Final Fantasy IV & VI Rumble

Ok, we have a rumble for just about every Final Fantasy thread here. But where is the love for these two classics? Let’s bring back some respect to these once beloved games, which have now turned into things of the mere past.

The first rumble is going to be, of course, characters. Each character from both games will be on the list, and since both games have 14 characters each on this list, I will randomly choose one character each from these two wonderful games.

FFIV

<B> Cecil-Dark Knight </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
<B> Kain-Dragoon </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
<B> Rydia-Caller (Child) </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
Tellah-Sage
Edward-Bard
<B> Rosa-White Wizard </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
<B> Yang-Karate Master </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
Cecil-Paladin
Palom-Black Wizard
Porom-White Wizard
Edge-Ninja
Cid-Engineer
<B> FuSoYa-Lunarian </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
Rydia-Caller (Adult)

FFVI

Terra
<B> Locke </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
<B> Edgar </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
Sabin
<B> Celes </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
<B> Shadow </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
<B> Cyan </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
<B> Mog </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
Gau
<B> Setzer </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
<B> Relm </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
Strago
Umaro
Gogo

First Battle:

Edward

Vs.

Locke

So are we just going to be rotating between casting votes for the FFVI one and the FFVI one?

My vote’s for Locke. He was just cooler. "Call me a treasure hunter…"

I. Hate. Edward. I’m ALL for Locke. Die Edward, die die die die die~

I’m probably just going to have a FFIV character vs. a FFVI character for Round 1. After the first fourteen characters are eliminated, which will signal the end of Round 1, I’ll decide what to do next.

U-turn

Edgar

Edgar’s not up for a vote. Edward is.

hb smokey
05-21-2004, 01:17 AM
Ok, I guess this is how it came out…

Locke-2
Edward-1

Not too many votes for the first battle, giving Locke a small victory

Next Battle:

Cecil (Paladin)-Strongest character in the game. Was a Dark Knight, but turns into a Paladin on Mt. Ordeals.

vs.

Relm-Granddaughter of Strago. Very smart-aleck attitude, favorite weapons are brushes.

Hmmm…I wonder?

Agent0042
05-21-2004, 01:21 AM
Cecil rocks, but smart-aleck Relm has a place in my heart.

Relm

Relm, due to real family ties. Need I post the spoiler? There is not a shadow of a doubt in my mind that someone knows about the big daddy of this event.

Agent0042

Smokey, I hope you don’t mind this, but I think the concept needs re-explaining here. Nobody cares right now what you think of Sabin. Sabin is not up for a vote right now. Return to Smokey’s last post and choose for one of the two characters that are currently battling.

hb smokey
05-23-2004, 08:31 PM
Nope, don’t mind at all <B> Agent0042 </B>.

I never thought that a little girl would win against one of my favorite video game characters of all time. I can’t believe I have to say bye to Cecil.

Cecil(Paladin)-<B> 0 </B>
Relm-2

This is the concept. Only vote for the two characters that are battling each other. I will eventually get to all of them, but for now, just choose between the two characters, which are now…

Rydia(Adult)-gets swallowed by Leviathan as a child, and gets taken to the Land of Summons. Gains incredible black magic, but loses her ability to cast white magic. Also gains more summons.

vs.

Cyan-Protects Doma Castle from all dangers, and is also their best soldier. Wife and child were killed, and has haunting memories of that experience. Later sees them again on the Phantom Train as it pulls away. Often been rumored to have been related to Kain

Have at it!

Agent0042

Cyan was my favorite FFVI character, so he definitely gets my vote.

hb smokey
05-26-2004, 12:30 AM
Ok, we seem to be getting less votes as each battle goes on…come on people, vote! Let’s get more competition here

Rydia(Adult)-0
Cyan-1

Or, if you look at it another way…

FFIV characters-0
FFVI characters-3

Next Battle:

Cecil(Dark Knight)-First playable character in the game. Captain of the Red Wings, until dismissed by King Baron for refusal to follow orders. Climbs Mt. Ordeals to bury his guilty past and becomes a Paladin

vs.

Gau-Wild, scavenger boy who lives on the Veldt until you find him. Can learn attacks from countless enemies, and is an underrated character in the game. He has a father, but will not be acknowledged by him.

Another FFVI victory? Fight!

Smokey, you should put a link to the rumble in your signature to promote it. You’re also welcome to advertise it at any of the other rumble threads.

My vote this time is for Cecil (Dark Knight.) I never really found Gau’s Leaping that useful and he didn’t much otherwise interest me. His character theme also wasn’t that great.

Ok finally, we got more than two votes on a battle

Cecil(Dark Knight)-3
Gau-0

The first FFIV character advances…

Ok, that completes Round 1A. Four of the twenty-eight characters have been eliminated. Here are the remaining characters…

FFIV

<B> Kain-Dragoon </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
<B> Rydia-Caller (Child) </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
Tellah-Sage
<B> Rosa-White Wizard </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
<B> Yang-Karate Master </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
Palom-Black Wizard
Porom-White Wizard
Edge-Ninja
<B> Cid-Engineer </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
<B> FuSoYa-Lunarian </B> (Advanced to Round 2)

FFVI

Terra
<B> Edgar </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
Sabin
Celes
<B> Shadow </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
<B> Mog </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
<B> Setzer </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
Strago
Umaro
Gogo

Round 1B:

First Battle:

FuSoYa-Is a Lunarian from the moon. Tells Cecil that he and Golbez are brothers. Him and Golbez go on a mission to destroy Zemus, but only make him stronger in the process

vs.

Gogo-One of the secret characters. In the World of Ruin, go to the Triangle Island that is located on the NorthEast part of the map. Land there, and encounter the enemy that sucks you into his body. After scaveging the cave for a while, you should find him. Can mimic most actions of your party.

