I have 2 fighters, 1 Red mage, 1 White mage.
1.Red Mage
1.White Mage
1.Balck Mage
That’s right. Fighter, Black Mage, Thief, and Red Mage.
If anything, it gave my house mate and I something amusing to talk about whilst I was playing through it. 🙂
I should try the game with 4 White Mages though. I hear it’s pretty crazy to get through with that.
1 – Joe
2 – Bob
3 – Ken
4 – Jay
I suppose my favorite is either fighter, thf, white mage, black mage, or fighter, blackbelt, white mage, black mage.
Still, tis a dream of mine to beat the game with an all white mage party.
has it ever been done?
eh, someone’s beat Super Mario Bros. 3 in 10 minutes. I’m sure it’s been done.
Still, it’ll be a nice little personal accomplishment should I ever manage to pull it off.
1 Red Mage
1 Monk
1 Black Mage
Oh yeah one more thing Are you supposed to equip something on
them first or thats not possible to do in the Starting
a really easy method is to have four Fighters. Except when you get enemies or bosses than are immune to physical attacks… 🙂
Beating the game with 4 white mages is infinitely superior to beating the game with 4 fighters. 😉
But the fights will last forever….
Four White Mages? Well, they shouldn’t have healing problems at least…. 😉
But the fights will last forever….
that’s half the fun of it…..
by the way Aerith, check your PMs if you haven’t already!
1 White Mage
2 Black Mages
Warrior
Red Mage
White Mage
Monk
Thats right I’m one of those insane people that doesn’t use a black mage, watch out I’m crazy.. rawr. :-\
Black Belt
White Mage
Black Mage
you know, your basic everyday balanced party that can boke things anyway possible
1) White mage
2) —-
3) —-
4) —-
Seriously! Not only is it extremely difficult, but its kind of funny to see some dorky character that looks strangely like a KKK member in their sheets.
Get a party of 4 with your chosen mage in the rear of the party. I usually chose the names of the other 3 to be those blank spots, and the black mages make funny dead people so I use them. Then here’s the fun part- you’ve got enough gold to buy her a hammer, a cloth, and 3 spells, plus a potion.
Now go find some imps… here’s the fun part… you should have bought her HARM, FOG, RUSE, or alternatively CURE instead of HARM… you don’t want to use the level 1 cure that often tho, since the trick is the effects of FOG and RUSE type spells stack… keep casting them on yourself and you’ll rarely be hit and if you are your armor bonus from FOG will make you take 1 dmg at a time. You definately do want to get the other HARM spells, as they are bad-azz for taking out the undead.
The early stages are the hardest. keep your mage to the back, the black mages might live, but the sooner they die the more exp your white mage gets
Your spells that add "armor up" and "easy to dodge" are the trick. When you get the White Shirt and other items that cast those spells, those are the big tickets. Hold on to a healing item (such as heal helm or heal staff) for use later, as well as a damaging item. I find the bane sword helps a lot when combined with something like thor hammer.
With a bit of patience and a lot of returning to the inn, you’ll eventually have a very powerful little white mage. With the right items she’ll have the right spells to keep her alive 🙂 I’ve seen some guides out there, but I had fun just figuring it out myself!
Item configuration (E = equip, * = must have):
E- *Opal Bracelet (best possible armor in the game. has highest evade %)
E- *Thor’s Hammer (casts Lit 2, best weapon til masamune)
*Heal staff (or heal helm for cure effect)
Black Shirt (use for Lit 3 spell)
*White Shirt (casts RUSE for free!)
*Defense sword (casts FOG for free!)
*Bane sword (chance to kill enemies instantly. does not work on undead/bosses/few others.)
*That ring, whatever it is, you can buy (greatly reduces chance of fatal magic being effective)
there’s other stuff too, but that’s all that I can think of at the moment.
Get all HARM spells (HARM 1 is optional though… I’d recommend it)
Get all Anti-element/rub spells. They do not stack, however, so when fighting Kerry cast Anti-fire then start with your FOG and RUSE spells til they’re exhausted.
WALL does help to keep things goin late-game. FADE is useful too.
LIFE spells *CAN* be useful… reviving level 1 allies before a boss battle to act as a (very) short-lived meat shield can be useful- its a double-edged sword though, you could have other more useful spells in those slots.
The trick to bosses is loot the place first, sell items and rest, then run from every enemy possible to save spells on your trip en route- remember reviving your companions is a good way to take hits for you, just dont level up with them alive.
<hr>
For those wishing to have a bit less stress and drama, I’d highly recommend these combos…
Fighter, Fighter, Black Mage, White Mage
— expensive but unstoppable- I’ve played this combo and not died once (except for the EYE in the ice cave… losing a member is 98% unavoidable).
Fighter, Fighter, Black Belt, White Mage
— less expensive, not as formidable early on without the Black Mage’s spells… late game, the Master will actually start to out-perform even the Knights.
Black Belt, Black Belt, Black Mage, White Mage
— much cheaper than most parties, allows you to buy more spells early on… downside is early game is slower. Stop using nunchakus around level 10 or so, Black Belts become better at hand-to-hand combat around that level. Late game the Masters really begin to shine and deal out insane damage… bad side is they’re not too effective as meat shields. Try leveling them with the mages/wizards dead if you’re having trouble in an area, often just a few levels for the Belts is enough to make a difference.
Fighter, Black Belt, Black Belt, White Mage (alternative: Red Mage)
— Good, solid combo with Fighter for meat-shielding and early damage, Masters for late damage, and a Mage for healing. Downside to Red Mages is the lack of the EXIT spell and any useful healing late game.
