thread name then look at what the topic has been for the last page…. A little off subject aren’t we? I think shinobiyuffie (is that her name?) has every right to hate Tifa considering this is a I love/hate/think this character is hot thread. This is not the Tifa vs. Aeris thread.

ShinobiYuffie, I don’t hate any of the characters in FFVII. Cait Sith is just the least playable character I liked because I didn’t think he was that good in gameplay, but I also like him for the good deeds he did.

Yes, I do hate Asuka and maybee I am being a hypocrite, but as long as I’m defending the characters I love, I don’t mind. Defend any character you love that I dislike, maybe I won’t mind and be less hypocritical.( but from here you’ll have to do it via PM)

You’re right god is dead. I’m sick of debating constantly for a while! It does get old, and it does get tiring of hearing the same old war that’s been going on for 7 years now. I’m sticking with loving characters, and never hated to many characters. Besides, hate is a strong word, so why can’t we just use ‘I dislike’ instead, that way the peace doesn’t break.

I stayed on topic and did not need to be constantly hounded by TifaRinoa on who I shouldn’t hate, I’m a moron, I have no right…..and then stupid. So if you wanna make me look like the bad person, just think twice before pointing fingers and saying that its my fault. Wow, these arguments are pretty heavy. I replied before so ill say it again. Cloud is my favorite, followed by Tifa, Vincent, Sephiroth then Aerith.

Also, shinobiyuffie not trying to start anything with you, but after reading this thread, I can see you only use the same argument. Also, sure its a love/hate thread. but your hatred is a bit too.. i dont know, deep? for a video game a character. face it, tifa and aerith arent real, and their love for cloud isnt either.

I don’t think any of us would like to be constantly hounded on who we shouldn’t hate and then calling ‘you’ stupid because you see it the other way. And rereading it on the other note, shinobiyuffie never called everyone hypocrites, only those who kept constantly hounding at her to like Tifa. Just leave it alone since its getting nowhere for even I have to agree with shinobiyuffie that noone has the right to engrave their own perspective on the character they hate. If you can’t even respect that person’s response of who they hate and constantly hound at them for being wrong, you’re no better than other people who flame at others.

thats very true. I agree with that, the fact that a lot of the people here were attacking shinobiyuffie and calling her names because she had a rightful opinion. I know I stated mine above but I did not flame her, I questioned her as it didnt seem correct in my view.

but since the thread is love/hate then she has every right to hate and we have every right to hate. So we cant argue against each other..

Well, I never tried to change shinobiyuffie’s mind, no. She did accuse me of that. I kept trying to point out Tifa’s positives. And I kept trying to point out every character in all fiction has there positives, even Tifa.

That fact I called her stupid was, me going overboard. That was out of anger because I got so sick of her repeating her hate of my most loved character. Immature? Yes. But every adult knows, even adults lose control of there anger at one point to another. It’s just normal human emotions.

Shinobiyuffie, I never said "CHANGE YOUR OPINIONS ON TIFA", I just want you to know that she’s not such a bad girl(at heart).

If you keep repeating why, I will keep explain good facts about her. You don’t have to look at her positives, but it’s also denial that she has any. I may dislike Asuka, but damn I know she even has positives. Characters in anime/FF may not be real, but after 7 years of experiance of watching them, they are based on human emothions. Characters to me, are like man made people. I just know when not to go to overboard thinking they’re real.

Both of them brought up the same points/agruments/statements over and over. S.Yuffie was not the only one to bring up the same thing. From a neutral perspective, both of them are at fault. Yes, they made good points, expressed their views courageously..but somewhere in between, it went downhill and ugly. Is it not in the same way when we don’t like something that our own perspective that we envision enables us to look at it in OUR own way? Sure, maybe they have good points or maybe not, but it is how WE see it that makes us believe in that perspective. Maybe S.Yuffie did look at the good points, who knows, but her own perspective still overpower those points. S.Y. has reasons for that. Yes, I agree that we don’t know S.Y. but its the same for S.Y. not knowing any of us. We don’t really know why she hate Tifa…I mean the real reason of why. There’s no such thing as someone not harboring a deep hate because everyone harbors that sort of feeling for something,a place, person, thing…just anything. But isn’t that what makes us unique individuals? We learn from our past mistakes, we learn new things, create new memories in our lives and maybe, just maybe, it is those things that mature us to realize what we did was wrong and to correct it.

