Well it looks like the server with the most shriners is Sylph, so if we did want to get a shrine linkshell going that would be the server to do it on. It looks like three people are on there, Loki wants get on it, and I’m looking to make a second character, that would make five. Would anyone else be interested in this?

I got a question for those who own the PC version (and probably the PS2 version).

If I bought the PS2 version of FFXI and made an account with it, would I be able to get a copy of the PC version from a friend, install it, and return the copy and be able to play online with the account I made with the PS2?

I don’t think so, you would have to put in the registration code and I doubt it would let you.

There is a possibility though, because the game has a Guest Login option, that I have never used, and don’t really know much about.

So the PC and PS2 versions come with Reg-Keys and the whole Content ID is another different thing?

Reg Keys are to register the game. Content ID’s are pretty much characters, you have to purchase one content id per character.

All this time I’ve spent playing FFXI and I’ve yet to be put on any linkshells. People around Bastok are so stingy with them….

I have confirmed it.

If you buy the PS2 version of FFXI, you can acquire a copy of FFXI from a friend, install it to your PC and be able to play since your reg codes are linked to your account and your account is universal.

And that answers my question. 😀

It’s an absolute bitch to get Gil in Bastok, man. I can’t even afford decent armor and weapons yet, much less the linkshells or world passes.

I would go to San D’Oria and all, but the one time I went to an outpost there they charged me 100 gil to set my home point there. To hell with that shit.

Bastok isn’t that bad… just go to the Palborough mines and kill quadav’s for backplates and water crystals.

do they have any easy replayable missions in Bastok?

I’ve made a fortune off of a really easy replayable mission in Windurst. Well, not a fortune, but enough to keep me well equipped.

Try hunting NMs near Bastok. You’ll be plesently surprised about how much you recive — even if the NM never spawns.

(I’d give more info away, but this is my new money-making scheme ^^)

I just got to Cerberus and I’m not going to move again. We have been talking about putting the linkshell on Cerberus since the game came out, so you all should make a character on Cerberus pronto.

There is nothing wrong with having a linkshell on another server also though.

Yeah. Only repeatable quest that gives gil in return I know of gives a measly 500 gil, and requires a pretty sizeable party to kill the monster carrying the item. Split up between a party, that doesn’t give you shit.

I’m seriously considering deleting my character in Bastok and starting over in Windhurst. That’s where everyone on Sylph from the Shrine seems to be anyway.

Or I could just keep levelling up until I can make the trip and then pay them a visit…

Go to San d’Oria, Odin. You can kill a bats at level 1, and two bat wings = 200 gil in the replayable quest. Good for newbies.

Yes, i like San D’oria best also… mainly because Orcs drop fire crystals, and fire crystals are the most valueable of the basic crystal elements.

Another thing to do in Bastok to get gil is to go to the Zeruhn mines (I think that’s the right spelling). These are the mines, where the entrance is in the mining district in Bastok. Down there, about 1 out of 3 drops gives you Zeruhn soot. 12 pinches of Zeruhn soot can be sold at the auction house for 2000 gil. Usually takes me about an hour to get this.

Fair enough, I’m heading back next time I play.

Simply use the autoclean feature of your item list. It should stack all stackables.

Yeah, autosort. Open up your item menu and it should be near the uper right hand portion of the screen the option for auto and manual sort. Use auto to stack things, manual to unstack them.

As for a party, well I’m sorry but you can’t count on me for that lol I’m now a level 34 Paladin/17 Warrior and working on that job until level 60. But should you learn fast how to play, I’m not too worried for you.

As for a World Pass…I’m stationed in Jeuno right now so won’t look into it right away but if no one can do it I’ll make a quick stop to Bastok.

Heather, if it seems you’re not getting Cerberus, cancel your character before confirming and restart. Repeat as necessary until you hit Cerberus.

Otherwise, you’ll have to pay for an extra character, so…But it’s your choice.

Well I’m in the process of farming in Jugner Forest around Jeuno and waiting on stuff to sell at the Auction House, until they sell and I get that shiny Silver Mail (Level 36 chainmail body armor for Paladins :)) I can’t really go and get a Worldpass…I guess you’ll have to give me a day, but after that you bet I can stop in Bastok and buy you one 😉

Don’t activate it yet if you don’t want to go through the hassle of cancel/repeat-until-you-give-me-the-right-server trick. Do a friend search for me and send a PlayOnline message. First, do a search by FFXI Handle then enter the following criterias.

Yeah. I chose Windurst and Hanh helped me out quite a bit. But still having trouble figuring stuff out. I just wanna sell my stuff ;_;

People have been really nice. I ran into a WM earlier today who helped me out and gave me a spell for like 7th level. ^^

Just kinda focusing on making my attacks and cure stronger. ^^

Oh yeah, that will allow you to help her out with how to use the controller on the PS2. Actually, it controls very well. I’d dare say that the PS2 version may be less pretty visually but at least the good controller makes up for it…of course, as MogKnight did, you can buy an adaptor but still…Plus it crashes less often on PS2. I had a lot less bugs than PC players and only a few disconnects.

Well then, Heather, if you are Windurstian, I won’t get to see you often. :p As a Bastoker, I don’t go near Windurst very often. I might drop in Windurst this evening though, if Aragoneu now belongs to Bastok. We won the battle in our Expeditionary Force but the tally was still a few hours away and so I haven’t checked if Bastok now controls Aragoneu. But it does, I’m delivering supplies there, then I might make a pit stop in Windurst, head to Mhaura, then Selbina, then Bastok…but I’ll see about that when I log later this evening !

I’ve just recently purchased the game for PS2 and am in the middle of updating the playonline viewer. Note that I’m on a 56k connection, so I will MAYBE be playing by Sunday if I’m lucky. Anyway, as I havn’t started yet I was wondering about how worldpasses work and if anyone would possibly get one so I can join a few shriners on a server.

I haven’t played in a week, and won’t be anytime soon, that is, until I get my Internet up in Sherbrooke…so I’m afraid I can’t help you with the World Pass…I mean, I can’t buy one for you, although I can tell you how they work :

For a small fee that changes depending on the server`s population I’d assume, you can buy a password that has 5 uses and is valid for 7 or 10 days. So at that point the player gets a number that he or she gives to others.

Now, with that number, when you create your character, specify the name of the world you want to go ( For example, Cerberus ) and the right after you input your number.

There are two ways to check your assigned server Starmagician(or ‘world’ as they’re called in the game) – firstly, when you select your character on the main title screen, in the bottom left hand corner, it mentions your server under your character name, Job, level and current location in the game.

Secondly, after logging into the game, the first thing that will appear in your chat window will be Welcome to (server name)!. For me, it says Welcome to Midgardsormr!, but naturally, it will be different for you.