Fighter, Fighter, Black Belt, Black Belt
— Good very-early game, difficult mid-game, powerful late game. These guys will kick some serious arse late game, but lack any healing early/mid game. The point of this build is to kill stuff and kill stuff FAST. Save ALL healing items you come across (2x Heal Helm equipped on the Knights (sell your other helms), 1x Heal Staff in a Master’s inventory) so that you can have 3 people heal while the 4th tries to kill with attacks or magic items (Bane Sword rocks for that). Healing will take place when you can find an attack-only enemy, reduce to just 1, then have 1 person keep using the White Shirt, while the other 3 heal with the Heal items. You can kill Chaos VERY quickly with this group.
Yeah, I typed way too much on this post… but I like experimenting with this game.
That’s the thing, it IS possible with one white mage. The trick is since she’s alone she gets all the exp and levels very quickly, and her FOG/RUSE spells cover her defense (when you don’t get his most of the time, and only take 1 damage when you do… that’s kick-ass). I doubt it is with a theif because they don’t have any special abilities. And your problem IS you’re level 10 fighting Astos… you’ve run away from everything instead of leveling.
Even with a standard party, I usually try to be 10 before I go into the Marsh cave… what the hell are you trying to fight Astos for at level 10?? I usually try to get my fighter(s) a Silver Sword before even thinking about the Marsh Cave… so by then you’ve got some decent leveling because the swords are pretty expensive when combined with the armors and bracelets for your mages.
You should look at a strategy of taking advantage of the theif’s ability to run. Level nearby towns, or use houses, then when you go to confront bosses take advantage of the running from all the enemies you meet along the way. Or do what I do if you’ve got a weaker party- loot and get exp, go out and use a house, save, then run from enemies til you get to the boss.
That’s right, I’m running away from everything. That’s all that thieves can do! I know I have to level up, I am basically using your strategy, and I was at level 10 at the marsh cave. I just haven’t leveled them up again yet. Even after I level up, though, this won’t be easy. Thieves do @$@# for damage. Right now, against Astos, they do only 1 damage with every non-critical hit. Astos has 168 HP (I think). And considering thieves’ hit % is less than 50%, that takes a while. I’m not even sure it will be possible at level 15. And it takes a looooong time to level up with thieves.
What are your weapons? You should at least be using Scimitars or whatever those green swords are from the pirate-encounter village. You’ve got the ability to run, so chill around the elf town and run from anything that isn’t a lone Ogre. You should be able to take on 2 Ogres, but try 1 at a time first… Ogres offer some pretty good experiance.
Otherwise… dunno what to tell you. I never use thieves, they’re pretty much usless. Even Black Belts have advantages over thieves!
Still, if you’re serious about it, go all out! That would be farkin’ challenging…
I am going through the game with 4 thieves now. I am in the process of leveling up before the marsh cave. I know what you mean about the wolves, and great wolves can still be a problem sometimes. Well, they were 2 or 3 levels ago when I came upon 7 at once.
Right now there really aren’t any problems that I can have monster wise though. I can kill an ogre with 3 creeps (I don’t think 2 ogres with 3 creeps ever comes up, but I could beat hem too) or two ogres or a GrOgre and two ogres or whatever. I tried the peninsula east of Provaka with the super monsters (Yes I know they are from the area above the peninsula) at 8 or 9 and got my ass kicked by everything that showed up. I am gonna try it at 12 or so, unless I go through the marsh cave first.
I really haven’t had to run from that many monsters, theives aren’t too bad. And 4 ninjas is going to kick ass. I have 4 sabres, I believe it is, from Elfland as weapons. Replaced my scimitars from Provaka. I also have 4 of that one kind of armor that’s 1000 gold and 4 caps and 4 gloves. Pretty much they all have the best equipment I can give them and I just bought 99 heals I think. I still have more than 6000 gold from leveling up, and I am going to have more.
Heh, my thieves have started to actually hit most of the time. It was so godd*mn annoying in the beginning because they ALWAYS missed. I think they each do about 30 damage, ogres die after about 7 attacks including misses (1 1/2 rounds or so).
———-
After that I think I’ll beat it with 4 white mages. A one person party is ok, but it’s kind of boring and lonely.
Zulu: Knight, Knight, Monk and Red Mage.
I am level 24 and I STILL can’t beat Astos. He is insanely hard! I have started to do like 1-8 damage per hit, but I still need criticals to beat him. And of course most of the time rub wipes me out in the first 2 rounds. I just I’ll just have to level up more. And I can’t do Finger Point either. I have to use the Marsh Cave to level up. *groan* I get Stun-killed so many times. At least I can consistently kill 2 wizards now though. I use them for training, if I can get in and out.
I forgot, I’m not using savestates this time. Heh. And no class change either.
I did manage to beat it with my 4 thieves, but that was with class change. Even when they were ninjas, though, I had to get them to level 35 to beat it.
——-
edit: I bought DoS. I’m picking the easiest (end-game) party I can think of: Mo/Mo/Wm/Bm Heard you have to be level 99 to beat the extra bosses, so we’ll see with this party.
Unless you are willing to spend enough time to get them to enough HP, (which I’m sure YOU are, but many people aren’t) black belts can get killed in one hit by some bosses. The easiest way to do an ff1 game is to have one fighter and then whatever you want afterwards not because of the fighters attack but because he can take so many hits.
1fighter
1black mage
1white mage
1Thief
i have heard that this is the best way to beat the game =)