Wouldn’t it mean that we saw things differently and maybe you meant no harm but that’s not how the other see it. We really have no right to infringe judgement on another or tell them our perspective without considering that maybe they thought about it but still don’t see it as you.

It may just be me, but I like to do wishful thinking of hoping both of you apoligize since both of you went overboard. Both of you were unique because it came from your own perspectives and that’s what make you who you are. If the characters were to be real, would they not want to be friends no more with either of you? Wouldn’t they frown upon such quarrel? If your love is strong enough for the characters/things/places/people/something you love, than that love is strong enough to overpower all the negatives and makes you nod that you heard their side and respected it but know in your in your mind that your heart/soul/mind is set to it and nothing can break that bond.

Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith, are my favorites! I don’t really dislike like any character, but Scarlet.

The least playable characters I like are Yuffie and Cait Sith. They never were that good on my game. Yuffie’s cool, but I just like Aerith and Tifa better :D. Yuffie’s still cool though.

Aeris is a great character. She’s kind, supportive, and always pushing on the group when they’re feeling down. She, in a way, I think, represents hope.

Well, not exactly. If Tifa was a true friend, she wouldn’t had asked Aeris to get Marlene, knowing that Aeris is in danger by Shinra. And you say they were friends, I don’t think it even defies that so call ‘friendship’. It seems pretty low for a friend to do that. And she wasn’t even a good friend to Cloud at all. Avanlanche member, yeah right. If that’s so true, then explain to me why Barret would say such a thing about her not knowing anything about the members or their dreams. That’s a point taken that she wasn’t really a true member of Avanlanche. Independant? No. I seem to recall she was saved by Cloud at least four times, compare to Aeris and she lets a 4 year old girl run her bar. Oh yeah, real responsible. I don’t even know why Barret would even let a loser like Tifa take care of her, knowing that she’s an irresponsible person who sent Aeris after her when it was her job to watch Marlene since Barret trust her. And the outcome, Aeris got capture.
Tifa was heartless and only thought about her gains and herself. I don’t really give a damn about her and whateva you say won’t change a dime about what I think of her. Actually killing Aeris was a good thing (in the jap version) because when iplayed ff7 japenese poorly translated version, there was quite a battle and quite an FMV to Revive Aeris (the worst part is that after u see that 2-3 second glimpse of aeris in the church, and if u fail to revive her at that moment, you gotta do everything over again) and plus, you got an AWESOME item (and when i say AWESOME, i mean sweet sweet sweeeeeeeeet holy crap this item is the best!) if ur able to steal/mug from the boss there (very hard to steal)

Yes, I think people hate him because he was just someone who joined the team and then betrayed them, but he did help the team and without him the story wouldnt continue as he stayed behind and destroyed his suit to get the Black Materia.

Okay here is my take. Cait Sith is kinda dumb, I mean it’s like having a teddy bear fighting beside you nothing but stuffin.
However Reeve on the other hand, that is another story. He is probably the only interesting Shinra Employee, not counting the turks(they are cool), but he does what he has to. He is like a double agent fighting for three sides.
He helps you, he helps Shinra, he betrays you, and then he helps you again by betraying Shinra, which eventually allows him to help himself.
Pretty complex character when you think about it. We don’t give him enough credit.

Reeve is a great guy, I actually liked him, and he look hot too. heh

Sephiroth – He’s a puppet and his story is horrible. They expect us to believe that after a lifetime of servitude and a general kindness, a man goes crazy because he reads some papers? Why did he even have to go on that mission? Does it seem like the mission a high-ranking general in the Shinra Military would have to go on? Also, why did he so believe the records?

Either is a terrible plot development, or he was a complete slave to Jenova’s will.

