Maybe the CD has a scratch or some dust, something like that on it, or maybe the lense on the PS2 has dust on it, I have had problems with that before.

IN NO MEANS TOUCH THE LENSE…

unless you wanna mess your PS2 up. The only thing I could think is the game isn’t meant for the region of your PS2, eg. US game for Jap PS2 etc etc.

If that fails, take the game back and get a refund.

if there are no scratches, it’s probably the regio or something. You know, PAL and NTSC, that sort of stuff. I’m far from an expert, but you might wanna check if those games are EXACTLY the same…

BTW why would someone buy the same game twice?

The early PS2 models tend to have problems reading CD based games. This includes PS2 CDs (Blue Backing) and PSX CDs (Black (even though it’s very dark blue) backing)

If your PSX cds don’t work and they are brand new. Try putting the PS2 in it’s vertical position and have it read the disc from that point. If it does not read it at that point, there are two things you can do.

1. Try other discs and see if they work, if they don’t work as well as they should, send your PS2 to the shop. If they work, get another disc or refer to number 2.

2. Get 2 strips of masking tape and stick them about 1/2 inch from the center of the disc parallel to each other

So it would look kinda like…

in the center of the disc.

To explain this, CDs are somewhat lighter than DVD discs. In fact, it’s mostly meant to read DVD discs rather than CD discs. The CD jumps in the tray because it’s lighter and causes the disc to not load correctly. The tapes will weigh down the CD a bit and hopefully will load the disc.

I hope that helped you a bit.
