I love the card game on both FF8 and FF9, but I have no idea what the numbers on the cards of FF9 means, so could someone here explain to me what the numbers mean, (or know a website that explains it)?

I don’t remember very much (because its been a long time since I played) But I think it is the defense of the card, power and all that sort of things, but I don’t know what it does really I always forget, damn! Sorry but I can’t really be of help.

I think there is a good FAQ on this at GameFAQ’s.

Anyways, let’s say a card’s number is 4P86.

The first number (4) indicates it’s attack. This value, along with the other numbers, can be anywhere from 0-F.

The next letter (P) symbolizes what type of attack it is. I’ll explaing this later.

The third character (8) indicates it’s physical defense.

The 4th character (6) indicates it’s magical defense.

Now let’s say the 4P86 card attacks a 7M23 card. Because the attacking card type is phsyical, the attack of 4 attacks the phsyical defense of 2. 4 > 2 so you should take that card. But there’s random luck involved so you could actually lose despite having a greater number. So P cards attack physical defense, M cards attack magical defense, X cards attacks the weaker of the two defenses, and A cards attack the weaker of all 3 numbers (including the attack).

Hope I helped.

There’s a good Tetra Master FAQ in this forum right here. (http://forums.ffshrine.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16055)
