Treno Auction

Has anyone recieved all the rare items from the Auction at Treno? IU have gottan all except one, and I can’t seem to ever get it. I was wondering if you had to sell off all the ones you had first and then get the item and find the person who would buy it. I am a little confused with this side quest and was hoping for someone to tell me what happens…

how come you can’t get dark matter? i can’t seem to be able to get it!

hmmm i dont know what to tell ya, dark matter was the first thing I got. I think you need to just go at it and try harder.

well yeah I had gotten it too, like I said, but it’s just that there is always one that doesn’t show, so I can’t buy it.

Maybe it has something to do with the number of the DISC…

I think i got dark matter in cd 2,but i’m not sure…………..maybe it was 3…

I read somewhere that to get Dark Matter (I think it was dark matter) or to get all te items from the treno auction, you have to sell everything you buy first, go back to the auction and buy that other thing that you couldn’t get. I tried it but I didn’t have a clue how to see all the other things I bought. I talked to everyone in Treno I could find but no luck.

I had a feeling that you had to sell off all the items that you get first, but, could anyone really tell me the nobles you need to sell them to? I know the basic ones and the other few, but like I said, there is always one who never shows or I cannot ever find to sell the last item to…

To get all the rare FF items (Mini-Cid, Doga’s Artifact, Unne’s Mirror, Griffin’s Heart, and the Rat Tail), the best time is late in disc 3, before heading to Terra. After getting all those items (I’m unsure if not getting Dark Matter affects this), find the various Nobles scattered around Treno who are after them, and sell it to them (Here’s a hint, refuse their first offer for the item. It doubles the money recieved, almost getting back what you paid for it in hte first place on the auction).

Once you’ve sold the items to those Nobles, head back to the Auction, and you’ll find that those greedy Nobles have gone and re-sold them back to the auctioneer, and are once again offered for sale, along with a new item that was previously un-available, the Magical Fingertip. Buy this, (you can also bid on the other items again if you want, but they serve no real purpose anymore other than to boost your treasure hunting rank), then fly to Daguerreo and give it to the old man near the inn for an awesome weapon (I won’t spoil it for you, it’ll ruin the surprise.)

P.S. I find the best way to bid at the Auction, is to head down to the very front of the audience, and press the X button to bring up the ‘place bid’ text box, but, I don’t place any bids yet. Instead, I let the stupid nobles bid back and forth on the item, waiting until the auctioneer says something like "I hear 2000 Gil", then says "2000Gil. Any more?". This is a warning that the item is about to be sold. When he says that, I just place 1Gil more onto the previous bid, and I ALWAYS win the item, and often at a minimum price too! Just remember to take along lots of Gil (around 50000, just to be on the safe side), as those Trenorese are big spenders.

Inceidently, I’m not sure if anyone realises this, but a number of the items for sale in the Treno Auction are actually references to the earlier FF games – Unne from FFI and FFIII, Doga from FFIII, the Rat Tail from FFI and IV etc. Yet another tip-of-the-hat to the previous FF games in FFIX.

<font color=red face="comic sans ms">You should be able to get the Doga’s Artifact, Griffin’s Heart and Une’s Mirror at any time. I think the Mini-Cid is only available the first time you go to Treno, so it’s best to get it then; all that happens is that it adds another key item to your menu to slightly increase your treasure hunter rank. 😉

The Dark Matter isn’t available until disc 3. The availability of it doesn’t depend on anything else, it will just appear there on its own. Same with the Rat Tail, that’s only there on disc 3.

You can buy these items from the auction again after that, but you can’t sell them back to the nobles. However, if you buy two of the particular items (I think it’s the Une’s Mirror and Griffin’s Heart, but it could be something else…). Then go back to the Black Mage Village on disc 4, and into the hut where the chocobo is. You hear some music from an earlier FF game (FF3j, I think…)
