Luck is one of characteric status and it is considered to raise the probability that you can criticalhit. Besides I think there’s some connection to Evasion and Accuracy. Oops did you mean the ability called "Luck"? if so, you should check the thread called "Luck compared with Evasion and Accuracy" there is explanation for luck.

In other words, it enables you to combine the use of Guard and the use of a defensive stance to reduce the damage the character takes from intercepting physical attacks, got it?

Flare is the second best black magick and the best is Ultima, but Ultima takes a longer time than speling Flare. I think it’s better to use Flare when there is one opponent.
