FINAL FANTASY X SPHERE GRID GUIDE
BY DARKCAOLEN
Youll have to develop your characters in whats known as the sphere grid
just to confuse you there is indeed two of these which you can select at the
beginning of FFX. For first time players i recommend the standard sphere
grid and more experienced players may prefer the expert. You can only
start to begin the grid after the events on the salvaged ship.
THE SCREEN
1) HELP DISPLAY
Important information about the current selected nodes.
2) SPHERE LEVEL
The S. Lvl tells you how many steps you can still take on the grid.
3) CURRENT POSITION
This shows the current node that your character is occupying.
4) CURRENT CHARACTER
*self explanatory really* but this shows which character you
have selected.
5) SELECTION
you can decide whether you wish to activate a node or to leave it.
6) MARKING CIRCLE
more the cursor i.e. if you wish to chose a new target for your
character.
*Now that should explain that after you have started to use the sphere
grid everything becomes second nature so dont worry too much about
this *
THE SPHERES
*Now this is where things may become a little more complicated and may
even lose me ok here we go*
You will need these spheres to activate the nodes *without them this
guide would be pretty useless * and unlock the relevant attributes/
abilities. Now if there is a key lock blocking your way you will need to
have a special sphere for this known as the key spheres the higher the
level the better the ability. *these are very rare so be very careful what
you use them for*
spheres can be found by either defeating fiends, talking to people, going
through chests etc. There are many different spheres that have different
effects on the grid. *Even i havent completed it yet*

the grid by presses R2 and L2 and you can zoom in with select.
4TH STEP – press X in a new window, select move your character you will see
what nodes are ready for activation. when you have chosen press x
to confirm your decision.
5TH STEP – If you are directly beside a node which has yet to be activated now
select use in the new window there another window will open showing
you what spheres are avaliable. then use which ever you wish.
6TH STEP – select a sphere and confirm with X.
7TH STEP – the node field has been activated and your character has learnt a new
ability or increased a attribute. you will see a coloured mark next to
the field either continue or press triangle to view your status. you can
use L1 and R1 to switch characters and O to return to the main menu.
COLOURS ON THE SPHERE GRID
At the start of the game the nodes are grey and when one of your characters takes
it over you will see a certain colour now see that is the colour of your character.
TIDUS – light blue
YUNA – white
WAKKA – red
AURON – dark blue
KIMAHRI – yellow
LULU – purple
RIKKU – rikku
*Save your game before you use the spheres you have collected that way if everything
goes wrong you can always reset and start all over *
NODES AND SPHERES
Youll need spheres to activate nodes as you come across them. even if theyve already
been activated by another character a table is show below for you.
Hope that helps anyone

Your guide is great! Only problem is that Rikku’s color on the SG is rikku? Whoa, I never knew that color existed. 😀
Hey, wouldn’t it be awesome that when MK and the others in charge make a FFX-2 Board, that they appoint us as moderators of it? It would be a nice reward for all of our effort we put in this FFX board.
yeah that would be very cool to be mod there if
it ever happens 🙁 as soon as i get my bearings
then i shall post some reviews for this place 🙂
Ok, let me try to explain this as best as I can.
You know how there are so many sphere nodes on the grid, right? Well, when I say "lesser" nodes, I mean the nodes that do not give you the maximum point raise to your attributes. Ex:
Would you rather have +1,+2,+3 to such stats like str. def. etc?
Or would you rather want +4?
What I did on mine, was I COMPLETELY erased every sphere grid that had +1, +2, and +3 to strength, defense, magic, magic defense, agility, evasion, and accuracy. Then, after I erased all of those "lesser" nodes, I replaced all those tons of new empty nodes, with nodes that gave me a +4 to either strength, defense, magic, magic defense, agility, evasion, and accuracy.
As you can see, by doing this, you can raise your stats a lot higher than before.
Also, I erased every +200 HP sphere, and replaced them with +300 HP.
And I erased every +10 and +20 MP, replacing them with +40 MP. Does that make any sense to you?
Let’s say you have five more empty nodes left, and you want to raise your HP. If you added five +300 HP, you would raise your HP 1,500 points. But, if you only added +200, that would raise it only 1,000. Now, to me, 500 HP is a big difference. So that is what I did.
Every node on my sphere grid is either +4, +300, or +40, thus making my stats the highest that they can possibly be!
These are the only sphere nodes that CANNOT be erased!
<B>SPECIAL ABILITIES</B>:
Use, Flee, Pray, Cheer, Aim, Focus, Reflex, Luck, Jinx, Lancet, Guard, Sentinel, Spare Change, Steal, Threaten, Provoke, Entrust, Copycat, Doublecast, and Bribe.
<B>SKILL ABILITIES</B>:
Dark Attack, Dark Buster, Silence Attack, Silence Buster, Sleep Attack, Sleep Buster, Delay Attack, Delay Buster, Zombie Attack, Triple Foul, Power Break, Magic Break, Mental Break, Armor Break, Mug, and Quick Hit.
<B>WHITE MAGIC</B>:
Cure, Cura, Curaga, Esuna, Scan, NulBlaze, NulShock, NulTide, NulFrost, Life, Full-Life, Haste, Hastega, Slow, Slowga, Shell, Protect, Reflect, Dispel, Regen, Holy, and Auto-Life.
<B>BLACK MAGIC</B>:
Fire, Fira, Firaga, Thunder, Thundara, Thundaga, Water, Watera, Waterga, Blizzard, Blizzara, Blizzaga, Bio, Demi, Death, Drain, Osmose, Flare, and Ultima.
All of these nodes on the Sphere Grid <I>CANNOT</I> be erased. However, every other single one can.
EDIT: You get HP Spheres from defeating Ironclad. MP Spheres from defeating Vidatu. And, you get +4 spheres from these enemies:
Fenrir will give you Agility Spheres.
Pteryx gives you Evasion Spheres.
Hornet will give you Accuracy Spheres.
You receive Magic Defense Spheres from One-Eye.
Magic Spheres come from Jumbo Flan.
Tanket will give you Defense Spheres.
You can earn Strength Spheres from Juggernaut.
Harder to earn, Fortune Spheres come from Earth Eater.
Luck Spheres are also hard to earn, coming from Greater Sphere.
At 255 luck, almost every hit will be critical.
You can miss a few bosses even if you have 255 accuracy.