Well, I figured that fourteen battles for a single round…umm…didn’t really mingle with me, so yeah.

I have decided to split Round 1 up, thus looking like this:

Round 1A-four battles

Round 1B-five battles

Round 1C-five battles

There, that just seems better to me.

Bahamut ZERO

FuSoYa. He was a cool character to have about with all the magic spells available. That and he helped persuade Golbez to… Well… Anyways, FuSoYa gets my vote.

hb smokey

Alright, another victory squeaked out by FFIV

FuSoYa-2
Gogo-1

Next Battle:

Yang-Karate Master and Prince of Fabul. Has strong fighting skills, and his HP grows at an incredibly high rate. Risks his life to save the dwarves in the Underground, but is later found being taken care of my Sylphs

vs.

Strago-the old grandfather of Relm. Lives in the town of Thamasa, and is one of the remaining few descendents of powerful Blue Magic users. Last name is Magus…

Flawless Victory? Fight!

Ok, FFVI characters won the first three battles, but now FFIV characters have taken the last three, evening things up at…

FFIV-3
FFVI-3

Oh, and by the way…

Yang-2
Strago-1

The karate master edges out the wise magician.

Next Battle:

Kain-The world’s most powerful dragoon. Best friends with Cecil, (during early stage of game). Is controlled by Golbez, and wavers between fighting for the good or evil side. Is a deadly and powerful ally to be reckoned with.
vs.

Sabin-Is a martial artist, and is also Edgar’s twin brother. When their father died, Sabin left Figaro, giving up the throne for his own freedom. Studied under Duncan, his mentor, mastering Blitz skills. He searches for Vargas, a student who killed Duncan out of jealousy, thinking Sabin was chosen to succeed him.

Wow, how did these two characters end up battling each other? And how will the best battle thus far turn out? Let’s find out!

Ok, the best battle thus far brings out a very good competition.

Kain-3
Sabin-2

Hey, someone had to be eliminated…

Next Battle:

Palom: Porom’s twin brother, and one of Mysidia’s best Black Wizards. Restless and slightly ill-mannered youth, Palom is always being scolded by Porom. Palom, however, has a good heart, and is always the first to volunteer to help someone in need. Likes to show off his growing Black Magic powers, in which he is greatly proud of.

vs.

Setzer: A gambler who likes taking chances and enjoys classy opera. Setzer had his sights on marrying the opera house diva Maria. Instead, he and Celes meet up on accident. Setzer provides the party with the airship.

Not as good as battle as the last one, but hopefully will still be as competitive. Have at it ye folks!

Ok, this battle has now ended, with the results:

Palom-2
Setzer-3

The cool gambler squeaks past the little kid…

Next Battle:

Rydia(child)-young girl from the village of Mist. One of the few people in the world who can cast both Black and White magic. Also, one of the few remaining callers. Her mother, who is also a caller, gets killed when Cecil and Kain defeat her Mist Dragon. Rydia is scared about the situation involving the loss of her mother and shows great remorse.

vs.

Umaro-A powerful beast which towers over his foes. Found deep in the icy caves beneath Narshe, Umaro engages the party through his beast-like warrior instinct. Joins the party after he is defeated.

Last battle of Round 2. Can a little girl beat out this huge beast? Fight!

Rydia(Child)-2

FFVI characters won the first three battles, but now, FFIV characters have stormed back to win five out of the last six. They now hold the lead:

FFIV-5
FFVI-4

Here is an update on the remaining characters that have yet to battle…

FFIV

Tellah-Sage
<B> Rosa-White Wizard </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
Porom-White Wizard
Edge-Ninja
Cid-Engineer

FFVI

Terra
<B> Edgar </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
<B> Celes </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
<B> Shadow </B> (Advanced to Round 2)
<B> Mog </B> (Advanced to Round 2)

Wow, there are still very strong characters left to fight from FFVI! Will this round be a domination by FFVI? Let’s find out!

Round 3

Porom-twin sister of Palom. Is an up-and-coming White Mage in Mysidia Village. She is very calm in both everyday life, and when she is facing danger. Seems to be the brighter of the twins. Keeps Palom in line by administering an occasional "pop" on the head when necessary. However, she still remains very close to her brother.

vs.

Edgar-Is the King of Figaro, and the twin brother of Sabin. Believes that he is a self-proclaimed ladies man, thinking that he has the touch. He is a master mechanic, and has equipped his castle with powerful engines that enable it to burrow and travel underground. He pretends to be an Imperial supporter, but is actually in league with the resistance group the Returners.

Wow, both these characters are half of their respected twin brother/sister! How did this happen? But who will prevail? Duel to the death!

Azwethinkweiz

Ok, I’ll end this before it gets too ugly…

Porom-0
Edgar-3

The King of Figaro moves on!

Next Battle:

Tellah-His daughter, Anna, is engaged to the "spoony bard", Edward. He is a powerful mage. Has the rare ability to cast high levels of both white and black magic. However, his old age and short-term memory often causes him to forget his spells. Has a bad temper, and overreacts in certain situations. Tellah will prove himself to be a crucial player, right to the end.

vs.

Mog-A very cool Moogle. Is held hostage in Narshe by Lone Wolf, a pickpocket. After he is rescued by the party, Mog tells them that Ramuh came to him in a dream, telling him that the party was coming his way. Determined to seek answers to his dreams, he joins the party to assist in their cause.

Will this turn out the way I expect it to? Fight!

Next Battle:

Rosa-Is a very strong White Mage. Is the romantic interest of Cecil throughout the game. Rosa worries constantly about Cecil, whether waiting for him to return after combat or trying to understand his resentment towards the King. When Cecil is cast out of Baron, Rosa follows him out of longing once she hears of his unexpected disappearance in the Village Mist.

vs.

