OK, so which is, in your opinion, the better of the two major types of FF game types- "classics" (I- VI) or the more modern, 3D games (VII- XI)?

I personally am torn between the two, because whilst the eaarlier games such as IV, V and VI have grwat gameplay, the storylines in the later FFs seem more complex and characters more complex.

Opinions?

older games on older systems are (in general) a lot more fun and harded to beat. but that’s just my opinion.

Classic

Even though I came to Final Fantasy late (Playstation era, FFTactics, FFIX, FFX)

I actually prefer the older games: (FFI, FFIV and FFVI to be precise)

I can’t stand most of the later generation fans. And most of the later generation games are too easy and unorganized so they fall into the mediocre games for me.

The only ones I think are actually worthy in the later generation are FFIX and tactics, (which take their style from the classic games anyway.)

And I never played FFXI, so no opinion there.

My first impression of the average modern Final Fantasy Fan:

"I likes da moodern gaems better caus da older ones suck caus they have bad glaphics and are too hard!

The nightmares will never go away.

Why does there have to be a debate between the two? =\

But, it is classics all the way for me~

You basically said everything I was going to say. Though I love FFV as well, it’s just hilarious.

I prefer some of the classic FF games, and some of the modern ones. But I think that the old ones are better than the new ones, because they don’t use graphics as their focal point to try and sell the game. The classic games were more about storyline, while the modern ones are more about graphics and such.

How can you even cast a vote on which is better if you haven’t played the old ones? You’re not qualified to say which is better without playing the classics. :p

I think the two only particularly great FF Classics are FFVI and FFV.

The graphics have improved, but it doesn’t mean that the storylines have.

So i like both the eras i supose.

Overall I like the classic games better, but my favorite is ffVII. I like all of the classics, but I only like a few of the modern ones.

Generally speaking, I prefer classic games. I doubt any new game is going to come out that even compares to Final Fantasy VI.

A lot of my favorite games in the FF series are on the playstation and up though. Save VII, they all have really fantastic stories, and I love being able to watch FMVs. And I think X and X-2 had the best gameplay in the series.
