The numbering system changed when VII came out and was known as VII throughout the globe.
FFVI was later re-released in America for the PSX, as part of the Anthology (I think…) Anyways, the only true difference between FF6(Japanese) and FF3 (American) is the name of the game. If you want to get info on the game, where better to look than the Shrine?

Enjoy.
Final fantasy III in the USA is Final fantasy VI in the UK and Japan, so if Final Fantasy III in the UK and Japan was never released released in the USA, what was final fantasy I and II in USA called?
And how come everyone thinks that the official final fantasy III in USA and Japan is final fantasy VI when its actually final fantasy III as in an independant game too final fantasy VI!!
Confused.. :whatever:
1, 4 and 6 came out in the US before the PSone ever came out with FF7. The rest never made it here (2, 3 and 5) before the PSibe.
However, they were renamed to account for the missing FF’s.
I hope that answers your question. >:
-no offence-
I guess it’s Square’s little secret. Or maybe they are clueless which game to remake along with Final Fantasy III…?
Final Fantasy III with Final Fantasy Tactics, or something like that. There’s lots missing in Europe.
Releasing CT with FFIII in Europe may cause Lavos to come out of the Earth and destroy us all!
Chrono Trigger is already on FFChronicles with FFIV in the U.S…
I know that, geez. I was talking about Europe, and it’s really absolutely irrelevant that CT was released with FFIV in America. In Europe FFIV was released with FFV, so there. Europe still lacks CT.
And I was just pointing out FFChronicles, because maybe not everyone knows about that game
I’ve played through and beaten every FF game released. This includes the NES FFI-III, the SNES IV-VI, the PSX VII-IX, and FFX-X2.
These are the mainstream FF…I still have yet to beat FFTA, but I shall soon!
Once I get some batteries.

So the only game that hasn’t been correctly re/released in the US is FFIIjp.

So all in all, everything up to this point in the number ordering of the FF series is corrected by Square. So if you are confused, I hope this faq helped.
If i made any mistakes, just correct them please.