Cloud – Spikey-headed little dumbass with a big sword that covered his terrible plot. A plot that is distorted by the hero’s own lack of fortitude and courage is a bad plot.

As for Sephiroth’s sudden madness, I agree with you that that doesn’t seem to be the kind of mission you would send your top General on, however…the whole point of Sephiroth not knowing who his real parents were was that eventually he would believe that he was an Ancient and he would lead the Shinra to wherever the Promised Land was, if it existed.

Sephiroth had never been to Nibelheim in his adult life, I believe, and when he came near enough to Jenova, was when she/he/it was able to reach out and take Sephiroth’s mind. Although one of the things that I get a kick out of the most is the fact that Sephiroth goes wacko all of a sudden, but hey, he’s a cool villain. More’s the pity.

I like Hojo and Rufus, too. The great thing about all of the main FFVII villains is that you could have them in their own stories with just them as the villains and the story could still be great.

The reason I don’t like Vincent is because the dude’s an idiot. Don’t listen to him. Cait Sith is a lot of fun, in my opinion. I love the scene when he tells the fortunes and gets them wrong (or does he?). I don’t use him to fight a lot, but I like him as an rpg character, and I looooove Reeve.

Yuffie is a cool character, my second favorite, in fact. I think her father needs to give her a good spanking, but other than that, I love her. She’s the cutest thing!

well…if i may defend vincent, he is trapped in a room, and is sleeping on sins he believes he has commited, later on you figure out, the women he loved, was inpregnated, and the child in here whomb was used as a test subject, which came out as sephiroth….now how is this Vincents fault? well he believes, it is his sin, because he just stood aside and let this happen, when he knew it was immoral and disghusting. after *THAT* girl died (I forgot her name!), he starts to pick a fight with hojo for killing her by doing this to her baby, he gets shot my Hojo, and is used as an experiment (allowing him to do his limits, and his robotic left arm), he is kept in that locked room, and sleeps on a terrible sin of letting his love be killed, when he could of done something (he believes).

when you come along, and infrom him about what sephiroth has been doing, he feels it is his fault, because he let sephiroth be born, now that he knows this, he feels as if he has more sins to sleep on, only, he then realizes that he can do something to help stop what he believes he has caused…

anyway…i’m not sure whats not logical about his character, he makes sense to me…i admit he is a very emo fellow..but..oh well

the three characters i always used in FFVII, were Cloud, Vincent, and Yuffie!…but i had a problem with cloud and yuffie…they never wanted to learn their 4th limit skill…@_@, Vincent learned his,but..oh well…i was depressed cause it took forever for me to win clouds limit manual…and he didn’t want to learn it……any way…if i had a choice, i would replace Cloud with Red XII…

Point taken. I’ll take back a couple of the things that I said about Vincent. But I will maintain that there was precious little he could have done about it. To tell you the truth, I’m rather tired of the "golden boy" image everyone seems to want to give Vincent. He was a TURK. You know, kidnappers, assassins… I think if he had tried to do anything to stop the experiment, someone would gotten to him. If not Hojo, Dr. Gast or the Shinra would’ve. Such an important experiment was worth the life of one Turk. But I suppose he would kick himself for not trying.

"That girl"’s name was Lucrecia. Here’s a funny thing: The fate of Lucrecia has long been debated by fan fiction authors (like myself). It boils down to three theories. One, that the Jenova cells killed Lucrecia soon after she gave birth to Sephiroth and that’s why she passed out in the flashback. Two, (this is the one I adhere to) that she simply passed out in the flashback and was sent away to or left for the waterfall, and sometime in the thirty years between Sephiroth’s birth and disappearance she died of despair or starvation and it’s her spirit that they see in the waterfall. After all, she said, referring to Sephiroth, "I know, like myself, that he physically cannot die so easily." So the drop-dead thing in the first theory comes into question. Three, that she died with Sephiroth or Jenova when AVALANCHE defeated them. But this theory is called into question because it doesn’t explain why she’s not in the waterfall when you go to retrieve Vincent’s Limit Break and Death Penalty. Darn Squaresoft for being so vague.