Terra-Once enslaved by the Empire, Terra has a mysterious past and no idea who her true identity is. On her quest for the truth and answers about her life, she feels her own loneliness. She’s had no true friends until she meets the Returners and yearns to discover love. Since she is half-esper, half-human, she is able to make a strong connection with Espers of the other world.

This looks like it could be a good battle, but let’s find out! Fight!

Yeah, my rounds aren’t as organized as all the other rumbles. But, I guess since I started out with 14 characters on each side, and since I have to do this rumble with two games, I had a little trouble figuring out how to work the rounds. But, I think I got it down.

I was hoping that I could get one more vote for Terra, so I could break the tie and advance her to the next round. This result shocked me:

Terra-2
Rosa-3

But, that is what makes rumbles…well…rumbles. The upsets!

Next Battle:

Cid-Used to work for the Baronian Empire. World-wide famous for his remarkable achievements, one which includes building the entire Baronian fleet of airships. One of the first to suspects King Baron’s odd behavior. Has a "never say die" attitude. When all seems hopeless, he will not hesitate to put it all on the line.

vs.

Celes-Fused with the ability to use magic while she was young, Celes is the only character, besides Terra, who can use magic without having to learn first from Magicite. A former Imperial general, Celes is branded a traitor after having doubts about the Empire.

Can the legendary Cid move past this strong woman? Let’s find out.

Wow. The first tie in this rumble, and it couldn’t have been more of a difficult decision for me to make. This is hard to eliminate one of these characters, but I am making Celes go through. Sorry Cid!

Last Battle of Round 1

Edge-Prince of Eblan, an underground town. He is a true ninja, and is masterful with two weapons. Rubicant, one of Golbez’s Four Elementals, leads a devestating attack upon Eblan, slaying many people, including the King and Queen, and sending the survivors to a dark underground refugee. Edge is capable of throwing objects at extremely high velocity, and can amass a variety of Ninja techniques. Edge’s only motive is to seek revenge on Golbez and his minions, for slaying his parents.

vs.

Shadow-A highly-skilled mercenary who will do anything for money. Shadow is haunted by dreams of a past life as a thief. His only friend is his faithful dog, Interceptor. Interceptor takes on an unusual friendship with Relm. Shadow and Relm have an unknown relation, as he is able to equip a memento of Relm’s departed mother. Can throw most weapons and other objects at enemies, causing huge damage in some cases.

This battle is sure to be a great one! Two mysterious individuals, and two awesome characters. But who will win? Fight!

<B> Agent0042 </B> is pleased with this outcome. Could Relm be a darkhorse? We will just have to wait and see who she is paired with next.

Second Battle:

Shadow-1

FFIV

<B>Kain</B> (Advanced to the Semi-Finals)

FFVI

<B>Locke</B> (Advanced to the Semi-Finals)
Edgar (Eliminated in Round 3)
Cyan
Mog
<B>Setzer</B> (Advanced to the Semi-Finals)
Relm (Eliminated in Round 3)

Hmm…interesting. How shall I do the voting, with an odd number of people left? I have a suggestion. How about if we just automatically let Kain advance to the Semi-Finals? I mean, it would be weird to not have both games representing the final four. So, I think I’m just going to go ahead and have Kain advance to the Semi-Finals. Don’t hate the player, hate the game!

Ok, if we end up with a tie, then I will decide of a new format to determine a winner. But I’m going to start voting now, because I really want to.

First Battle

Main Theme-This is the music that plays while you are walking around on the World Map.

I know that you can’t please everyone with the music choices, but that won’t stop me from grumbling a bit. Just how I am I guess. Feel free to pay no attention.

I’m voting here for Terra’s Theme here. They are both really good pieces, but I didn’t even realize until just now when I listened to Terra’s Theme again how much I liked it.

(BTW, notice how I how put my vote in bold. That’s something that some people do at the rumbles at another forum I visit, and I’m hoping it’s something we can have catch on here. It helps the person running the rumble to quickly determine the vote, while allowing the voter to make their comments at the same time.)

One other thing: for those who want to listen to the music quickly, I definitely recommend the MIDIs over at the FFShrine main site. There doesn’t seem to much quality loss at all, if any, and I think they work just fine for determining your choice if you’re not sure.

Final Battle-6

Hmm, little lacking of votes, eh?

Next Battle:

Mount Ordeals-This is the music that plays while Cecil is on his quest to become a Paladin.

vs.

Forever Rachel-Hear this while Locke is talking to his sweetheart Rachel in the basement of a house.

I forgot the name of the city that Rachel is resting in, so help is always welcome. 🙂

And I vote for <B>Mount Ordeals</B>. It was just a really catchy tune for me.

You know, neither really excites me much. I’m going to go with Forever Rachel. I’m a sap for that sort of piece and portions of it remind me of the music that played in FFVIII’s Deep Sea Deposit, which I kinda liked.

Sorry to hear that the Dell’s still having problems. Hope everything’s back to normal soon.

Well, ever since the lightning struck right next to my house, the Dell has been terrible. But no computer is perfect, so I guess I just have to deal with it.

I think the problem is that the Dell has two parasites on it. I’m going to remove them, but I will have to re-program everything as a result. And that usually takes me a while.

The Dreadful Battle-The first time you hear this music is while you are on Mt. Ordeals. Once you near Cecil becoming a Paladin, you are attacked by Milon. After he is defeated the first time, it transforms into it’s true form. A very difficult fight at this early stage of the game, and the music is dramatic.

vs.

The Last Dungeon-During the time that you spend in Kefka’s Tower, you hear this music.

After your party has been killed by Zeromus, except for Cecil who has only 1 HP left, the Elders of Mysidia and a bunch of other people start praying for the group’s success.

I’ll go with <B>The Dreadful Battle</B>, one of my favorite battle themes. The Day After just seemed pretty ordinary to me.

