The main character is fifteen-year-old Daisuke Niwa, who one day discovers that his family has quite a secret: One of its male family members in each generation has to share a body with the world’s most famous art thief, and yup, Daisuke shares this fate. Not only does he turn into the tall, sexy thief Dark every noe and then, and has to steal precious pieces of arts in this shape…
Things are cutely complicated, because what triggers Daisuke’s transformation into Dark is seeing or being near the girl he loves, Risa. And fair’s fair, Dark gets turned back into Daisuke whenever he sees the girl he loves, and this is… Risa’s twin sister, Riku. And to make things more complicated: Risa doesn’t love Daisuke, but is totally crazy about Dark, and Riku can’t stand Dark but… You see, it’s a pretty cool love triangle.
And of course there’s also the matter of Satoshi Hiwatari, the very intelligent, very calm boy from Daisuke’s class, whose only interest is to catch Dark, and who has his own freaky secrets…
Everything else would be telling a little too much. 🙂
I like the art. It’s very cute, very nice. However, I think the way the panels are arranged on a page can be quite confusing. But then again.. I am used to clear shonen-style panels…
D.N.Angel isn’t for everyone, I suppose. But people who like love stories, cute boys, sexy boys, cute boys who turn into sexy boys and fluffy mascots… can’t be wrong here. It’s a nice version of the good old "Teenager turns into legendary thief"-concept, it’s pretty funny… dramatic later on, but overall heart-warming.
Ahh… Now I want to read it again…
