Speaking about consoles here and their capabilities and certain needs to get the console online and make games all evolve around the onlineness and such.

Are consoles meant to go online, or is that just a Pc thing in your opinion and does it hold the future? Or is it just some random gimmick which is fun, but not the new guideline of console gameplay.
(And what do you hope that happens?)

Imho online gameplay on console doesn’t have a big future. It’s fun and it’s all good, but it should remain a gimmick instead of the whole new age console gameplay thing.
Online gameplay is something for the Pc and it’s so much more fun as well as organized on the Pc then for the consoles.
(Just look at ps2’s FFXI Online in Japan)

In my opinion i think it is the future and they are headed the right direction with it. Not everyone wants to get a brand new computer to play the latest online games. I think they should expand and grow on what their doing now.

I think online gaming will be amazin on the ps2, i think the fact that you must have broadband to have it, that will hold many ppl back from buying into it and also it seems quite complicated to set up:S Also I think the idea of ‘jus switch ur ps2 on n have a quik bash bout’ cant b replaced, and all the requirements to play online for consoles may be too expensive for some people espcially i nthe case of FF11 where its like 7 a month along with all the ps2 hardware needed:S Once ps2 online launches i will wait a while to see what other people say…then most likely buy it

I still have yet to play any online games 😛 I’m just not big on computer games.

BUT, my friend did ask me to sign up for RO and play it with him, so I did, but now I can’t get the thing to dowload.

With Dial Up slowly dying, Broadband is going to take over everything so online gaming won’t be such a lag after all. Though I wish everything won’t end up like Phantasy Star Online with their many glitches.

It would probably be suicide for a company to release more than one online game at once, right?
I dont think "online" is the future of all video games. There are certain genres that just are not made to be played with many other people.
Some games focus on a storyline, and I do hope this will also be the case in the future.
You cannot possibly imagine played FFVI online as a MMORPG and somebody killing Kefka before you ever caught a glimpse of him?

I remember a certain time ago when FFXI had been announced to be online, and Square said theyd release Chrono Break for PS2. Amazing how many people reacted: The PS2 can go online. Chrono Break will be for PS2. Conclusion: Chrono Break will be online.
But that would not make sense, because a game that focuses on story and characters does not have to be online. Should not be online.