Just so I can vote(because I haven’t played FFIV, but played FFVI because it’s great), can you let me know, which scene is from which game please?

Agent0042

They’re not scenes, they’re music pieces. But I guess you want, "The Day After" because that’s the one from FFVI. You should go listen to the MIDIs over at the main FFShrine site though – they’re freely available, so why not?

Why are there so many instances in which there are no votes for two or three days here? I totally forget to update the battles sometimes because of it…

The Dreadful Battle-3
The Day After-4

Even with the little voting it received, this battle was as close as it could get.

Next Battle:

The Decisive Battle-FFVI

vs.

The Fierce Battle-FFVI

Two battle themes from the same game meet to do battle, but only one will walk out victorious, and show up in the Quarter-Finals. Which one shall it be?

You’re not going to vote in this battle, Smokey? Let the winner be determined by us then, I guess. I’m going with The Fierce Battle. The normal boss music was cool, but this one really got things going and you didn’t get to hear it nearly as often, so that made it even more special.

Ok, even though I already voted, I’m going to go ahead and advance <B>The Decisive Battle</B>. It may seem unfair, but there was three days in which someone else could have broken the tie.

Well, it certainly doesn’t unfair to me, but rather very noble of you considering that your vote was for "The Fierce Battle." I am confused though as to why you aren’t using the tiebreaker in which you go back and look at the votes in the previous round(s) to determine which piece moves on.

Oh well, you can sort that out, and I’ll put in a vote for Dancing Mad.

Alright, now let’s see which of these two pieces will advance to the next round.

Dancing Mad – 5/5 = 100%
Forever Rachel – 7/8 = 87.5%

And just like that, we have Dancing Mad as the winner.

Like I said, at least the first version of Atma Weapon has to be in there. Maybe one or more of the eight dragons, also The Dream Stooges and Wrexsoul because they could be hella hard, especially if you weren’t properly ready. Of course, if you’re including final bosses, then Kefka has to be in it, but maybe those shouldn’t be included. First Battle of Round 1:

Milon-After you eliminate Milon and his 4 Ghasts on Mt. Ordeals, he will disappear from the screen. As soon as you cross the bridge and reach the other side, he attacks from the back. The entire fight is a back-attack, making it more difficult to do good damage on the beast. The best strategy is to keep Palom and Porom alive, and have them cast Twin as many times as possible.

vs.

Atma Weapon – This is the first fight in which The Fierce Battle plays. You first fight Atma Weapon at the end of the World of Balance. He has powerful attacks and exists of pure energy. You’ll want your strongest characters and specials ready. Have Locke in the party to steal the Atma Weapon, which grows in strength as you level up.

Valvalis-After you rescue Rosa, and Kain joins your party after being released from his spell, you will fight Valvalis in the same spot you finished off the Magus Sisters. The trick to this fight is to have Kain use his Jump while Valvalis is in her spin mode, and then attack at will when she returns to her normal fighting mode. Attacks are pretty much useless while she is in spin.

vs.

Ultros – He is an octopus who is always dogging the party. You fight him another of times. His special attacks include Ink and Tentacles. His Tentacles will likely kill Banon in one shot in the first battle if you don’t put him in the back row. He later gives up the fight and becomes a receptionist.

Fight!

I really like both villians. <B>Ultros</B> was great throughout the game, and Valvalis has attacks that can take your parties HP down to 1.

Alrighty then, let’s just take a look at the results.

Valvalis-2
Ultros-5

So while Ultros may have been the easier boss, it looks like people loved his comdedic sequences he brought to the game.

Next Battle:

Kainazzo-When you return to Baron castle through the sewers, you will meet this boss in the Throne Room. During the battle, he can hide in his shell to replenish his HP. After he summons water to surround him, this is your chance to use lightning elemental attacks, preferable Lit3 if you have it. Uses a powerful Wave attack on the party. Basically, Kainazzo is a big turtle.

vs.

Atma-You fight Atma towards the end of the game. It is a wise decision to give it everything you got, because this version is a lot stronger than the original you fought on the Floating Continent. Pearl works really well against Atma.

Fight!

I’m going to go with <B>Kainazzo</B> this time around.

So it looks as if there wasn’t much support for the huge turtle-looking thing. But nonetheless, we still have a decisive winner.

Next Battle:

Bahamut-On the moon, if you enter Bahamut’s Cave, you will have the opportunity to acquire this powerful Summon. Bahamut uses a five count to use his devastating Nuke attack. 5-4-3-2-1…WOW! Try to defeat the dragon before he uses this attack, because it may wipe out the entire party.

vs.

Chadarnook – A vexing boss that appears in the portrait in Jidool. It has two forms and switches between them. It has a ridiculous amount of HP and the ability to sap life out of your characters and confuse them. The worse thing is that you may not know that you are only supposed to attack the Demon form of this boss. Attack the woman too much and you have to start over.

Fight!

I’m going with <B>Bahamut</B>. There are some great weapons and armor in his cave, and also the infamous enemy, Behemoth. The journey through the cave itself is a challenge. Plus, I don’t really remember Chadarnook all that much.

Next Battle:

Mom Bomb-As you are fighting your way up Mt. Hobs, you meet and help Yang in battle. Then, Mom Bomb strikes. It’s a huge boss, that explodes into 6 smaller versions of bombs when you hit it with enough damage.

vs.

Hidon – A monster that once terrorized Strago and his companion Gungho. It exists in the cave north of Thamasa. It has minions called Hidonites and so-so attacks. It uses a Blue Magic called GrandTrain that is unique to it.

Thanks Daze, that is the name of the mountain. Welcome to the forum, and if you have any questions about the rumbles, PM me.

Next Battle:

Zemorus-The final villian of FFIV. After you use the Crystal on Zemus, it’s true form emerges into a hideous beast. It has very strong attacks such as Nuke and Big Storm, which both take away great amounts of HP.

vs.

