This has probably been covered elsewhere, but I don’t feel like fishing through 13k posts to find it,so…

Just read the theory, and I had a few thoughts (most of it is probably just what I want to happen within the story, and my views are not as well researched as the actual theory).

I really just couldn’t accept that Holy was so weak- it had been over-glorified throughout the game and for square to do a 180 right at the end without fully describing it, so as to confuse people, doesn’t make a heap of sense to me.

My idea was that Holy simply gave the planet power to do whatever it felt was right for itself. Thus, Holy assists meteor to destroy Midgar- the source of its current problems with the lifestream being drained- before the planet uses its own lifestream to cleanse the whole of the Planet.

Sephiroth went into the lifestream when Cloud killed(?) him at Nibelhelm, and his will (as it is reffered to in the theory) merged with the lifesteam and therefore the planet, giving him the freedom to wander as an entity around it, projected from his body in the North Crater. Therefore, all traces of Sephiroth must be removed from the planet before Holy can become active, because otherwise Sephiroth would have a say in ‘what’s right for the planet’, and given his strength could probably then finally command it- becoming the God he wants to be.

The North Crater was made long ago, when meteor first stuck, and Holy was used as the proverbial reset button. The Centra didn’t die because of their contact with the planet, the planet decided to keep them. The sane would therefore happen at the end of FF7- only the people who were damaging the planet i.e. those in Midgar would have been killed, and maybe not all of them. It was then the job of the surviving humans to begin to rebuild again, along with all the other surviving creatures. Hence Red and his children at the end, and also hence the sound of (human) children laughing at the very end. Feel free to correct any of what I’ve said, because I’m sure there’s vast amounts of evidence against it, and these arguements are probably based on my own desires as to what I wanted to happen. After all, there is always the possibility that the game’s designed purposfully intended things to be ambiguous and to stimulate opinions.

It’s definitely a better idea than my own "Aeris is evil!" idea. 🙂 It makes sense to me… Hmm… need to think this over a little…

I think it’s a good theory, especially the stuff about Sephiroth.

I’d like to think that Sephiroth, in summoning Meteor, had some control over it. And it was a combination of Sephiroth embedded in the planet and Meteor above ground which stopped Aeris’ prayer reaching Holy. It’s probably also why he was weakened and not invulnerable like he was when you were fighting in Nibelheim.

But good stuffs.
