OK, I’ve beat FF6…like….four times now…but none of those times have I ever been able to save Cid from dieing of lung cancer (Or whatever it is that he dies of. Maybe it’s secondhand smoke…). So this time around I spent hours finding "Yummy Fish" and stuffing them down his throat. He’s not dead, but I get the feeling he’s not getting better or worse.
So, the questions are:
Have you ever saved him?
-and-
How the hell did you save him, if you did?
So yeah…personally, I don’t care about his well being, like I did the first time I played, but I would like to know how much the story changes if he’s alive.
So, yeah share your info.

I saved him.

I fed him as many yummy and good fish as I could, but didn’t put out an exceptional effort to do so. I ended up having to feed him one bad fish, but =\.

Really, though, it isn’t worth your time or effort, as saving him has no effect what-so-ever on the game.

EDIT:

*Spoiler, sort of*
If he lives, then all that happens is he gives you a raft and you go off instead of Celes attempting suicide and doing whatever happens after that (its been over 4 years since I’ve played and he died, forgive me >.>). Nothing else changes.

Celes attempting suicide is more dramatic 🙁

I fed him only yummy fishes. 21 of them. He died.

Last time I played through 6 I was feeding Cid fish for over 40 minutes and he kept getting better, then worse, then better, then worse again. I got so annoyed by it I just figured, ok Cid if you don’t have an immune system you deserve to die. Even not feeding him any fish it still took ten more minutes for him to die.

i only fed him the best and good ones and he lived, so ive never gotten to see the celes-suicide deal. i dont remember it taking so long to do, though. when you guys did it, did you play it on the snes version or the psx? would that maybe have anything to do with the outcome and/or time?

SPOILERS:::

Everytime i play through the game, i feed Cid mabey 5 yummy fish, and he is fine. So for the people who are taking more than 2 minutes to save this guy must have a bad copy of the game or something lol.

😛 this might sound stupid to you but did you have your sprint shoes on?
it’s pretty hard to get the fish real fast and bring it to cid real fast without sprint shoes on
( lemme explain : i suppose there’s some sort of timer that checks when you talk to cid and when you talk to him again( with or without a fish )the "damage" to cid is given by the time it took ou to bring him a fish.
and i suppose that the faster fish heal more then the slower fish )

I was playing the anthology version where you don’t need sprint shoes to sprint. So I don’t think that was the problem.

it’s not especially wearing sprint shoes but catching the fastest fish and bringing it back as fast as you can run.

I’ve saved him. Just catch the fast moving fish. Not that hard, IMO

It’s easy to save him as long as you keep a steady stream of fish coming in. Even if you feed him a bad one, you can usually get away with it.

Personally though, I think he’s not worth saving. The story is much better if he dies.