SrBehemoth-It’s an Behemoth you fight in the Cave in the Veldt in the World of Ruin. It can attack four times in a row and has high HP. It always drops a BehemothSuit armor which can be exchanged at the Coliseum for the powerful Snow Muffler. It appears on the Veldt.

Zemorus-12
SrBehemoth-1

Holy cow! 13 votes is possibly the most number of votes a battle has received in this thread for a long time. Good job guys.

Next Battle:

Dark Knight-After Cecil becomes a Paladin on Mt. Ordeales, he must face his past, in the form of his former self! Dark Knight attacks strong and quick, so it’s a hard fight if you don’t take it seriously. When you win the fight, Cecil truly becomes a Paladin.

vs.

Skull Dragon-Another one of the many dragons you will come to encounter on the final tower. It’s undead, so just use the typical undead attack routine, and you shouldn’t have much problems with it.

Dark Knight-8

So it looks as if nobody really cared much for the Skull Dragon. I didn’t myself, so looks like there wasn’t much need for this battle.

Next Battle:

Wyvern-Near the end of the Lunar Subterrane, you will notice a sword on the right side of the screen. If you find the secret path to it, you will have to fight this beast to acquire the Crystal, which is easily the strongest sword in the game. Wyvern countdown 5…4…3…2…1…0…then releases an extremely strong attack that can take approximately 6,000 HP away from your party members.

vs.

Phunbaba-A large giant that terrorizes the orphanage. Terra attempts to fight it, but this is a battle that is a guaranteed lost. Afterwards, your other party members take it on and one gets knocked away. Terra joins again in morphed form. This boss hits with elemental magic and strong attacks.

Wyvern-7
Phunbaba-2

Nope, the dragon pulled away with a comfortable victory. I guess just not enough people found Phunbaba to be a good villian.

Next Battle:

Odin-After certain events in the game have taken place, go to the basement of Baron Castle. There, you will fight the mighty Odin, except for one tiny weakness; Casting Lit 3 on him will almost kill him surely!

vs.

The Phantom Train-A train carries departed souls to the afterlife. Sabin, Cyan and Shadow if you have him get stuck on it. They eventually figure out how to stop it and it fights them. It has attacks that can hit all targets and is fairly strong, but keep pounding with Shurikens and specials and it eventually goes down.

Fight!

I would vote for Odin if he couldn’t be destroyed in one hit. While I like the fact that he becomes a Summon if you defeat him, he was just too easy. That, and <B>The Phantom Train</B> was just awesome.

Wow, I’m really surprised that Odin won this battle. There were two quick votes not in his favor, but then massive support came his way.

Next Battle:

Ogopogo-After you are nearing the end of the Lunar Subtarrene, you will enter a new area where the music changes. On this first floor, go to the bottom and you will see a sword on a pedastal. Touch it, and you will fight Ogopogo. He has a fearsome Wave attack that can cause great damage if you aren’t careful, but the reward for defeating him is well worth it; The Masamune for Edge.

vs.

Larry/Curly/Moe – They appear in Cyan’s soul as the Three Dream Stooges. They work to help each other and have a special called Delta Attack that petrifies your characters. This is a move that belonged Cindy, Mindy and Sandy in other FFs.

Fight!

These are two great bosses to be honest, but since Larry/Curly/Moe are pretty much the same as the Magus Sisters, I’m going with <B>Ogopogo</B>.

The first time you face him shortly after acquiring Edge, he destroys the entire party in seconds flat. Well for right now, we are only judging him as an enemy, and that’s it. Don’t take into consideration what he does if and when he joins your party; merely base your vote off what you think of him when you have to fight him.

Kefka is one bad mofo
Um, no. Don’t ask that in a thread like this.

Anyways, figures that I’m really late updating this, and it’s the Finals too!

Behemoth-2
Zemorus-5

And there you have it folks; the winner of the villian rumble! It’s also a little hard to find a quality picture of Zemorus, so if someone supplied one, I would be grateful.

However, I have a suggestion for the subject of our next rumble… main characters. Now, you’ll say "Wasn’t the very first one a main character rumble?" Well, yes it was, and that’s my point. Very few people actually participated in that rumble, and it’s important enough that it deserves a second chance.
I’m not going to do a category that was already done, no matter if it had very little support. That would just be a waste of time, and it’s not like we have several more voters this time around. So characters are out of the question. I was thinking possibly weapons, but maybe not the right rumble to do it in here. Quotes would possibly be a good choice, but I would need a lot of help in getting some. It wouldn’t all need to be funny quotes either; just ones that you think are great and have meaning in their words. But what would you guys like to see?

Previous Winners:

<B>Character</B> – Cyan Garamonde
<B>Music</B> – Dancing Mad
<B>Villian</B> – Zemorus

But what would you guys like to see?
I’m still all about best scenes, if anyone else is interested. Quotes are also really cool and I’d definitely be willing to help if we did that.

The main problem is finding the quotes, although there are a few good ones like "YOU SPOONY BARD" and "Call me treasure hunter or I will rip your lungs out"

EDIT:

Final Fantasy IV
"You spoony bard!" – Tellah
"I am just a Dark Knight, with no courage to disobey his majesty." – Cecil Harvey
"The Cecil I know would never whimper like this! The Cecil I love…" – Rosa
"I will not perish as long as there is evil within the hearts of people" – Zeromus
"Draw the enemies and… smash ’em!" – Yang

Final Fantasy VI

"I PREFER the term treasure hunter." – Locke

"My name is Atma…… I am pure energy…and as ancient as the cosmos. Feeble creatures, GO!" – Atma

"I’m Atma……Left here since birth…Forgotten in the river
of time…I’ve had an eternity to…ponder the meaning of things…And now I have an answer…" – Atma

"I’m a soldier, not some love-starved twit!" – Celes

"Power only breeds war…I wish I’d never been born." – Celes

"Run! Run! Or you’ll be well done!" – Kefka

"This is sickening… You sound like chapters from a self-help booklet! Prepare yourselves!" – Kefka

"ERAU QSSI DLRO WEHT"- Found in Darylls Tomb

"Don’t tease the octopus, kids!" – Ultros

"If something were to happen to me, all the world’s women would grieve!" – Edgar

Well heres just some I got…damn FFIV being hard to find quotes for.

