I’ve been slightly interested in FF:TA recently and want to know if it’s good. I’ve seen a few opinions, and want to know. I know it doesn’t follow the old tactics for PS, but don’t care. What do you guys think?

When I first started playing it I loved it. The way it is put together is great and the battle system was reminiscent of my old Orge Battle days, but to be honest the battles take so long that it has gotten really boring. It’s great if you love to play chess (it really is a complex chess game when you get right down to it) but I’ve put over 40 hours into the game and I’m not even halfway done. That can be good if you love the game, but it really didn’t hold my interest.

Basically, I would say it is worth getting but don’t be surprised if you use it more as a pastime when you have like a half hour to kill rather than something you play for hours on end.

Yes, Tactics Advance is a great game, and I love it!

When I first got it, I really didn’t know much about this odd battling style that it had. But, once I started playing it, and experienced my first battle, I was immediately hooked. You have to use strategy in your battles, so that you position yourself in the correct spots to go in for the kill. I love how the battle system is much like a board game, where the players take turns moving towards each other (chess). And, when two players meet, the dominant one will win. I just love this aspect of the game.

Another thing I liked was the duration of it. There are over 300 missions, and it should easily take you 100 hours if you go for just about all of them. I like how you can repeat some missions over and over again, as to get more weapons, money, and/or experience.

Overall, I just really think this game is excellent.

Thank you for all your opinions. If my brother doesn’t get a job this summer I might save up for FF:TA instead of FFXI since that would be the only way for either of us to earn enough money for the monthly payment..

My problem with FF: TA is that is incredibley easy. Once you have acess to the Assassin job, well, they aren’t called that for nothing. The game becomes slightly boring while you have a super character that can auto-kill fairly frequently.

My other problem, is the lack of equipment early. I’m the kind of guy who likes to do every side mission before going onto a storyline mission. Now my characters have learned nearly every abilitiy available to the jobs I want them as in the future, except for the really good ones that make the jobs good (ie Meltdown, Two Swords, etc.). And I can’t get the weapons to learn them yet, so I basically just waste exp =\.

The other problem is Mythril Weapons for using Combo, and the fact that some people can get unlucky and not find any of them.

So basically, if I can get FFXI, get it instead. Okay, that was what I was going to do.

Well, actually, It depends. If your family is on the move a lot (or whatever), then i’d get TA, but if not, i’d get the other. TA has the portability which is why i got it.