Anyway, that’s my take on it. I write fan fiction, so I tend to read into it a little more than perhaps I should. You should see my theory on Hojo. Ay yai yai.

Anyway, I love Yuffie too. She’s my number two favorite character in the game (Sephiroth, of course, being number one) It’s funny how you say that it took you forever to get her limit break. She was the first one to get hers when I played it, Red XIII being second.

Here’s my basic top ten favorite list (subject to change) from one to ten: Sephiroth, Yuffie, Cloud, Hojo, Red XIII, Reeve/Cait Sith, Cid, Tifa, Rufus, and Barrett.

(reads other posts) Seems like Heidegger and Palmer are on the bottom of the barrel here. I really don’t like or hate them. For me, they’re just "there."

Yeah thats very true. Aeris doesn’t fit with Cloud and Tifa does. I never thought about that Lord of the Rings idea though. Similar except Cloud is so much cooler than Aragorn.

Sephiroth is the coolest character, followed by Aeris. Cait Sith is the WORST character. I hate him, someone please kill him!!

Cait Sith is an okay character, I think, but he’s absolutely useless in battles. They tried to make him a Setzer (with the slot power and all), but Setzer is too much cooler. (Setzer’s from FFVI, in case you didn’t know) It wouldn’t be hard to kill him, just dismantle him; he’s only a robot, you know. I really like the guy who built him, Reeve. Reeve’s a cool guy, though he’s with Shinra initially. But he really doesn’t like the things Shinra does!

Now, I as far as the "Cloud is cooler than Aragorn" goes, I’d have to say that for the movie Aragorn, that’s sadly true. Now, the Aragorn in the books would be up for debate. BUT, that’s another topic for another forum.

I don’t think they’re sexually pleasing either; I have never said I wanted to date Sephiroth or Cloud (if I wanted to live, I wouldn’t). But they’re interesting characters, and have a strange, certain charm. I think it’s the fact they’re so tough and cool that makes the girls go "eeeekkkk!!!"

When girls say "Sephiroth’s cute!" what they really mean is that he would be cute in real life. They don’t mean that they think pixel pointed noses and chins are cute. Get over yourself.

Oh, yeah, Yuffie. I think Yuffie adds a lot of life to the story. I think her lackadaisical or naive remarks to the situations at hand are extremely hilarious, like on the cargo ship when she says, "I can’t go! I don’t even like Sephiroth!" or when she says something like, "Let’s go get some Materia!" and the situation usually is extremely dire and everyone else seems to realize it except her. But give her a break; she’s just a kid.

I dont know why a big % of people hate Cait Sith. He’s pretty cool and fun ! He look so dumb and that’s why I love it. I dont know if I’m the only here, but, FFVII was my first FF, after the FFI. I change all the names of my characters. Did the majority change them ou let them at their originaly names ?

I believe her name is ‘Scarlet’, either that or you’re thinking of ‘Elena’ of the Turks. Personally, I’m a huge fan of Sephiroth!!! FF7 was the first FF I encountered, and I was Awe-stricken by his power in Cloud’s memories at Kalm town. I also find his actions, although viciuosly ruthless and mercilessly cold-blooded, to be justified. A strong character. I was so stoked that I got to face him 1 on 1 in the end, my main ambition throughout the whole game was to defeat him with Cloud 1 on 1, and I got my wish. I also enjoyed the battle with Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts, along with the ‘Squall and Yuffie’ battle, and the battle with Cloud.

Aeris is a nice girl, but I just don’t like her with Cloud. Cloud/Aeris fans are not gonna like me after this, but I always compared the Tifa/Cloud/Aeris triangle to the Arwen/Aragorn/Eowyn (in that order) triangle in the LOTR movies (not books, MOVIES). In my mind (you can disagree with me if you want; it’s your life) Tifa was the one that Cloud was meant to be with, and Aeris was a "temporary distraction," so to speak. But she really was a sweet girl! Not to say I hate her! Not at all. She just didn’t have a "Faramir" (Eowyn’s guy).