Yeah, it’s looking like quotes for this edition. Although I feel bad that you guys are doing the work in finding them. It’s just that I have no idea when I’ll be getting on now, or if I’ll even get on every two or three days. So while the help is greatly, greatly appreciated, I will try to do my best to find quotes and help out some more.

Oh good, so I have some extra time then? I messed up last night and forgot to add in my submissions. I’ll try to do better later tonight, or before I go to work if I have the chance. If nobody responds, I’ll just edit this post.

Edit:

I’ve decided I’m just going to help out with FFVI. That game’s far fresher in my mind than FFIV, which I’ve only played a couple of times and that was a while back. So I’m afraid I really can’t be of too much help on that. But here we go with FFVI:

Kefka: Changed your mind…?
Edgar: I guess I have no choice… Or maybe I do!
Kefka: Ackk! Shameful that a king should flee, leaving his people
behind! How utterly delightful!

Locke: Edgar, Terra can use magic, and we can’t. That’s the only
difference between us. The fact is……we could use her help!
Terra: Thank you, Locke! Thank you, Edgar! … … Stop swooning…!

Sabin: Kefka! Wait!!!
Kefka: "Wait," he says…… Do I look like a waiter?
Wait!!!
Wait!!!
Kefka: Ha, ha, ha! What a toad!

Cyan: No!!! Elayne! Owain!!
Sabin: Cyan! Is that your wife and child? Departing?!
Cyan: Please, wait! Elayne! Owain…
(Elayne) My love… You made me so happy. Don’t forget me…
(Owain) Dad! I’ll make sure Mom’s alright!

Merchant: You’re that thief, Locke, aren’t you?
Locke: Hey! Call me treasure hunter, or I’ll rip your lungs out!

Opera Song, Aria de Mezzo Caraterre:

I’m the darkness, you’re the stars.
Our love is brighter than the sun.
For eternity, for me there can be,
Only you, my chosen one…

Must I forget you? Our solemn promise?
Will autumn take the place of spring?
What shall I do? I’m lost without you.
Speak to me once more!

Celes: I win! Now, honor your part of the bargain!
Setzer: How…unusual! A codin with identical sides…!
Sabin: That coin…!? Edgar!!! Don’t tell me…!
Celes: I think you’ve been hustled, Mr. Gambler.
Setzer: Ha! How low can you get?! I love it! Alright, I’ll help
you. Nothing to lose but my life… My life is a chip in your pile!
Ante up!

Terra: Funny, isn’t it… I was used by the Empire…even had my
thoughts ripped from me… But here I am cooperating with the
"enemy"…
Leo: People are people. Not all of us are like Kefka.
Terra: What…what’s with you?
LEo: I knew you were being used as a kind of biological weapon… And
because I didn’t do anything about it, I’m no different than Kefka…
Terra: I’m the product of a human and an Esper… Will I ever be able
to love someone?

Relm: I couldn’t miss the chance to practice my drawing! Say,
sweetie, who are you?
Ultros: How dare you! I’m Ultros!!
Locke: Relm and Ultros…… What are you doing… …?
Relm: Listen, Ulty…… Why don’t you pose for me?
Ultros: I’m not one of your kiddy friends! Don’t talk to me as if I
were!! I don’t want a portrait!

Kefka: I’d say you’re all charged up, boys and girls…or whatever… Say, remind me to show you my Magicite collection someday! You might
see a few familiar faces!!! Now for a little Magicite hocus-pocus…!

Celes: Power only breeds war… I wish I’d never been…born.
Kefka: Ouch!! B…blood!? You…vicious brat! Grrr… Aargh… I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate HATE YOU! Grrr…

Setzer: I’m just a gambler… I just want to be left alone… This
world is too chaotic for me. What’s worse, I’ve lost my wings…
Celes: But before the world collapsed you fought with all your heart! You were absolutely fearless…
Setzer: That was then… We can never have that world back!
Celes: You want to live in this world as it is? No? Then do
something about it!
Setzer: Mwa ha! All right…you win! I’m starting to feel lucky!!

Owain: Papa’s strong!
Cyan: No… I didn’t do anything…then…and I can’t now… I’m a
man with no honor…
(Elayne) No! You have suffered too much… My beloved… We’ll
always be together…
(Owain) Papa… We love you!
Cyan: Please, wait!!
We’ll always be on your side…
Cyan: Elayne and Owain live on in my heart. I must leave the past
behind. I have so much to live for…

Kefka: I will exterminate everyone, and everything!
People will keep rebuilding the things you take from them.
Kefka: Then I’ll destroy those too. Why do people rebuild things they
know are going to be destroyed? Why do people cling to life when they
know they can’t live forever? Think how meaningless each of your
lives is!
Terra: It’s not the net result of one’s life that is important. It’s
the day-to-day concerns, the personal victories, and the celebration
of life…and love! It’s enough if people are able to experience the
joy that each day can bring!

Kefka: This is sickening… You sound like chapters from a self-help
booklet! Prepare yourselves!

Kefka: Life… Dreams… Hope… Where did they come from? And
where are they headed? These things… I am going to destroy!

Sorry if I’ve reposted here anything that was already used. I didn’t read over the ones that were already posted all that closely on purpose. That way, if anything was posted more than once, then it seems like it should probably be a lock for inclusion.

