Normally, when you think of a game, you think of it as being part of one group. An RPG, a platformer, a driving game, etc. But sometimes you get a combination of elements within a game, for example in Grand Theft Auto where you can drive vehicles and then perform missions that involve a bit of first person action.

My question is: Can anyone think of any other series that fall into this category, and what mixes they offer? I’m curious to find some games that combine more than one thing like this.

There is a game called savage that mixes the elements of a FPS RTS MMOPRG. It sounded very intresting to me but I have not seen it in any stores but I have been thinking of getting it online. The way I understood the game each team has a General that plays the game like an RTS and moves AI troops around and collects and manages resources. Then there are bands of players that alsualt each other and in a first person view with guns and swords and such that can be upgraded by the general with the resources that have been collected. The general must manage these resources and choose wether to spend them on weaker players to balance a team or spend them on good players to make them even better. I thought it sounded intresting but I also heard it had some pretty big bugs.

The only ones I can think of right now are ‘The Bouncer’ and ‘Kingdom Hearts’

‘The Bouncer’ is a mixture of RPG and Beat’em’up kinda like an FF + Fighting Force (which is still amazing).

‘Kingdom Hearts’ is like an RPG Platformer. You get a giant Key for a weapon and whack enemies/cast spells etc. Along the way are puzzles etc.

Haven is a mixture of about 4 different genres.
Not that that doesn’t stop it from sucking or anything.

Isn’t Ratchet & Clank known for being a jack of all trades? I hear it’s pretty bad, though.

I think we need more new ideas right now, rather than combinations of stale ones.

I liked Rachet and Clank… a lot. Best platformer on any next gen system.

But yeah, it’s platformer, with a bit of shooter… and then some parts are driving, or flight sim.

Beyond Good and Evil would be the best choice for me… it’s got a bit of everything and it’s a great game.

I haven’t played it, though! Just what I’ve heard.