Anyways my favorite characters from FFVII are definitely Vincent and Reno. Vincent for quite obvious reasons and Reno because no matter how badly he got beat by Cloud and the gang he continued to fight against them, that is till the movie. Cloud and Tifa. Tifa gets useless in terms of her physical attack (why did they make premium glove like that?!). So I usually have Cid and Red, they’re powerful.

I hate Aeris, although admittedly in AC, she wasn’t that bad. Probably because of less screen time.

Vincent is my all time fave though with Reno a close second and Cloud third. Yazoo is also my fave outta the SHM.

Mad props to Cloud! He had attitude. He has serious limits. Best of all, he has a huge ass sword that crushes anything/anyone in his way. Omnislash is overall the best attack in the game. (In graphics and in power.) KotR has my respect, but Omnislash is harder to get and it can essentially kill most enemies/some bosses in one hit. And if he has Mime and no one else does anything….heeheehee…it’s mayham time!!! Etenal Omnislashes, can you think of anything better? Anyways, Vincent, Aeris Cid tie as second, but Cloud overwhelms ’em all in brute force.

Well, this is a love/hate character thread and it would be TIFA!!! She’s a big fake!!! Aeris didn’t suck but she was totally COOL!! Better than a lying, manipulative, stuck-up fake moron like Tifa. She’s not really Cloud’s friend..that was all lies. They just grew up in the same town and not even childhood friends like she claims. She’s not really an Avanlanche member like she claims since she didn’t know crap about its members or their dreams like Barret says, she’s an irresponsible person who makes a 4 year old girl watch the bar (Barret must be really stupid to let a moron like her take care of Marlene), and she wasn’t really Aeris’s friend. That uncaring moron sent Aeris’s to her doom to Shinra when she knew that Aeris was in danger. If you want to say Aeris was uncaring, the most uncaring person of all times was Tifa and her alone. She was a spoil selfish brat who only thought about herself. At least Yuffie was better than that and wasn’t heartless like her.
Tifa can rot in her own secrets and lies.

Sheesh, I resent all that about Tifa. Tifa didn’t know that Aeris was in danger. As for her being an irresponsible moron who makes a four-year-old watch a bar, that’s more of a video game nuance than something you should take into account for someone’s character. And the reason Tifa let Cloud go on in his delusions is that she knew that he was disturbed, if not crazy, and she didn’t know how to deal with it when he knew things that (she thought) he wasn’t supposed to know. She was probably scared of how he would react if she attempted to tell him the truth.

As for Tifa being selfish, I don’t know many girls who would’ve stuck with a retarded, drooling young man who suffered from Mako poisoning to try to nurse him back to health. The thought makes me shudder. That put Tifa ahead of Aeris in my book.

my favourite characters

– cloud strife – you start the game as him, as an ex elite corporation soldier, now a mercenary who’s hired by terrorists to take out reactors run by the powerful fascist corporation. AWESOME. then of course everything goes nuts and when you find out everything it gets even better IMO. he tries to join SOLDIER to impress Tifa, fails and becomes a shinra grunt, but then gets to go back to nibelheim with his powerful friend zack, who did make it to SOLDIER 1st class, and his hero sephiroth, the greatest of the SOLDIERs, anyway. when it all kicks off and seph goes mad, he ends up playing a pivotal role in stopping seph. then shinra’s experiments and his escape thanks to zack lead to FF7 and beyond. he needs a lot of help – aeris, tifa, avalanche etc. – but eventually gathers the strength and will to face sephiroth and defeat him, saving the world – and himself. he does it again 2 years later in AC! great troubled hero

– sephiroth – THE ultimate bad guy. once the most powerful of all shinra’s SOLDIER’s, he goes mad when he sees Gast and Hojo’s (his dad!!) misguided research. he’s actually the son of hojo and lucrecia, infused with jenova cells at his conception. ends up in the lifestream where he absorbs the knowledge of the cetra and becomes even more powerful. manages to operate his plans by controlling jenova tainted people using his will, and intends to destroy everything. works in concert with, through, or is a puppet for jenova. he never asked to be born the way he was! awesome music too. my favourite villain. genesis fuck off.