Yeah, I know, I submitted a lot to consider.

No, I don’t think so. But then again, most people don’t really like Relm, so I’m not sure anything of hers would win. Though I did include the Ultros bit, because I like him and I love her.

There was one in particular from FFIV’s Cid I remember now that I definitely would like to see included. Just need to find it here… Well, it’s not quite as good as I remember it, but how about:

Cid: Golbez! I’ll show you the great fireworks of Cid, the Master Engineer!

Okay folks. Hopefully the quote edition will bring about as much excitement as possible. And like I promised, I have decided to change the voting. While it actually can’t take effect until Round 1 is complete, I’m thinking I should wait until then and keep it a surprise!

FFIV

Edward – "Cecil! Let me show you the courage you’ve taught me!"

Rydia – "Stop it! No more! I’ve had enough! Tellah? Yang? and even Cid! We lost them all? All!"

Cid – "Golbez! I’ll show you the great fireworks of Cid, the Master Engineer!"

Tellah – "You spoony bard!"

Cecil – "I am just a Dark Knight, with no courage to disobey his majesty."

Rosa – "The Cecil I know would never whimper like this. The Cecil I love…"

Zemorus – "I will not perish as long as there is evil within the hearts of people"

Yang – "Draw the enemies and…smash ’em!"

Kain – "Someday, I will destroy you."

Legend of FFIV – "One to be born from a dragon, hoisting the light and the dark, arises high up in the sky to the still land, veiling the moon with the light of eternity. It brings another promise ot mother earth with a bounty and mercy."

Zeromus – "I am the absolute dark substance….product of Zemus’ hatred….My name is Zeromus, and I am……the hatred……Suffer…and…perish…my hatred will last until I destroy all things. NOW it’s your turn…come into my Darkness!"

FFVI

Locke – "I PREFER the term treasure hunter"

Atma – "My name is Atma…… I am pure energy…and as ancient as the cosmos. Feeble creatures, GO!"

Atma – "I’m Atma……Left here since birth…Forgotten in the river
of time…I’ve had an eternity to…ponder the meaning of things…And now I have an answer…"

Celes – "I’m a soldier, not some love-starved twit!"

Kefka – "Run! Run! Or you’ll be well done!"

Kefka – "This is sickening… You sound like chapters from a self-help
booklet! Prepare yourselves!

Ultros – "Don’t tease the octopus, kids!"

Kefka – "Life… Dreams… Hope… Where did they come from? And

Edgar – "If something were to happen to me, all the world’s women would grieve!"

Sabin – "Kefka! Wait!!!"
Kefka – "Wait," he says…… Do I look like a waiter?
Wait!!! Wait!!! Ha, ha, ha! What a toad!"

Merchant – "You’re that thief, Locke, aren’t you?"
Locke – "Hey! Call me treasure hunter, or I’ll rip your lungs out!"

Kefka – "I’d say you’re all charged up, boys and girls…or whatever…say, remind me to show you my Magicite collection someday! You might

Kefka – "Ouch!! B…blood!? You…vicious brat! Grrr… Aargh… I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate HATE YOU! Grrr…"

Locke – "I will not let go… …I promise! You almost ate it trying to pick up that silly trinket!"

Sabin – "You think a little thing like the end of the world was gonna do me in?"

As you can see, I’m really trying to avoid including the really longer quotes from specific games. We need four more from FFIV, and two more from FFVI. After that, I will start it immediately.

FF1WithAllThieves

Yes, there you have them folks. All 16 quotes from FFIV and FFVI that could become the champion. I say we go ahead and get this show on the road!

First Battle of Round 1:

Rosa – "The Cecil I know would never whimper like this. The Cecil I love…"

vs.

Atma – "I’m Atma……Left here since birth…Forgotten in the river
of time…I’ve had an eternity to…ponder the meaning of things…And now I have an answer…"

Fight!

I would have actually voted for Atma, if it wasn’t for the part where it ponders the meaning of ‘things’. So, <B>Rosa</B> gets it this time, by default I guess.

Rosa-8
Atma-0

So, it wasn’t even close at all. Hopefully the rest of the battles will be a lot closer than this, although I’m sure there will still be ones similar.

Next Battle:

Cid – "Golbez! I’ll show you the great fireworks of Cid, the Master Engineer!"

Well even though a lot of people have liked Kekfa as a villian, looks like it had nothing to do with the decision here. More people just enjoyed Cid’s quote I guess.

Two great quotes to be honest with you guys. Edward because he isn’t too brave and he stands up for what he has been taught. <B>Locke</B>, as you can surely see in my custom rank, is a great one too. I just have to pick it for the ‘call me a treasure hunter’ part by itself.

Well I was certainly hoping that the boss of FFIV would win this battle, but if it weren’t for those two early votes, this surely would have been an embarrassing battle.

And now we are into Round 2!

FFIV

<B>Cecil – "I am just a Dark Knight, with no courage to disobey his majesty."</B> (Advanced to the Quarter-Finals)

Cid – "Golbez! I’ll show you the great fireworks of Cid, the Master Engineer!" (Eliminated in Round 2)

where are they headed? These things… I am going to destroy!"</B> (Advanced to the Quarter-Finals)

<B>Merchant – "You’re that thief, Locke, aren’t you?"
Locke – "Hey! Call me treasure hunter, or I’ll rip your lungs out!"</B> (Advanced to the Quarter-Finals)

Ultros – "Don’t tease the octopus, kids!" (Eliminated in Round 2)

And I guess you guys are wondering this big secret way that I’m now going to determine which participants are pitted against each other. Heck, you might have figured it out by now, since it can’t be implemented until at least Round 2. Well, I really don’t like seeing one totally dominate the other in a battle; just seems like a big waste of time to me. And I thought about a way to try and prevent such occurences, and have most of the fights be pretty equal in competition. Here’s how I’m going to do it:

I will count up total votes that each winning quote has received. I will pit quotes that have very similar # of quotes against each other. If two or more quotes have the same amount, then I’ll just see which one had the higher % of votes in the battle they won. So for example, if two quotes that each received 10 votes battled against one another, it would most likely be a very competitive battle. But if I stacked up two quotes, one getting 10 and the other getting several less than that, then it’s far more likely to be another dominate victory. So hopefully this new method of choosing participants will make all the battles competitive.