You won’t be able to hit Penance without Luck above 120. Dark Mindy evades attacks even with 255 Accuracy and luck.
Constant criticals are good if you don’t use you’re celestial weapons and for your Aeons. Aeons won’t do 99,999 damage on enemies with high defense.
If Tidus, Kimahri, Wakka and Rikku are using their celestial weapons, it’s better when they have low HP.
Luck increases Evasion and Accuracy beyond their 255 limit. But as I said, its only useful if you fight the Dark Aeons and Penance.
Having high luck is really only useful if you fight the Dark Aeons and Penance.

zanmato for sisters (their delta fried me – what else could i do?)
and i must have done the luck and not remembered about it hehe =)
Mindy’s Passado is extremely weak and won’t do 99,999 even with 255 strength on an enemy with low defense. You need high luck for constant 99,999 and even then, only for enemies with weak defense.

Well, I’m not sure if that is true for the International Version or not. But with the U.S. version, Passado can be the strongest attack in the game, and Mindy’s attack doesn’t even have to reach 255 for it to deal that much damage.

I meant that it won’t do 99,999 each hit.
If mindy has 255 strength, each hit will do roughly 70,000 on enemies with low defense.
If mindy has 255 strength, each hit will do roughly 70,000 on enemies with low defense.
If enemies have lower defense, then more damage will be incured. So, why would she not deal 99,999 damage to an enemy with low defense? That makes no sense.
Mindy always did 99,999 damage each hit with Passado. Except on an enemy such as Iron Clad, which was really strong defense.

Passado only has 1/8 of regular attack power.
To be honest now, I’m not too sure. But I do seem to remember Mindy using Passado on a Killer Bee (defense = 1) and it only doing around 66,000 – 69,000 per hit. With high luck, it went to 99,999 due to critical hits.
I might test this again on both versions, haven’t played for over a year :/

that’s what I did as well.

yeah ythats true…i have ffx2 and ithink it wasnt as good…no more tidus.
i LOVE ffx’s leveling up system tho, the shere grid rules me.
X-2’s leveling up, well it’s not the sphere grid, but it’s still unique. i like it
Not for the final battles you don’t. In fact you don’t need to actually fully max your stats for anything. But it certainly does help against the monster arena creations and dark aeons.
u ever notice in the begining of the game how u rarly hit critical hits, than toward the end u hit them more often.
the more luck u have the more lucky u will be at hitting critical hits. god its not that hard to figure out
It does increase accuracy and evasion. Quite a bit actually. If you have 255 Luck and Accuracy, then not even Darkness will stop you from critically hitting Dark Mindy (Eva 240, Luck 130) 100% of the time. You actually have a 125% chance of criticals against Dark Mindy, though you only need 230 Luck for 100%.
If the difference between your luck and the enemies luck is more than 100, then you will always 100% do critical hits (in theory). I haven’t personally tested this, but with 255 Luck, I never had anything but critical hits, not matter what enemy I faced.
beginning of FFX. For first time players i recommend the standard sphere
grid and more experienced players may prefer the expert.I must be really stupid, cuz i didn’t catch that. How do i select the more experienced sphere grid?
If you have the PAL or International version, you can select it at the beginning of the game. The Expert Grid is for more experienced players.
As you can see, by doing this, you can raise your stats a lot higher than before.
Also, I erased every +200 HP sphere, and replaced them with +300 HP.

I max out almost everything at the end, beside HP and luck. I delete the weak fields (luck +1, def + 1, etc.) and replace them with +4 spheres or with a few +300 HP spheres.
I don’t really erase that much though, I fill out the empty fields at first. It is the right way how Smokey discribed it, but I’m a bit too lazy for that. 😉
My characters are always on low luck (around 20), which means, I can never really hit the Black Aeons with my normal weapon etc. Some battles were rough….
Tidus does make a apperance in x-2 the only problem is that it is only once durring the final FMV and ONLY if you have ALLof the crimson spheres. That’s the good ending, you get the bad ending if you don’t have te crimson spheres. but it is worth the time to see it, beleve me. the other ending is just crap.
The only ways to get Dark Matter are to unlock Ultima Buster (99, one time only), play Blitzball and win first prize (if it is the prize, you only get one) or get it as rare drop from arena creations.