– aeris gainsborough – the coolest girl in the game, she’s the perfect angel figure, cute, calm, intelligent, with danger following her everywhere because of who and what she is. the last descendant of a true cetra, she is also powerful in that she can talk to the planet and indeed actually continues to help her new friends after her untimely demise (maybe not in FF7 – i dont know i havent finished it – but certainly in AC). amazing music too, beautiful. i dont dislike tifa (in fact she’s great too) but aeris is the best girl on the game. she also is born into a life of danger and significance she never asked for and i think she deals with it admirably. great limit breaks too. the website these forums are for has an article on why aeris’ death is pointless which i have a few arguments both for and against. awesome character either way

– vincent valentine – an ex turk and shinra employee who falls in love with lucrecia – only to see her go off with hojo and conceive sephiroth. DoC goes into this in great detail, but vincent ends up incapacitated and also experimented on by Hojo, before going to sleep in a sealed coffin in the basement of nibelheim mansion for 30 years, before the crew find him and he joins to try and find lucrecia again. excellent character, powerful because of experimentation, riddled with guilt and holding secrets and seemingly knowing everything as well, very knowledgable about stuff, and cool and reserved.

– red xiii – nanaki comes from a cool village, cosmo, is the vanguard of a race of long-lived, intelligent, warrior guardian beasts, has brave and awesome parents, his mother and seto, and a cool adoptive grandfather bugenhagen, has cool limit breaks, is a fierce, powerful dog/lion/beast, looks awesome and was my favourite character until i found out more about cloud, sephiroth, aeris and met the newer characters. i love nanaki and i think he gets some shit lines in the game at times and is underused in the film.

characters i hate

– scarlet – nazi cunt.

– heidegger – fat cunt.

– rufus – nasty bastard who takes over from his arsehole dad when he dies and does a great job at being a dictator. great CHARACTER, but i hate him because of that.

– president shinra – same thing, good character who uses money and propaganda to run the world, cops it when sephiroth comes round.

– don corneo – i had a save game during the yuffie-nicks-our-materia bit which i replayed hundreds of times to see that cunt die. how satisfying

– cait sith – a fortune telling toy cat on a giant robot moogle controlled by shinra spy turned useful double agent when he sympathises? great, if only cait sith didnt carry on being a character in its own right after you found this out. nice limit breaks but for fuck sake, its a disposable TOY. its not a fucking character. i always refused to have the thing in my party.

final point to make is i think pretty much every other character in the game is ace, and the top 5 stand out for me, which does nothing to detract from everyone else. the turks are cool and ruthless and skilled at what they do, and its cool when you team up with them in wutai and see them in the pub there and in junon as well. everyone in the party is great in different ways apart from cait sith (cid’s brilliantly arrogant, yuffie’s brilliantly thieving and never loses sight of her own agenda + she’s well hard, tifa’s an awesome girl and helpful to cloud, and hard as nails, barret’s great and has been through a lot too) hojo’s a brilliant mad scientist, gast and ifalna and lucrecia are great tragic characters, palmer is hilarious, jenova’s a great evil being, the cetras and all the minor characters around the world are cool – put simply they’re all great and add to the story.

they were just my opinions.

i never mentioned reeve. after finding out what cait sith really was, it could have continued the story as a non playable character like bugenhagen. or just never been playable. it was a bit cheap that one of your party was a toy that if destroyed could be replaced by another exactly the same as it. which happened once.

Both had a lot of activity in the story actually. I mean Reeve only goes undercover as Cait Sith, steals the keystone, kidnaps Marlene to blacmail you into keeping him, then becomes your spy on Shinra in the fight against evil. Also, he gave his stuffed body to obtain the black Materia, which Cloud promptly loses. How’s that for heroism? 😉

Anyway, your line that he ‘was just kind of there’ is a tad misleading.

Yuffie, well, OK her part of the plot is optional, but still good fun, especially seeing Don Corneo get his comeuppence!

Most of ff9 are relatively likeable.