First Battle of Round 2:

Rydia – "Stop it! No more! I’ve had enough! Tellah? Yang? and even Cid! We lost them all? All!"

vs.

Yang – "I cannot be resting while you’re fighting! Count me in!"

Fight!

Going to vote for <B>Rydia</B> here, as this was a hard decision for me. Hopefully this new method proves useful.

Terra -"Thank you, Locke! Thank you, Edgar! … … Stop swooning…!"

Ok guys, I have made a critical error. Turns out, that I used two quotes that were already up for battle in this round twice. I used the Merchant/Locke quote twice, as well as the Kefka quote about the self-help booklet. Since those two quotes already were eliminated or advanced, I conducted one battle too many, and must do another one to finally end this round. I’m surprised that one of you guys, or myself for that matter, didn’t even notice it until now.

Hopefully my mistake didn’t scare off some people. And it was pretty confusing for me at first as well, becuase it took me a little while to find out what I had done wrong. And with that, we are finally into the Quarter-Finals!

FFIV

Cecil – "I am just a Dark Knight, with no courage to disobey his majesty." (Eliminated in Quarter-Final #1)

Legend of FFIV – "One to be born from a dragon, hoisting the light and the dark, arises high up in the sky to the still land, veiling the moon with the light of eternity. It brings another promise ot mother earth with a bounty and mercy." (Eliminated in Quarter-Final #3)

<B>Rydia – "Stop it! No more! I’ve had enough! Tellah? Yang? and even Cid! We lost them all? All!"</B> (Advances to the Semi-Finals)

<B>Tellah – "You spoony bard!"</B> (Advanced to the Semi-Finals)

FFVI

Kefka – "Life… Dreams… Hope… Where did they come from? And
where are they headed? These things… I am going to destroy!"
(Eliminated in Quarter-Final #4)

Kefka – "I’d say you’re all charged up, boys and girls…or whatever…say, remind me to show you my Magicite collection someday! You might see a few familiar faces!!! Now for a little Magicite hocus-pocus…!" (Eliminated in Quarter-Final #2)

<B>Locke -"Edgar, Terra can use magic, and we can’t. That’s the only
difference between us. The fact is……we could use her help!"
Terra -"Thank you, Locke! Thank you, Edgar! … … Stop swooning…!"</B> (Advanced to the Semi-Finals)

<B>Merchant – "You’re that thief, Locke, aren’t you?"
Locke – "Hey! Call me treasure hunter, or I’ll rip your lungs out!"</B> (Advanced to the Semi-Finals)

Well this is surely to be quite the competitive finish, with four remaining quotes from both games. Will we end up with a battle of both games? We will soon find out!

Quarter-Final #1

Cecil – "I am just a Dark Knight, with no courage to disobey his majesty."

vs.

Locke – "Edgar, Terra can use magic, and we can’t. That’s the only difference between us. The fact is……we could use her help!"

Given that it seems Smokey is apparently good and gone, perhaps it’s time we consider allowing somebody else to take over management of his rumbles if they want to? (Not me, though! I have quite enough on my plate.)

Sounds like a good idea, assuming there’s someone out there who’s willing and reasonably qualified.

Doesn’t seem like there would need to be that many qualifications:

1. The ability to read.
2. The ability to count.
3. A functioning frontal lobe.
4. A pulse.
>_<

Um well I think we might as well at least just get this out of the road considering there are only two fights left. After that we can just sort out what happens. So…

Rydia- 5
Locke- 10

Well, it looks like Locke is on to the finals with this victory over Rydia but who’s going to be goig up agianst Locke in the final battle…

Semi-Final #2

Tellah – "You spoony bard!"

VS

Merchant – "You’re that thief, Locke, aren’t you?"
Locke – "Hey! Call me treasure hunter, or I’ll rip your lungs out!"

FIGHT!

I find the choice between these two quotes to be actually quite hard but I am going to have to go with Tellah with this one just because of a simple coin flip.

Right, thanks for getting this going again, Toastie! I’ll be voting for the Merchant and Locke.

Tellah. If it weren’t for that quote, FF4 would’ve completely sucked.

That was a bold statement.

Now, with the voting for the semi-finals finished lets see which of the quotes go on to the finals…

Tellah- 3
Merchant and Locke- 4

So it’s Merchant and Locke through and now we are having an FFVI Final. So much for an FFIV and FFVI Final. But here we go…

Locke -"Edgar, Terra can use magic, and we can’t. That’s the only
difference between us. The fact is……we could use her help!"
Terra -"Thank you, Locke! Thank you, Edgar! … … Stop swooning…!"

VS

Merchant – "You’re that thief, Locke, aren’t you?"
Locke – "Hey! Call me treasure hunter, or I’ll rip your lungs out!"

FIGHT!

I actually like the Merchant/Locke quote better than the swooning one.

Swooning, because it is one of the very few moments of the game where you see Terra’s humorus side.

Hmm, tough battle — I’m giving it to Swooning because not only is what Terra says funny, but you also have the serious element with Locke and I really like what he says.

Ok with the final battle of this edition finished here are the results.

Swooning- 6
Merchant/Locke- 4

And swooning takes out the competition.

With that being said, and by a message via PM from Smokey this thread is now just to be left alone with Smokey choosing what he wishes to do with it.
