I was just playing the orginal Tekken a couple of days ago awesome 😀
Tekken 4 is for the more determined people that wanna play the game with some skill.
Soul Calibur 2, is nice and all, but I’m gonan go for Tekken 4 on this one, its got a nice storlyine for a fighting game, but also takes some skill so you won’t loose to your friends even when its your friends first turn on it.
So I have to say Soul Calibur… mainly for the 8 way run and the fluid combos.
Anyways, I really like the story mode. There are so many levels and missions to complete, that you actually can’t beat the game in one day. Unless you decide to play for 24 hours.
I also liked being able to purchase weapons, movie-clips of characters, etc.
And the level designs were pretty cool too.
Soul Cal is easier for a button masher to just pick up and play, yes, but they’re not going to fare very well against someone who’s good with their character.
And Ivy and Voldo aren’t especially wonderful until you master them.
So yes, Soul Cal.
James and I never touched Tekken 4’s multi player mode.
Ergo, Soul Calibur 2 wins for the fun factor in multiplayer mode. And for me inventing new swearwords when James whipped me.
you need to be quiet inteligend
sexpot
Because its fun. Simple as that.
Soul Caliber is better and in any moderately decent fighting game you won’t be able to win by button mashing. If you can, the people you’re playing just don’t know what they’re doing. The only sort of game where that sort of thing is kind of effective is something like MvC 2 where a decent strategy seems to be just dumping special moves over and over again to get tick damage.
Oh. When did your opinion about Soul Calibur change?
Anyway, what he said. SC is way better than Tekken, and it’s definitely not a button masher game. Just being decent at performing guard impacts pretty much makes any attempts at button mashing totally useless.
Yeah, I used to beat them up using generic fighting game tactics and then use that as leverage to get them to switch games.
….What about DoA???? I think that deserves a mention as well.
DoA!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Anyway…… I like both equally, Tekken 4 requires more skill and percision. Soul Calibur 2 basically requires you to mash buttons untill your fingers bleed.
Since I own both games it’s a tie for me.
It didn’t change. Well, much, I assume =\… I don’t remember what it was, really. I never got into it, but I don’t think I ever hated it as much as I did Tekken. I beat some of my friends by mashing in the past, but I think that had to do with them sucking.

I thought I remembered you really disliking it, but I guess I’m just crazy! Nevermind then!
I think this is no contest, Soul Calibur 2 is a highly more ambitious and well executed game, with so many moves, deeper innovations, and sophistication to it.

There’s no way you can play Soul Cal well by button mashing.
You’d never be able to beat anyone who knew what they were doing.
There’s no way you can play Soul Cal well by button mashing.
Yeah, I tried button mashing on Soul Calibur, and it was pretty much impossible. You actually have to sit there and think quickly about what moves you and your opponent are going to do next. I hate any fighter game where it is easier to win when you start button mashing, than actually planning out your moves ahead of time.
CALIBUR.
Is it too much to actually spell properly?
yeah i’d have to say that tekken series is better mainly cause i’ve never played soul calibur
Well, that’s some solid logic for you.
yeah i’d have to say that tekken series is better mainly cause i’ve never played soul calibur
Well, that is pretty biased. You can’t say that you like one game over the other, simply because you haven’t been able to play both of them. So, saying that you think Tekken is better simply because you haven’t played SC is wrong.
And Ivy and Voldo aren’t especially wonderful until you master them.
True Ivy is one of my favorite characters. She was hard to control for the first time but I took alot of practice and the different moves/combos can be dished out nicely by me now. My favorite would have to be Nightmare, master the different stance and the moves that come with him and he’s not as slow as you thought he was.

I’ve actually seen a person who was really good with Nightmare play him once- I was shocked. Usually, when I play against Nightmare, I own him, but it’s true- when someone’s mastered him, he’s really not that slow at all. Beating that person was quite a challenge.
Still, even though I get stomped by a lot of people, I’m never grudging about it… unless I lose to a Maxi player. Cheapest character ever.

What’s so cheap about Maxi?
He’s laregly considered one of the worst characters in the game.
I’m a Taki and Nightmare fan myself, which is odd ’cause they’re complete opposites.
I’ve gotten really good and fluent a Nightmare, like, it’s pretty to watch him attack and change stances and stuff :P. I also really like his move "Stomping" (d dr r k k k k) where he does just that.
I also learned a bit of Necrid.. =\
Still, he’s fun to play as.
Talim is my favorite- I play as her almost exclusively. I really want to master Voldo though.
About Maxi being cheap, I don’t raelly know. You can rack up a nice row of combos but the problem is his really short range, so if you can stay out of his range (like I can with Ivy, my favorite) he’s pretty much crap. 😉
I don’t really like Necrid because he doesn’t really have his own style. Talim is okay, she’s somewhere in the middle section were I to make a list from favorite to worst.
What I like best about Talim isn’t even how good she is or anything like that- it’s that she fits perfectly into my playing style. I can pull off exactly the kinds of things I want to with her.
This is turning into more of a General Soul Calibur 2 Discussion thread then a Soul Cal versus Tekken thread.
Soul Calibur is my favorite fighting game…Soul Calibur II was a major disappointment.
What exactly didn’t you like about it?
I’m not jumping on you or anything, I just really loved both games, so I wondered why you didn’t.

Talim is the best to me for ring outs. I love the BBK combo followed by continuous flips to just ride the opponent off the edge.
My favorite character is Seung Mina however, though I am beginning to like Raphael, Cerberus, and Voldo more.
just a question what’s the fighting like in soul calibur? never played it so i’m wondering plus all of you seem to like it
It’s weapon based, and it’s spectacular.
There’s absolutely no reason not to get this game. It’s on every console, and it’s been out long enough that you can probably get it for very cheap.
I’ve played all three versions though, plus I play it in the arcade all the time.
Link is the best extra character, in my opinion, but I prefer the controls on the PS2 version.
Yeah, I really don’t think too highly of the Gamecube controller when it comes to Soul Calibur II. But, RPG’s I enjoy with it.
Nah, Ndi doesn’t know crap about video games. She is like the biggest loser here, don’t you know that?
Oh yeah?
Is your refrigerator running?
Because if it is, I bet it runs like you.
VERY HOMOSEXUALLY.
ff7forever, games are just something I spend a lot of my time and money on, so I try and know what I can. I’m by no means an expert.
SC2 is easier to pick up and play. You don’t need to know any of the moves and you can simply button bash and you’ll win…. only on the easier modes.
What makes SC2 better is that it suits an expert as well as novices.
Beating someone in Tekken doesn’t require more skill.
And For Now (FOR NOW) I’ll go with Tekken series.
And They Should Release SC1 For XBox,GameCube,Or Ps2
oh yeah hworang something like that. he’s awesome i like tkd and he does tkd so yeah i like him
did u know that hworang is the name ofthe red belt form in traditional tae kwon do at least at my school. but ye aif u cared \. i think that tekken is the better game because unlike most games when u see a character u can tell what type of martial arts he does it is so realistic to the real martial art. most games really aren’t and they have eddy who does capoeria which is the coolest martial art there is lol.
I’m gonna love it. Here’s to hoping it will come to PS2!!!

Actually, a lot of the characters in SCII do very recognizable stances from the Chinese martial art Wushu.

really, i dont know much about that martial art but i do like how in tekken they did tae kwon do and capoeria( hworang and eddy). especially capoeria cause ive never seen a game with capoeria in it before. who does the wushu stances in scII ?
