Is it just me, or is it that everytime you see a next gen console, you really want it, you get the cash, buy it with lots of cool new games, and your sorted..

But

After a few months or so, you remember your old Super Nintedo or the mega drive in the cupboard, and memories come back of your happy days with them

you set them up once again after a year or so and you start playing, and realise, the old games ARE the best games..

Sonic 1, Super mario brothers, final fantasy IV

Opinions/Views..?

I remember when I went into hospital seven years back, I needed something to occupy myself whilst I was being operated on / recuperating / whatever.

My Mum bought me a Gameboy, and the joys of Tetris and Super Mario Land came back to me. 🙂 I still have that Gameboy: One of the old, old, old, OLD Gameboys with the green and black screen shaped like a brick.

I wish I still had the Megadrive I once owned, so I could play Shining Force 2 again. I loved that game. It was awesome. Even if I made my party stupidly hard for the last battle.

My nephew has my NES kicking around somewhere, although he has more interest in the Playstation he was given. I might steal it back and play Super Mario Bros 3 again.

So yeah, some of the oldies really are very good.

2d platformers are about 3/4 of what was released on those older systems. 2d platformers also are just as playable many many years after they are released, unlike most other types of games.

Older systems are great (oldest one for me is the NES), there are lots of great games on those systems like Metroid, Double Dragon, Final Fantasy even if it was ridiculously hard for me when I first got it.

For some reason, i love the old graphics better than these newer ones. the newere graphics are great and all, but i like that 16 bit look for some reason (Chrono Trigger, FF6,). 😉
